Don't put an amp there mate, asking for trouble, it will get hot etc. An amp doesn't exactly take up a great deal of bootspace. Some people fit them under the front seats which would be marginally better than the rear seats as there is a slight airgap.
-
Does sound like you've upset something else to me, double check it all for air leaks etc. Cleaning one shouldn't destroy it.

I have constant click although its quite quiet when its warmSounds rough when cold but it starts first time, no blue smoke.
Hardly uses any oil really, an occasional top up
Coolant system has no leaks but im losing it into the block maybe due to mayo on the oil filler cap. The sump gasket/rocker gasket or somewhere else is leaking and leaving a stain on my drive. I reckon i get about 20mpg, though a lot of town driving and short runs.
What determines the need for a top end versus a bottom end/complete rebuild
The engine drives ok, just feels a little tired, friends have mentioned valve seats, oil seals, piston rings etc, can these be done on a top end rebuild?
cheers
The economy is probably not that far off the mark for a lot of town driving and short runs, you only really get into the thirties on a good (>10 mile) run. If you're not using oil and not getting smokey then the bottom end is probably ok. A top end overhall can really bring the VR back to life, however you may not even need that. You can lose water in the oil cooler, this would give you mayo, (also another symptom of short runs btw). Whats the general servicing state, hows the plugs, leads, oil, air filter etc, have you done a fault code scan.

If you're talking head rebuild, clutch and chains its about a grand for the relevant new bits,(VW) then obviously whatever labour costs you might incur with your mechanic friend. If you mean bottom end work as well then your looking at a fair bit more money.

Personally I'd just use the FK Nut (Not bolt! :) ) Not worth chewing the thread on your nice new struts.

i wasnt aware the isv would be affected by the fuel . . . fingers crossed though!!It won't be.
Better fuel might help your problem but for different reasons, especially if the car's been sat arround for ages with old fuel in it. It's just about having a stronger idle in general, never the VRs greatest strength. Make sure all of your ignition is in good order ie plugs and leads, make sure there are no air leaks in the pipework around the intake/throttlebody. Give the isv a clean, it does work wonders, I do mine every few months and it always idles better afterwards, only a 10 min job.

Thanks for that mate, always nice when someone reviews something. I've been pondering one for a while now, you might have just made my mind up, I'm too tight for a full blown remap!

Valve timing, its so important and so easy to get wrong.
-
I'd be checking engine mounts and giving the whole exhaust system the once over.

Mine has the cold air feed going down into the front 0/S wheel arch. I've removed the Carbon Cannister and associated plumbing and it pokes down nicely through the hole thats left. Works well but definately sounds more muted than a bare one. The thing with rolling road tests is that the bonnet is usually up and a great big fan running, you don't get the same amount of heat sucked in as you would with the bonnet down. My old ramair used to really suffer with the heat being drawn in, felt real sluggish when hot.

Not in todays market, 2.5 to 3k I reckon. Not that I like todays market much you understand! :-(
-
Mine's always more carboned up on 1 and 6 but the engine still runs spot on. In my experience VR6s eat plugs, my advice would be if you don't notice any running problems don't lose any sleep over the 1 and 6 running hot debate.

Just bought one, defo the best practical car mag out there.

^^Yeah thats what he means.

Yes I recall the thread/s, I hate the Corrado mirrors with a passion. There's been a lot of talk but as far as I know, no one had found an alternative. I believe concave and convex was the only option (dealer). One of these is bound to be better than the other. The day someone finds an alternative I'll buy them, no matter how much they cost, the standard ones are nothing short of dangerous. HTH

Personally I'd be livid if someone did that to me. Either its for sale or it isn't, its not like he was offering less than you were asking. I've done a lot of buying and selling over the years and had an awful lot of timewaster buyers and that can be really annoying, the concept of a timewasting seller is a new one on me! You should keep it if you're that attached to it. Just my humble opinion chap.

I've squeezed over 65 litres in my 94 VR6 many times. I do anything up to 70 miles (my commute round trip) once it hits the red. I go a bit lighter on the loud pedal in those circumstances mind.

I put £92 worth of fuel in my Corrado last week, its criminal. Mainly driving to work and back, its way more than usual. I've just come back from the states where it was costing £12 to fill a car up. Whoever voted for Labour last time, I hope they're happy now.

Sometimes, with cheap bearings, they will drone but not show any other fault. ie no play or roughness. I had this several times with GSF bearings before I realised they're just junk.
-
Yep dead right. I was never overwhelmed by them on Top Gear etc, however having seen one up close I was seriously impressed. They are incredible cars, the finish was way above what I was expecting. The switchgear, all the carbon fibre, exhausts etc, its all so bespoke and purposeful. Its a lot of money but you really can see where its been spent on a Zonda.

I bought some black sticky felt in a sheet from John Lewis. I've cut it down to @1 inch strips and its pretty good.

Very nice, I particularly like the calipers.

I'll second that, I replaced rear bearings twice in a year with GSF parts, the bearing races were pitted to b*ggery. VW all the way now.
