  1. I think you me and Kev need to invest in one of these! Your dad got room in his workshop? Great work by the way Kip, loving these threads....
  2. You need good quality 11mm and 14mm flare nut spanners...
  3. So the guy at Parkers is either talking **** or confusing the wire with an abs sensor? Never heard of Parkers mate? if they have the indicators then you can just chop them off but you will probably pay more for them... best to get them from somewhere who has the correct data for the car tbh... As you're mate says it's maybe best to do them both or at least buy a pair - makes sense as he will have to re-do the tracking. I would buy both track rod ends too if they are original, bound to be passed there best at over 100k miles and the reason I said to get one anyway is the boots often split when you take them off and you also need to use a new nut everytime, if he uses the proper Sykes tool he should be ok but if it's coming off the car you might as well stick a new one back on. As always with this sort of stuff it's a case of how far do you go with it... for instance you could change both track rods for another £50 or so (new ones come with the ends) but then you could also rebuild the whole front end for £500ish...
  4. Yep, also check the wires are all tied up correctly behind that read panel - if any work has been done on the spoiler in the past then they may have been disturbed...
  5. It's the same size as the ones on the underside of the tailgate - just borrow one of these until you can get to halfords etc...
  6. Dave - I'd maybe just order a new pulley from VW just in case that one is stamped wrong... unlikely but at least it would rule things out... I know years ago people used to change these for a Passat G60 part as it was slightly bigger I think in diameter.
  7. You don't want them round here on a daily mate... honestly they are harsh... I'm driving the G60 most days and I'm going to need dental work soon...
  8. Pads are an hours work and probably about the same for the gaiter althoug in therory you should save time doing both together... not hard but a fiddle if you're not on a ramp. You need the gaiter, clips and probably best to buy a new track rod end as well for that side - get these from VW and the gaiters are plastic rather than rubber so last the 'lifetime' of the car rather than just a couple of years. Pads must have been low to fail an MOT!
  9. As Kev and Anton say above you will never get OE ride quality from Coilovers and certainly not from ones under £1000 I am running KW V1's on one car and OE VW (Sachs) shocks on the other with H&R OE sport springs... the difference in handling is negligable but the ride quality is night and day... The ride height is about the same on both (50mm from standard with equal gaps around the arches and wishbones parrellel) - cornering is better with the KW's but the springs are firmer and it sometimes feels less planted than the other car on bumpy roads... The ride quality isn't bad but you're kidding yourself if you think it's anything like as comfortable as the standard setup... tbh, if the roads round here don't improve I will seriously think about binning the Variant 1's and buying new shocks and springs again from VW! Lets not forget that the Corrado was (and still is) one of the best handling FWD cars ever built!
  10. Good to see you on here again Andy! Yep, another vote for standard here - only £30 or so.... Regular (3k MIles) oil changes are key to longevity
  11. Maybe headlight switch then mate...
  12. I dunno, belt to release the cambelt tensioner I'd say and slip the belt off before undoing the pulley then you need to let the new one settle on the tappets for a while before starting, maybe pour some fresh oil over it but if it's a brand new cam you should really use the proper paste and turn it by hand a few times. I'd do a cambelt and oil change at the same time ideally... What are you changing it too by the way as there is not much wrong with the standard cam (on a standard engine)?
  13. Used to be less than a fiver once but obselete now unfortunatly...
  14. Yep, probably a new door handle needed but you could just unplug it for now.
  15. It might be a short in the wiring to one of the door handles causing this... try the key in the door handles to put them back up again
  16. Yeah, Nick doesn't hang about does he - I've been seriously impressed with his work in the past! People moan about dealer labour charges but it just goes to show how much more you can get done with the correct training and special tools on hand.
  17. Weird... even if the crank had been re-faced then the pas pulley would not line up either...
  18. Oh no, that is right how you have it... IIRC there is a notch on the serp pully to locate it but if this wasn't in the right place I would have thought it would wobble like mad... Does the Pas pulley line up ok?
  19. I can't remember exactly how it sits but I think you might have the damper on the wrong side of the serp pulley!
  20. The glass is perfect because the heating elements aren't working :D Prise them off and have a look at the connectors behind
  21. Heh - reminds me of the Current Audi A4 colour chart...
  22. Nope... Corrado is much heavier...
  23. Sounds like a knackered alternator... Pop it too Halfords and get them to check the car on the bosch tester.
  24. If it blows instantly it will be a dead short... Most likely corrosion on one of the wing mirrors
