  1. Fantastic Stuff, :) cant wait to see it fabbed up and fitted. I will always love the n's as the just look sublime on a Corrado especially a silver one. I would love to see them on mine foe a few pictures one day you know.

    Yes Kip. It has been a while. Im hoping the manifold will be on this time next week as i am away with work for a couple of days.

    I remember bumping into you at G-Werks many years ago when you had your Storm admiring the Shrick you had on it.

    I met a chap called Mark at Harewood this year, he recently bought N100VSR with (unsurprisingly) a VSR under the bonnet - if only VW had stuck them in all Corrado VR6... damm you VW for cutting corners!!

    That G Werks open day was a long time ago. I actually got that Schrick from Gwerks, it was new and cost £700. How values change. N100VSR is a very nice car, i haven't seen it for real but have admired it for several years.

     

    What car were you in back then James?

     

    Very jealous! ACF50 is a good option to protect from oxidisation

     

    I have had a couple of people say that. I think i am going to leave the casting 'au naturale' and keep it looking that way.

     

    Just read through the whole thread, stunning car! Love the attention to detail. I don't think I've ever seen a vsr before :scratch:

  2. Why not just run a normal manifold then? Is there any advantage to running the VSR without the flap and ECU map? Seems a shame to have all the bits and not use it as intended. The vacuum reservoir can tuck away nicely inside the inner wing.

     

    The attraction for me is the rarity of the part. If i ever feels the need i can hook it all up.

     

    I had the timing chain covers blasted on my engine and didn't do anything with them, just bolted them on and they soon get the white fuzz on them.

     

    Am about to have my inlet manifold done and was planning to just spray it silver, but noticed the place i go to does enamel coatings, not sure how it looks yet though.

     

    Did you have the throttle body done? Looks mint, i take it they can do that safely without masking off the plastic bits

     

    Yes mate, the TB was done complete. Aqua blasting doesn't damage any of it.

     

    Parts look great! Check with kippy but I’m sure he said he uses WD40 on his manifold.

     

    I want to coat them in something. I painted all the parts last night with a high temp aluminium paint. I painted my standards manifold with it. For some reason it has come out very powdery so i have taken it all off and am back to the drawing board.


  3. All looks very nice! Did I just read this right to say that you were putting the VSR into a fixed position and using it as a normal manifold without any of the bits? Sacrilege!

     

    Did the mapped ECU come with the VSR?

     

    You did. With the flap removed and blanked off it is just as normal. I don't want the wiring and vacuum items under the bonnet. Obviously all parts are being retained and tucked away. The kit consisted of manifold, 2 x plates, 1 VW motorsport electronic controller, vacuum reservoir, wiring, tubing and the Stealth mapped ECU.


  4. Here are the smaller parts fresh from being aqua blasted. I don't know whether to paint the panel and the manifold which i should have back on Friday. The finish of the panel is nice as is but it will oxidise. Anyone have any experience of looking after aluminium parts like this?

  5. Yes mate, the real thing.

     

    Interestingly the old one i had was different. It had a Pieburg script on the manifold itself and there was no plate. This one comes with the plate(s) but having taken it off it does not have Pieburg on the casting itself. I have read that the ones with the writing on are prototypes but i have no idea of how many have or haven't got any writing on.

     

    This one is complete. The vacuum reservoir isn't original. I believe it should come with a green spherical one. All other parts are there. The plan as per last time though is to blank of the actuator and run it is a normal manifold. I don't want the additional parts under the bonnet so they will be stored away.

     

    Here it is. Luckily it has an oversized throttle body on it. It is off to be aqua blasted today and then i will decide on its final finish.

    The current wheels are Audi speedlines from a TT. I still have the RSs, Nothelles and some proper marmite.

  6. I haven't updated this in ages so here goes.

     

    The car has hardly moved in 3 years, around 1500 miles in all. I have kept my eye open for nice parts and recently i struck gold.

     

    I owned a VSR in 2013 but it wasn't complete so i sold it on and had my eye open for another since. As many will be aware a car came up that was damaged with one fitted so it had to be done. I contacted the Corrado wobble in Glasgow (Easypops) and shorty after the car (and me) were headed North. I think it is fair to say the result was great for both of us.

  7. I don't know if this has been mentioned on here but clearly the forum is not the place it used to be. The majority of Corrado type reading is now on Facebook etc which has its merits. You can get more live feedback from people, it is easy to upload pictures etc.

     

    However there are no build threads anymore, you cannot do that easily on a facebook page. A lot of the pleasure i get from this community is following how people have developed their car and also being able to have a 'diary' of my own car.

     

    Does anyone else feel this may end up going full circle and eventually we may all return to posting on here.


  8. Update on my issue which might help others - checked everything including removing and stripping rear suspension strut, last thing to look at was axle bush - guess what!! Needed only perhaps one full turn to tighten but that solved it.

     

     

    Result. Those axle bush bolts should be 60Nm.


  9. That’s weird, as I remember very well us tightening these all up to the correct torque at the time they were fitted? Or I should say, I remember you doing them all and no way you put them together without checking they were done up correctly?

     

    I know mate. I remember hanging off the tongue wrench. Maybe it is due to the components being painted. Same principle when you have wheels refurbed you should check the torque settings of the bolts after a while.

     

    Anyway, I'm just glad to get to the bottom of it and know all is ok. I enjoyed stopping the boot out, removing both rear interior panel trims, the back seats, both suspension legs along the way. Its all part of the fun. Bloody Corrados.


  10. Fixed.

     

    Rear brake caliper to carrier bolts loose, hand tight passenger side and not much better drivers side. Both rear axle bushes not tight enough.

     

    I have checked and re-torqued every bolt. Lesson here is double check everything and then check it again.


  11. I wondered if the lower bush in the damper was OK, where it connects to the rear beam, any movement?

     

    Then on the blow up of the damper, there are three number 15 nuts, the lowest one of those holds sleeve number 8 and the spring top cap down against a collar on the damper rod. You could have the top two nuts tight and preventing any movement there (which you've checked) whilst still having movement lower down because the lower nut isn't tight.

     

    I have checked the lower nut is torqued correctly so feel my hunt will be in the lower area of the suspension. Ill check the bushing on the coilover itself.

     

    Interestingly i cannot get the car to make the noise by pushing down on the boot lip and bouncing the suspension.

    It might be worth you sitting in the back of the car with someone else driving, if you hold the top of the strut while driving along you might be able to feel the clunk which could be in the strut itself.

     

    That’s if you trust anyone to drive your car!! :)

     

    Darren, you know me too well. My dad very politely sat in the boot but nothing obvious from in there. The noise is audible outside the car so will resume the hunt underneath.
