4eyes2wheels 0 Posted June 27, 2011 (edited) For that money you would want it to be MINT and have had a few bits done. I bought a VR6 with about 70k miles on the clock and have spent PLENTY on it. If it's had chains/guides done, has decent history and has had some other component upgrades then it might be worth it. Miles are low for the year but it'll still need plenty of bits replaced if they haven't already been done. Suspension of probably a bit tired by now etc. Doesn't mention leather either which suggests it hasn't got it. I suspect you can get better value by buying from someone on here - have a look in the for sale section - you'll find a Storm on here for similar cash, a VR6 with similar miles but with a Schrick manifold. Portent 0 Posted June 27, 2011 This subject comes up occasionally. You should keep in mind that TCS is just a car selling business like any other. They don't particularly have any affection for Corrado's other than the fact they can make money out of them. And the warranty for a car from a small dealer is pretty useless in my view anyway. So given a choice of buying a car from a dealer, or buying a car from the owner that you can quiz and get a feel for the care and attention (or not) placed on the car then which would you prefer? I'd prefer the latter. In fact my preference when looking was to try to find a forum member selling a car so that I could look into the history of it beforehand. If they have the right car at the right money and condition then there's no point in discounting it as a potential purchase. But I'd equally say there is no point in specifically buying an older 'classic' from a dealer. I can't see that particular advert because it's on ebay and I'm at work. But the impression I get is that these small dealers tend to get the cars that owners can't sell (or in some small cases have been part exchanged - but I'd guess that happens less frequently with cars such as Corrado's). Also... the next question is whether you should buy a slightly higher mileage car that has had work done on it, or a low mileage example that hasn't. Hoses and bushes still perish with age regardless of mileage, and common faults such as heater matrix, sunroof, etc, are yet to break on a low mileage car (and they most certainly will break at some point). davidwort 0 Posted June 27, 2011 Like the others have said, history (not just rubber stamp service history) is most important on these cars, together with a good inspection of the body. In theory, buying a car for 4 grand from a dealer gives you some comeback (as opposed to a sub £1000 trade in) but in practice the hassle may not be worth it if a problem arises, small claims court etc... I'd always advise someone who has no real mechanical clue to ask the seller if you can take it for an MOT at your cost, or have an MOT carried out at a place you mutually agree on, for 50 quid you'll get a thorough check of the oily bits and then it's up to you to thoroughly check the trim and body for damage and minor corrosion. ridlymaca 0 Posted June 27, 2011 The question about TCS comes up now and again I will always advise people to stay well clear of the guy speaking from previous experience. I went to view a 16v a couple of years ago after speaking to him on the phone (he sounded put out that he had to spend time talking to me) I should have given up on him then but I went to view it anyway. He gave me a postcode which I thought was where he traded from so I went to meet him there, it turned out to be his parents house and the car was on the drive already hot even though he said it wouldn't be. he told me the car was in good condition with no noticeable faults, well there was already a pool of oil forming under it, the front wing had been replaced and sprayed badly when I pointed this out he said he hadn't noticed this, sunroof didn't work, windscreen wipers didn't work! At this point there was no way I was buying this car but I took it for a test drive which is when it became apparent that it was pulling dangerously to the left to the point I couldn't keep it in a straight line, he said it was probably the tracking slightly out! It was more likely the accident the car had been part of at some time in the past. I preceded to ask about service history and surprise surprise there was a gap of 50000 miles in the history when he said it was FSH. He told me over the phone it had a recent service but it transpired that this was carried out by him if anything had been done at all. When I told him I wasn't interested he started having a go at me saying he is sick of time wasters. So what I'm saying is he is rude, he lied, he has had a few different eBay accounts (probably due to bad feedback) and he is certainly not a Corrado specialist.
