4 cylinder subframes

Recommended Posts

Think i may need a 4 cylinder subframe if anyone has one for sale in and around the Midlands- please note a VR one does not fit and mk2 is different . May be interested in a rear beam to. Must have no real nasty erosion so its beyond refurbishment.

Thanks Geri - thst could be an option but a sheer pain to yourself  posting something of that size - will see what comes through - I’m not sure how bad the rear beam is but I’ve got to  go to jabba to collect parts  for  powder coating,  but been told front subframe to far gone . Fir PG Chassis from M has a specific part number different to other rear beams - don’t ask my why .

Strange that as i would have thought all rear beams would be the same for all 4 cylinders

all rear beams eventually look like they have been siting at the bottom of the sea but they are a serious chunk of steel and should clean up ok

No problem with the front subframe

Do the abs sensors pass through the axle into the stub?

if so there will be a clearance hole in the axle?

They don't pass through. There are plastic guides that clip onto studs on the axle. The presence of the studs is the only thing that may differ on ABS/non ABS axles.

Looking at the rear bush its quite straight forward - all the same bush through production for 4 cylinder and all the same for VR - so its not the rear bushes hole size that changes on the PG later beam - all a bit odd- who knows what the change may be . but you can see the kr changes at the same chassis number to - introduction of abs and the stubs which could be substituted with a cable tie for cable  .

The rear stub axles are different as they have holes for the ABS sensors.

You can just about make out the plastic guides that the sensors go through. The studs for the brake pipe clips hold them in place and there are additional ones that you can't see that also hold them.

Good info mate- looks clean your car.

So I wonder why a PG is a different part number then the other 4 cylinders

If it helps, I’ve got a mk2 rear beam on mine, yes I’m abs, had no problems fitting it

Thanks you can actually buy new rep ones of them - Im hoping as Geri says will just be surface rust.

It's not an ABS related change as you could specify ABS as a build option on any of the earlier cars - you also need to consider other markets as ABS was more common on the German market cars.  The stub axles are ABS/non-ABS specific as already mentioned due to the mounting holes.

As its end suffix letters it'll probably be tied to manufacturing cost reductions instead of any real changes in construction or fitting.

Not sure why the last couple of model years of production for the G60 had a different rear beam part number, especially as the KR and PG shared the same rear beam for the first couple of years.
