Aqvila 0 Posted June 16, 2014 Right looks like I'm having Microsoft issues, uploaded the pics thru onedrive and it's not straightforward. Will update later, ooo the suspense...
Aqvila 0 Posted June 16, 2014 In the meantime, I have a few corrado related updates; When I bought the car last year it was having some problems with the electronic throttle ie you would be driveing along quite happily and then you would get no throttle input whatsoever, the previous owner had it diagnosed by a vag performance specialist as a faulty peddle and had it replaced but this didn't cure the problem. So taking it into my hands I thought I'd have a go at fixing this. Had a look at all the wiring there were a couple of things that needed tidying and moving, loosened up some of the wires, just incase there was a faulty one. Put it all back together. And I thought I cured it no cutouts over winter at all. Summer arrives and on the first outing to a festival, it dies and im pulling up to a roundabout, the only way to reset the peddle is to switch off the ignition and back on again and the throttle works again, is a little embarrassing. So I'd had enough of this so took it to a very good auto electrician who diagnosed it as the ecu relay which due to its close proximity to the exhaust mani was overheating and cutting out, solution - beefier relay and relocate = no cutouts and smiles all round! Roger Chatfield 0 Posted June 16, 2014 Awesome, glad you got it sorted, car looked spot on the M5 back from Volksfest. Rog.
Aqvila 0 Posted September 13, 2014 So my thinking that the problem was solved was wrong so it's back to the garage to get looked at again, anybody on here know anything about this?
clumpy1 11 Posted September 13, 2014 Kev's your man. I've got an R32 in mine however I am running DTA aftermarket management and although I haven't done alot of mile's in it I have never suffered what you are describing I'm not totally versed on the subject so wouldn't like to say. Hope you get it sorted :thumbleft:
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted September 13, 2014 Was the replacement pedal new?
Aqvila 0 Posted September 13, 2014 Yeah that is what I was informed was replaced by a specialist vw garage but I have no proof it was new would it be possible two pedals could go fubar
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted September 13, 2014 Nothing is impossible mate. If a reset cures it, then I'd be tempted to look at component failure over wiring failure. I've heard more stories of floor mounted fail compared to the hanging type. Which one do you have?
Aqvila 0 Posted September 13, 2014 Interesting theory. I have a floor mounted jobby. There is a certain amount of cutting to get the pedal to fit the floor do you reckon it could be down to the vibration from cutting it up to get it to fit?
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted September 13, 2014 No, I think it's just that the internals of some of the floor mounted pedals just isn't up to scratch. Maybe the vibrations from being on the floor aren't helping but the hanging type pedals aren't exactly immune to vibrations in their mounting method. Aqvila 0 Posted September 13, 2014 Thanks bud, now I just need someone with a working pedal to do a swap with, this could be tricky :-?
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted September 13, 2014 I bet! Not sure how much pedals are these days? If you are concerned about the vibrations, look into mounting the pedal on some rubber to help insulate it from bumps.
Aqvila 0 Posted November 4, 2014 (edited) Reposted with photos this time! Think its about time for an update :) so over last winter decided to build a little home for the Rado. Started out with this: To this Had a break for a while and picked myself a second project: 1.9td 91k, got it for a daily driver not exactly refined but is hugely practical. Back to shed building: Garage now has a door That's pretty much where I am with that at the moment. Car is still at the garage but we have now narrowed it down to an intermittent wiring fault or relay issue specifically on the injector side of things, hopefully have her back soon has been a right saga! easypops 8 Posted November 4, 2014 Nice door, where did you get it from? :)
Aqvila 0 Posted November 4, 2014 Nice door, where did you get it from? :) garagedoorsonline.co.uk not cheap though but as I saved a lot of money by building the garage myself thought I'd splash out on something nice.
clumpy1 11 Posted November 4, 2014 Very good sized Garage you have there now. I saw your car at Stanford Hall when the previous owner had it.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 5, 2014 Only just noticed this. I miss that rear end shot. There's just something about Ice Grey :) Sorry to read of your throttle woes. I never had any of those problems. I kind of wish I had left it with the DTA standalone as it was faultless, but I was persuaded to go standard management. Plus selling a car with a standalone to a complete newbie would have been a nightmare, so stock management was the way to go. The 6 wires that form the pedal loom, are they chaffing on anything? I seem to remember there wasn't an abundance of room to run that without it snagging on the clutch and brake pedals etc. Sounds to me like a signal is being shorted in the pedal or throttle loom. Do you have VCDS to interrogate the ECU? If you see anything related to throttle or pedal, it's probably loom related. If you see anything related to Power supply, it's probably relay related as your chap suggested. Vince at Stealth racing did the loom for me, so he might be a good person to diagnose it, but it's a hell of a trek from where you are!
Aqvila 0 Posted February 21, 2015 Wow time flies! Have some updates for you: -The big one is that the throttle has been fixed woooo! Turns out it was just a misbehaving connector Kev! So 6 months to diagnose a faulty connector not bad going but at least it didn't cost me an arm and a leg, electrician only charged me an hours labour! -Car has mostly been in hibernation but managed to get round to sorting out a snapped bonnet release cable today TOP TIP - if yours snaps or want a spare then get yourself a cable from an Audi 100, much cheaper than finding a Corrado one! The only difference is the cable and sheath are slightly longer than the Corrado but you can reuse the old sheath and cut the cable. Got some stainless steel horns to go on there too, here they are: Mmm Horny
Hairyarse 10 Posted February 22, 2015 Lol Top tip on the cable ;)
