Slow progress at the moment but the cracked screen is out and the first stage of primer is on. Good news when the screen came out as all the metal work was in mint condition, with only a very small amount of surface corrosion. They've mixed a primer in purple so the topcoat doesn't have to go on too thick. Boring images I know but all part of the overall picture.

I bought some from the dealer a couple of weeks ago so should be good for stock.

Hi Dukest My details are virtually identical to yours (okay I do live 200 miles furthur north) but I pay £200 through Performance direct (broker). The insurance cover itself is through Redstar equity and is on a classic car policy ( It's also got an agreed value as well). I've used them for years and have had no issues of concern. Their number is 0844 573 3507. James

May have been covered before but it here it is anyway... http://www.nme.com/news/metallica/3235 Anybody know of any other famous owners or if his old car is knocking about still ?
-
I'm with Performance Direct for my VR and have similar details to yourself. I always give them a ring every year when shopping around. My other car policy is with Adrian flux who are also light years ahead on price. With the VR, AF couldn't get anywhere near the PD quote. When I questioned this, it turned out the VR would be on a classic car policy. I've claimed through PD before and had no problems what ever, so this also puts my mind at rest, should the worst happen.

Tidy, silver L reg VR6 in Standish at 1:30 pm... ...then later in Upholland at 3:40. Saddled along side and offered a "nice car mate". Can't believe I've seen another Corrado, let alone another VR in the village. Felt really happy. Closely followed with waves of sadness because I can't drive mine. boo hiss.
-
I think that applies to all Corrados !

Had my weekly trip down to the dealers and called in at the bodyshop for an update to see if they had made a start. They've filled the bumps/dings/knocks and started on the prep. Primer to go on next week. Images thus far...

10mm bolt as Wormy says. Be careful when sliding the seats back when the bolt is undone. The runners will have grease and dirt on them and this can mark your carpet. Not so bad if the carpets black but not so good if It's a light colour.

Check the relay. That's what stopped mine working.

I would like to set up Vag-Com on my computer. What do I need ? I've got a PC and know that I need the 2x2 connector (does this go by any other name ? and are the ones on ebay reliable) as I have a 92 VR6. Went to the Ross-tech website and that's where my problems started. Which, what, where ??? I've had a trawl through the threads so my apologies if I have overlooked it.

Many thanks to Neal aka "87 Jetta 16v" for the fogs/indicators. Yet again a great product in great condition.

I had one and it was a second generation model. It was one the best cars I have owned fun wise. I used to work out in the country and felt like Hannu Mikkola driving home on those roads. Fair to say that considering I drove it like I'd stolen it (the car dictated that, not me) every time I drove it, it stood up very well indeed. It will feel like driving a paper cup with an engine compared to the Corrado though. I went the other way and "sold up" to a Corrado (or what felt like a tank). Things to look for (but not exhaustive). Wheels - Came with diamond cut lips (good way to spot either repaired or damaged wheels). Plastic front wings so rust shouldn't be an issue. Rear wings are where they start to rust (badly) And can even start rusting up in the arch and through to the outside. unless it's been stored in a Carcoon or done half a dozen miles then it will have had arch work. Drive the car in second to about 4k and let off the loud pedal. If it pulls out of gear then it may be the engine mounts but can also be mis-diagnosed as a gear fork selector. They drink alot of oil. Best to get a friend at Opec. Cambelt is a big job and can easily be "forgoten about" by some owners. The part is peanuts but the labour involved is extensive. I had a cambelt break and made the now regrettable action of turning the engine over. I was lucky as it only bent three rods and block survived. The aerial is huge and can eventually wobble loose. This lets water into the roof where the interior light switch is and can damage the electrics. Pop the cover off and have a poke around. They are generally relaible cars and share most parts with the more popular 16v but they are after all at least 14 years old now.

Is this the start of the end for parts support?
James. replied to corozin's topic in General Car Chat
My concerns regarding the thread were along the same line lines as your Yandards. That said I thought it worth bringing to the table as to garner opinion. It does make me wonder whether VW are purposley upping the price of some items (wing mirror lenses for one). Therefore no one will buy them and VW can rightfully say "No one bought them so we stopped making them" or that they are still making them in small numbers and that is affecting the retail price. -

I visited Corkills in Wigan yesterday with my weekly "list of annoyance" here are the results (along with some from the past few weeks) Some are obvious but I wanted to confirm for my own records: Sunroof seal £44 +vat VR6 badge front (both colours) Obsolete VR6 badge rear (both colours) Obsolete Corrado rear badge - available in primer only (didn't check price) Wing mirror lens (left) - £54 plus vat Wing mirror lens (right) - £48 plus vat Bonnet prop holder (white) 40p + vat Rear number plate plinth - £58 plus vat Underbody spalash/wind deflectors (left) - £38 plus vat Underbody spalash/wind deflectors (right) - £38 plus vat Bonnet sound deadening/heat foam - £138 + vat Fog light and black housing (late - left) £112 + vat (not inc indicator) Fog light and balck housing (late - fight) £112 + vat (not inc indicator) Battery cover £20 + vat Rear wiper/wash cover £1.28 + vat Wing mirror gaskets (left) £5.00 + vat Wing mirror gaskets (right) £5.00 + vat Bonnet pin locator - left (riveted type) £2.41 + vat Bonnet pin locator - right (riveted type) £2.41 + vat Door handle gasket (non sided) - 32p each + vat Blue badge clip (for rear "Corrado" and VW badges) - 41p each + vat Mods: Is it worth creating a "Confirmed obsolete parts" thread (with part numbers ???). That way, one could search the thread and potentially save themselves time at the parts desk (always a good thing) Though there's an absolute sweetie working at Corkills so I may have to make a few return journeys there for "Research Purposes" . -
Took my fogs indoors to keep warm while I cleaned them :) Took them back to the garage and dropped one. Smashing the lens in the process :censored:

Multimeter is always good place to start. Try the corresponding fuse/relay as there's one per seat. In my haste, I pulled my seat apart (okay I was cleaning it anyway) only to find it was a bad contact.

That's the puppy !

I like this a lot. Can't wait to see it all put together.
-
Course I will but from memory the sliders are just standard and the two buttons occupy a switch where the switch blank is found, under the fogs and HRW. I'm sure I've seen the same switch/setup in the Golf MK2 Haynes manual. Yep, sounds the same as mine (92 VR-early interior)
-
Have you had the door handle apart/ off ? If so, you may have inserted the barrel upside down !

From what I have read over the years, UK cars had to be retro fitted with the Diavia system as it was non standard equipment (i would imagine to keep the retail cost of the car down). Where as the US and Euro cars had the system fitted from the factory ? I've never seen my system on another Corrado (Early interior) as it's always the later cars with the rotary dials with air con I've seen. Try VW Vortex as this system in consistent with the US ? PS: I would be keen to hear how this turns out. Keep me posted. NB: I've also seen the same set up on a late MK2 golf (rare US spec mind)
-
I've seen them sliders before on US spec cars. Does it say anything in the Bentley manual ? Sorry but I can't help with the mechanics of operation. I would only imagine that the slider triggers the air con at some point.
-
I have a Diavia system on a 92 VR6 if that's any good ? If it is then the air con system has two buttons on the dash. One (yellow) re-circulates the air and cuts of external air supply. The other (blue) activates the air con. The cold air is simply fed into the existing air channels. The sliders don't affect the air con at all. They only adjust direction and hot/cold adjustment. I'd send you an image but the cars gone in for some work and won't be back for a few weeks. Hope this helps James
