Sweet_Audio 10 Posted August 15, 2012 Hi, I'm new here...and to Corrado's. Due to pick up my 2.0 8V 1994 on Saturday from York. I literally cant wait. Having seen a few of the threads on here I must admit I'm a little worried that I might have a job on my hands though :S I imagine I will be spending plenty of time on here (when im meant to be working lol) asking for advice so would welcome any pointers for Corrado NOOBS! nrc 0 Posted August 16, 2012 Welcome! Always nice to see someone getting excited about a Corrado ;) Most of my family lives in Leicestershire so I'm down that way from time to time. While you're up this way how about stopping by north Leeds on your way back from York for the VW Festival at Harewood House so you can show off your motor? bmwcompact 10 Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) I noticed there was a red 8v for sale in York (was it on Ebay or the forum?). It sounded OK and I thought the guys going to Harewood would all be going to check it out if it was still for sale. Looks like you got there first. Hope it turns out a good one and you have a good journey home. Just found your other post about exhaust systems. I bought my 16v back in Feb after looking for an 8v. I had a Golf 2 GTI for 10yrs and was always happy with the performance, low down grunt and economy (37/38mpg regularly). Ive talked to a couple of people with an 8v as their daily and they say the same. Have fun!! Edited August 16, 2012 by bmwcompact
Sweet_Audio 10 Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the replies. I'd love to stop by at Harewood but Im not over in York til around 6pm, not sure I will have time to get there. I will definitely be attending a show before the season is out though :) I work in Loughborough Parkervr6 so will give you a shout if any issues, everyone on here seems to be really helpful and friendly. The car i've bought is here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280937663728?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 If anyone has a chance, would you mind casting a quick eye of expretise on it to see if you can spot any obvious issues? I've already agreed to buy it but would be good if I had a heads up. Cheers Folks! ---------- Post added at 12:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:54 AM ---------- Edited August 16, 2012 by Sweet_Audio

Sweet_Audio 10 Posted August 16, 2012 Which is yours ridlymaca? May have seen it around, I'm in Enderby myself. I'll look out for you, very rarely see corrados on the streets of Leicester!
ridlymaca 0 Posted August 16, 2012 I currently have a grey G60, just fixed the link the members gallery. Sometimes play 9 holes at enderby golf course(badly). I started off with an 8v but soon moved onto the G60, 8v was much better on fuel though! Just noticed tonight that my old 8v is on ebay. James. 9 Posted August 16, 2012 Honest and clean looking car. To be fair it looks pretty good from here. BUT... Check that ALL the electrics work. Expensive and/or obsolete parts are beginning to be the main bug bear of Corrado ownership for some. That aside, 8valves benefit from having mechanical parts borrowed from other cars within the VW family and as such are very reasonable to run. Trim is the main wallet busting concern. But as many are being broken for parts, getting the odd bit shouldn't cause too much concern. All I could spot was: Missing fuse cover undertray. Tow eye hook cover missing. Front wiper bolt covers missing. Is that a crack on the front bumper where it's been filled in ? Hope it goes well and let us know how you get on. Hi James, Thanks for taking the time to have a look at this for me. I plan to spend a bit of time there checking every electrical part possible, i've even created a tick sheet lol. I noticed the fuse cover tray was missing, could be a b!tch to fit if its smashed or broken i guess. The wiper bolt covers and tow eye hook cover I hadnt spotted, so thanks for the heads up, I magine these will be easy enough to get hold of, and hopefully cheap. The crack im not sure about, its hard to tell from the picture, I will be there tomorrow around 5pm to see the car so fingers crossed all is OK. Will post my findings and some pics on Sunday. Cheers everyone for your input! :smug:

James. 9 Posted August 17, 2012 Only too glad to help another 8valver. Missing fuse undertray could point to recent electric work, so check the fuse board and for signs of a bodged alarm. Popular misconception that tow eye covers will be cheap. They went obsolete a couple of years back and are surprisingly difficult to obtain. Most breakers will only sell the complete lower grill or the complete bumper. Either way £20+. To do it properly it's a bumper off job. Personally, I'd wait for a red breaker to pop up ( you live centrally so that's not too bad ) and buy a second hand complete bumper and spoiler in good order. Tick list is always a good idea. The only other items to add are: mayo in engine and make sure the fans cut in when up to temp. Apart from that, sounds like you've got it all covered. Sweet_Audio 10 Posted August 19, 2012 OK, so picked up the Rado yesterday. No problems at all on the 2hr drive home to Leicester, all looks good. She's in better shape than I thought! Only issues are - -Intermittent flat-spot when flooring it in 1st / 2nd gear (only happens sometimes, thinking maybe spark plugs?) -Missing Bottom-Dash / Fuse Cover (the fixings are intact, so if I can locate one, it should be an easy fit....any ideas where guys?) -The guy who had it last took out the CD player and all of the output leads going down to the junction box next to the clutch pedal so I have to find a set of leads and work out how to fit them (really annoying!!) not sure where to get these or how much they will be. Good points - All the electrics work as stated in the ad, engine seems in decent shape, all service history going back to day one and the inside has been very well kept. All in all, very pleased so far. Will get some pics up this week!
