  1. Shaun, mmmm tasteful!

Thanks Paul! You're very welcome. The brakes are getting better and better as the pads settle in. Although some of the improvement could be the Red Stuff pads?

I'll see you tomorrow at Tatton. Although it's raining outside ATM, and I have a lot to do on the VR due to the 16V having blown it's head gasket last Friday.

It's taken most of my evenings this week to get it apart, fixed and back together. Minor mess with the cam timing, I made the classic error of not checking the alignment after tightening the cams down. All sorted now, seems to be running much better.

Found a broken injector air shroud, two bad injectors with uneven fuel spray (well more of a dribble). The inlet valves on those ports and valves were clogged with gunge, so it was running pretty much on three valves on two cylinders.

It's had..... new lifters, fuel injectors, injector air shrouds, cam belt and tensioner, stem seals, bit of a head fettle, valves cleaned and lapped in. Runs lovely and quiet now and no boiling over!

  2. Mmmm 288's, should have been fitted as standard. Great brakes! Bit like OBD2, that should have been standard too :(

Nice job Mic! Tight fit in the 15s though eh? My balance weights must leave a gap of about 3.5mm between the caliper and the weights  close but works fine.

  3. Could be any of the above. Master / Slave etc but most likely cause of sudden pedal loss is a cracked release arm.

You could maybe try bleeding the slave cylinder first just to make sure.

Standard clutch is good for at least 260lbft and maybe a bit more, so unless you have big turbo plans in the near future I'd go standard.

And yes might be worth doing the timing chains at the same time.....

  4. Guess that was the brake back plate that Kip caught his arm on then!

Nope, the metal clip that holds the hand brake cable under the rear beam. I've just been told it had split in two..... it definitely looked nasty and sharp when I went out too see which bit had attacked him.

Easily notifiable as to which bit it was as there was some of his skin and hair stuck to it...euck :pukeright:

    euck indeed!

Must be an easy way of getting those clips on / off...... but to this day it eludes me :D

  5. Anyone remember when the TopGear lads worked out how much extra it cost to carry a beard around for a year

My valver is way better on fuel if only half full (or is that half empty!), but I think thats more to do with the leak from somewhere on the tank :D (note to self, must fix valver fuel tank leak).

  6. Looking sooooo nice Shaun, 90mm splitter does look much better. Very nice picture too.

Blimey you must almost be at the speed limit in that shot

Actually, do you mind if I steal that picture..... I have a special place for it, which I'm sure you'll like :?

  7. :) Cheers, Manky Monkey  I've always driven it quite hard, but Rach is/was the primary user, and she 'pootles'

I'm enjoying driving the vRS- it's crying out for a remap though! (see Dave's post on the previous page ;) )

You just can't beat a good 'pootle', top marks to Rach :D

Trip to Jabbasport then Andy? Custom remap? or going for generic?

  8. As Toad said above really.

I had mega trouble getting all the air out of mine. In the end I had the ezibleed connected with a friend putting lots of pressure on the pedal, then cracked the calipers open until the pedal was down. The rush of fluid seems to clear the airlocks fine and it's amazing just how much air is left in. After a few goes the pedal was great. We had the whole car in the air on stands, was much easier in the long run.

It's even better now with the 288's on :D

  9. as above it looks like the alarm sensor. It should be fitted at the top of the windscreen pillar on either side using the trim screw. Although my early valver has it by the sun visor? Could be alarm / fitter dependent though. The first pic is my 95 VR and it's still the original Conlog factory fit. The 2nd one is a Waso that may be aftermarket?

  10. Speedflow (the rather excellent hose and fittings place) make a definate statement in their catalog about NOT using braided hoses from the chassis to the engine as they're not designed to flex enough and have been known to cause fatigue failure of the fittings at the ends.

Fay at speedflow really knows her stuff, and I guess hose failure on a top fuel dragster can make quite a mess (she used to race them!).

    Just my 2p

  11. Welcome! We're just getting started on VRT's over here... but I hear so many stories from people who 'Have something in the pipeline'. So pretty sure we'll have a few more before long. Never had a disapointed passenger yet  and my VRT must be one of the mildest.

Megasquirt does have code built in for driving NOS etc, which could be used for Methanol instead. Trouble is I think thats the MSnExtra code for the MSII processor which didn't support EGT when I last looked (only the early MS1 code had EGT, but it wasn't great on my VRT). I'll have a dig about of the forum to see if that's changed.

  12. Ah this old chestnut. I affectionately call it, "Shit and Grit" and really hate encountering any in the C or any other car I own for that matter.

Several miles of the Daventry Road have just been done and it was hideous on the first day, but three days later after several sweepings it's looking really fresh and grippy. I just wish we had some way of finding out when it going to be done so we could avoid those routes for a few days.....

Gully Cleansing? I like the sound of that

  13. I think thats what i was going for as well, external wastegated and unsure whether to go for the v band clamping exhaust.

Go v-band IMHO, I didn't and it's a bit of a pain doing bolts up with limited access.....

  14. Think you need to join Jame's boost junkie group. "Hi, my names Shaun..... and I'm a boost 'o holic"

Think I need a proper standalone before more boost :( want the handling sorted first.....
