If you look back at my VRT thread the front numberplate section was cut away. I then ordered a reflective stick on numberplate that came on a thin plastic backing. I then cut out the lettering (where possible)with a Stanley knife.

There is a close up showing the holes in the bumper and the mesh where the fogs would go. I had no issues with cooling, even on a spirited drive round Castle Coombe. The had even put spacers on the bonnet mounts so it sat up a little allowing air to flow through.

The fogs look pretty good with the mesh, I may have a go at that. I'm not such a fan of the number plate standing off but can see how it would work, I don't want to draw attention to it.

I'm thinking of maybe a mix of cut out in the number plate recess with the plate re-attached flush but with the lettering cut out

So the 9a is out and I'm giving the engine bay a good clean up.

I've provisionally sold the engine minus the manifolds and gearbox which are up for sale.

I thought I'd stray from the normal Forge upgrade and go for a GFB recirc valve after seeing the quality of the one I fitted to my tfsi A4

 

 

 

Little nitro RC car air filter on the line that used to go to the carbon filter

 

 

 

Trackslag 3" downpipe dry fitted to the turbo and looking at clearance between the steering rack and firewall

More progress. I've been after a carbon bonnet for years but really haven't had the money for one and then I learnt recently that LWS Design who produced them has folded. Luckily one came up on eBay which I bought immediately. It's also full carbon and has never been fitted

 

Got it home in my wagon

I had the boys in the stainless department at work sort me out with a 3" MAF housing to go with the Badger5 TIP

 

 

 

 

And a Trackslag charge pipe to keep the 2 1/2" pipe work throughout

So the engine was put in on Monday. I've just realised that it is now Friday and I have spent all week in the garage! Getting close to finishing though, just have to plug in the wiring and sort the coolant plumbing

Nice one. Must be good to see it in the car after all this time. Got my engine out on Sunday but have also been working on striping the car all week so know how you feel.

I hate wiring! Have finished all but a couple of connections to the fuse box so it should run in theory very soon as long as I haven't ballsed it up. My loom has different connectors for the knock sensors I have but the loom does fit the connectors to the 9a knock sensors that I took out. Does anyone know of any reason I shouldn't use 9a sensors on an AGU loom and ecu?

Thanks. It's all starting to take shape but the more i do, the more i realise needs doing. Like the screen wash bottle needs relocating, this will probably end up in the boot

The engine is running. I had a few issues that held me up but have swapped out the crank position sensor this morning and it fired right up. There's still a lot of tidying up of cables and other things to do but I've run it up to temperature and once I've changed the oil, I'll start driving it

Now for the hard bit. Staying under 2k revs for 1000 miles. I have been practicing in my daily for when my re build is done. I don't stand a chance in hell lol. Glad all is going well.

Nice conversion....brings back memory's :)

 

I would source a new washer bottle and place under front inner wing, where the carbon canister is, as thats prob dead anyway, plus washer bottles always look kind of naff in the boot.

Thanks for the comments. I've already changed the oil and then stuck about 50 miles in it so far. Turbo noises are very addictive and even running on actuator pressure and trying to stay off boost, it feels fast. Lots of heads have been turning when driving by. Can't wait to have this run in and then mapped up.
