No light at all? You won't feel any ABS-related bumps through the pedal till the ABS valve block runs through it's self test at 10km/h on first pulling away. How many ABS lights fail? Not many - more likely is someone trying to hide an ABS fault.

It's written in your owners guide .. and it should also be on a sticker in the door jam, iirc.

The standard tyres are supposed to be run at 36/32 f/r so yes, 30 is a tad low .. spongey handling a plenty, no doubt ..!

Two hours labour, so £80+VAT. My cambers were out on the front, and the toe was one degree out too. The car feels a whole lot more stable now.. A lot less "grabby"..

Hope they managed to get your wishbones in the end Nick ... VW in their infinite wisdom apparently sent two LH 'bones ... Doh! My VR was in fine form on the way home. I can thoroughly recommend Vince's 4-wheel alignment rig - it's transformed the feel of the car! Oh and getting rid of the nasty, clunky seized track rods has to help too .. :) Good news: VW now "only" charges £55 + VAT for VR6 track rods. Erm..

I have heard from other people that the LHD cars don't use vacuum brake servos, I think they use the ABS pump circuit somehow instead.

Easiest is A34 -> M40 to junction 11. Then follow signs for southam. You will drive past stealth just before you get to Southam itself. Shortest is to come off Junction 12 - follow signs to southam again, but this way you have to navigate round the south side of the village, which is not necessarily so obvious, but even that's only a couple of roundabouts so isn't brain surgery.

It might need any of those things, but that's not necessarily related to the fact that it's stood still for six months. There have been a few good discussions on how to treat a car that's stood for a while, but I would imagine it's too late now because if "it runs well" it's probably already been fired up. Look for seized handbrake mechanisms and wheel bearings and sticky calipers though.

Yeah, the Corrado was pretty lardy for it's time - they're all around 1100-1200 kg, depending on trim and engine type, so it's about the same weight as the Golf 4. Given that every VW gearbox seems to have slightly different ratios it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the Golf VR had different final drive compared to the Corrado VR, but I don't know for sure! And I think you're right - ask a different forum you'll get a different answer .. :)

I was joking .. :) But I don't think it's quite as "legit" as they make out, nonetheless.
-
I think they got the before and after pics mixed up ..

Vince has a Golf with some five spoke wheels with black spokes and silver rims .. Looks smart, ish. I think I like the idea of some dark grey, non-shiny finish myself actually ..

Many people go for the Schrick 268s, which give you probably around 15 bhp up top, but they do little or nothing for the midrange. In fact, they're happiest with the Schrick inlet manifold, which will pad out the midrange for you. I've not really heard much about other options..

RS VR6 is an Iron Maiden fan ...

Good cams for naturally aspirated cars are not good cams for forced induction cars, usually, unfortunately. But yes, it's a good time to get something fitted if it's all coming to bits anyway. :)

I'm confused as to how the steering rack can cause movement on one side only.. I would say it's more likely to be the track rods.
-
Yes, the K+N cone is very loud, I would agree there! But it does make you grin.. :) If I had to be pressed I would say that K+N compared to standard provides a little more urgency and pickup in the midrange, but tbh it's so hard to be objective that I wouldn't really want to stand up in court and state that.

Lambda or MAF are the most likely culprits for mixture problems, I would have thought.

You don't drive those extra wheels all the time, afaik the diffs deal with all that. But the biggest part of the hit is twisting all those extra driveshafts, albeit from the wheel end, rather than from the engine end. No idea what the real world stats come out at, but from what I've heard the R32 is pretty heavy and none too streamlined and that alone will make a huge different to performance. Power/weight is what counts at low speed and power/drag factor at high speed. The R32 is aroung 1.5 tons.. (Ok the Corrado is no lightweight, but still!)
-
You mean "205/45/R16"? The R here is not the speed rating .. See here: http://www.blackcircles.com/tyrehelp Should be fine! :)
-
Vince up at Stealth apparently reported zero difference on the rolling road when doing a before-and-after power run during the fitting of a de-cat pipe to a standard Golf VR6, or so I'm told. Shares can go down as well as up, in other words. I am told, however, that the benefit is greatly increased if you're running FI.
-
There's usually a "weight" rating in the model name of the tyre: so the VR's standard tyres are 205/50/15ZR 86V - the 86V indicates the weight and loading support. I doubt that a 205 width tyre is going to have LESS than an 86 weight rating, so I wouldn't have thought that would be an issue. The speed rating may be an issue though, depending on how sharp eyed and pedantic your MOT testers are.

No need any more. Genuine electronically controlled dampers are available - which is the same idea but much less crude than the "leccie motor bolted to the adjuster". New Vauxhalls have it - maybe VWs too, but I don't get any inside info on VW parts, only ZF ones ..

I was going to say ...

We need this stuff to be in a FAQ...
