Hey chaps!
I'm not convinced myself, the timing said 13.1 but I really struggled to get away from the line without a diff. I could believe a low 14 or even just under, but low 13's just seems way off. Some of the times on the 1/4mile displays gave really strange numbers with some really quick cars running 4wd etc.
It is running ~0.8bar now and I never thought I'd ever say 290hp felt slow but it does when I go back to 0.5bar. The way the boost comes on is much nicer with the electronic boost controller. It feels really quick once it's moving 8)

All the hard work was worth it to see your face when you opened the bonnet for the first time Kip!
It made me rather damp too!

Spotted several rather attractive Corrado's driving in convoy down the droitwich road yesterday! Must have been atleast 10 of them with a rather tidy Scirocco and MK2 Golf GTi aswell! Not sure if any of them are using this forum?! ha ha ha :lol:I wondered if anyone would post this...just surprised it wasn't me!
Had forgotten what a blast it is to be in a convoy, the looks on passing drivers' faces are superb. Being the (currently slightly dinged) filling in a three tier Classic Green sandwich was superb, although all it's done is renew my enthusiasm for getting the new VR looking as nice as the old one/at least half as minty as Vaughan's and Dave's.
Oh, and Dave managed to "pootle" for all of about three quarters of a mile before engaging "otter drive".
Mmmmm more otter!

Kip as ever :salute: :notworthy:
-
Mmmmmmm nice valver! Can't wait to see your new motor Andy. Vaughan has been telling me how good it is 8)

Have some suitable heat sleeving that'll sort your cables Andy, but it does look like the clearance isn't quite right. Seems very tight under the bulkhead.....
-
Pretty sure you are supposed to have a CAT fitted, but most MOT places will realise that it's an unclassified engine and apply the default test. If it's like mine when it gets tested it passes but is really close on CO & HC due to not having a CAT (I am still running closed loop control). It is still really down to the MOT center as to how they interpret the MOT guidelines.
Put it in a see how you get on.....
PS I still have a Golf VR6 CAT and some band clamps ready to fit a CAT if needed (just for the test mind 8) ).

I was just about to say, 'make sure you get the VRs Revo'ed'. They go much better and it also improves the economy, which I still don't believe but I've known 2 now that show better economy post Revo :?
Like the Passat! Good choice. Saw a W8 4motion this afternoon and I want one!

My 9:1 was a little out, but not quite that much? Worth a double check of the timing, as already suggest by 'the wire'.
And I like that equal length short runner.... very nice 8)

Hi Ben, I'm going to put a post in the 'parts for sale' area to stop clogging up my members gallery. I do need to get some more made up so might be a small delay while that happens. I'll get you on that list. Hope this is OK.
The controller is work in progress still.... but some recent changes mean I now have the time to get it finished. Quite a few ideas on the cards for this one, but the main function will be smooth variable speed control of the new fans to control engine temp better and after run-on of the VR aux pump. Another reason is so that we can all ditch the rather troubled VW black box thing with something that works.
More on that soon 8)

Not looking forward to this job, my valver needs a screen badly and as with you guys I'm very concerned about getting a good job cos the VR is next.
I'm know they did a good job because you wouldn't have gone back if they hadn't :D Still makes me shudder when I think of those tools sliding down the side of your motor :pale:
Full commitment from you though Kip, especially so close to Stanford...
-
EEEEEK! Tools on the roof ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
Bloody hell Kip  no laughing going on here!

One of the cars in Germany had a loose rear caliper carrier while we pootled around. Quickly nipped up on the side of the road in a busy part of Osnabruk though. :)LOL! Guess who
Looking good Pete, glad it's finally coming together.
-
Yep Jetex do an early system, my valver has one fitted. The rear silencer looks a little strange though (I'll take some pics if you want to see what I mean...). It fits fine, no knocking etc
-
Sounds like MAF failure / wiring of MAF? VAG-COM will tell you for sure.
-
Nice work Yan! Well worth all the effort you've put in :)
-
Hey Andy!
Looking forward to a damned good thrash around Coombe in the vRS :D at the Briskoda trackday. I'll bring my own trousers this time

Love it!

Think it needs a special 'pie' factor adding into the equation
-
Lol! Fun toy this....
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 291
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1350
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 219.02
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.30
0 - 100 (Secs) : 12.21
60 - 100 (Secs) : 6.91
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.61
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 105.55
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.41
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 107.45
Lots of factors that can change how real these figure are though...... Your diff will be a huge benefit as would some sticky tyres (R888's spring to mind)
Trying different weight figures highlights just how much difference a few kilos makes to performance.
Having said that, it seems pretty accurate 0-60, but the quarter mile figure is a little optimistic. Mine will do low 14's, but never had a 13

Dave if you fancy a drive out to the sticks .... :wave:Sorry Gary, only just spotted this! Been busy in the garden all day making a den for my daughter. Lots of daddy points scored today
-
Looking good Dave 8) its down to good polish mate :thumbleft:And a little hint of OCD
Just making the most of the paint as it is for the moment. I still remember it being rather average at a CCGB National day back in 2006 :) Especially as I drooled over most of the other cars attending (Bill, Judith etc) very clean motors.
Sure we'll get a chance to have another run out Jim, it might be running a little more boost by then
Cheers David, glad you enjoyed it. Not so much of a wild animal, more a smooth torquey cruiser.
Well the sun is out again today and it really feels like Corrado time! Worcester meet anyone? :D
Corrado Spotting! Was it you?

Spotted a K plate black or blue C today ~4.30pm on the A507 near Ampthill / Shefford. Only saw you at the last minute but did catch you waving out of the window as you went off down the road
