surely the oil companies must bear some responsibility themselves as it was they who said the increase was needed when crud oil prices went up drastically funny how they are not so quick to drop the prices when they are now making so much more money now its crashed road tax has been a UK rip off almost since the time it was conceived as shortly after the scheme began they stopped using it for what it was meant for - IE the maintenance & repair of our UK roads......& look at the state of them now!!

Sill repair section available from Classic Parts via VW Heritage

good info thanks :) ive managed to decipher & complete the online contact form asking for prices with shipping - i fear it will be a wallet basher -
Indeed Jim but 'we' the public are were told back when petrol was still under the £1 level that the big increase was due to the high price of oil per barrel i know we the majority of the forecourt price is duty BUT why are we not seeing a heavy decrease now that the price per barrel has dropped so much - its so the fat cats can line their greedy pockets

Sill repair section available from Classic Parts via VW Heritage

Ooo thanks Andy, very much appreciated!! i hadnt checked there. I only need a section of it for each side so i may be able to cut it up & use on both sides Andy you are a star - ive had a search through the classic parts site & they have the A pillar part available for both sides LHS = 535809839A RHS = 535809840A only trouble now is that chrome doesnt translate the 'contact us' form & i dont read german - anyone know an email address for them? -
Crude oil has been making lots of headlines in the past week or two, mainly due to it crashing out of its own backside. http://www.businessinsider.com/oil-gets-crushed-october-7-2014-10 the price per barrel is now almost HALF what it was in its peak in 2011 yet our forecourt prices remain overly inflated im sure most of you will agree how much it vexes us that they are so quick to increase the forecourt price when the barrel price goes up but god damn they dont like reducing it anywhere near as quickly OR by anywhere near as much when it goes down how are these business 'criminals' getting away with continually ripping us off!!!! & why are the UK government - who are supposedly voted in by us & are meant to work for the benefit of us the UK public - doing nothing to force these companies to reduce the cost as quickly as they increase it IMO i feel that our MP's are only in it for the benefit of lining their own pockets with as much money they can get from as many angle's as possible & generally dont give a flying f**k about the people they are meant to 'work for' discuss....

thanks jon_vr6 they were my 1st port of call - unfortunately they only list a 'fuel filler retention spring' in their section for panels - sills & floors i thought id ask on here & then maybe PM anna to see if they are working on sourcing any but i also feel that will possibly be extremely expensive

Hi all I post this with the anticipation that it will be a big no & a dead end but thought worth asking you lovely people just in case. I have search on here & know there is a left outer sill part on ETKA, number 535809847, & that VW used to provide them but ive spoken with dealer today & they are no longer available & there are none in the UK My mechanic is a superb welder but a repair panel or section of a sill would help greatly. Does anyone know of any stock of the part listed anywhere or have any ideas? It is actually only a small section below the A pillar which needs repairing but the ETKA diagram doesnt show that part number 10 & would be over kill as it includes part of the door frame Im thinking the only likely option is to fabricate it from scratch Thanks in advance :)
-
ahh ok worth an ask....good luck
-
Done & done Jim :D
-
thought it might be worth adding to this thread that the outer sill parts are obsolete & VW have zero stock in the UK :( fabrication it is then i guess

Oh please let me win this lol

great info Jim, thank you! when tim was discussing it with me he said he had used gliptone product on the 944 he was having restored. he mentioned that cracks in the leather happen due to the fatty cells we all secrete & that he applied a gliptone product & then used a tea towel & a very cool iron - the process of ironing the leather with the towel in between is so that it draws the fatty cells into the towel & thus reduces the cracks i have been meaning to give this a try for quite some time now but just havent had chance - it would be interesting to see if it works
-
hi m8 tim who used to present for 5th gear told me a couple of years ago that for excellent results the gliptone range is one of the best IIRC some members here haved used it themselves try here http://www.liquidleather.com/
-
no problem m8 if i see any others i will post here again for you :)
-
Tidy Rog!! & the sister product looks good too ;)
-
hi rabbit you have probably already seen it but there is this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CORRADO-EARLY-STYLE-FRONT-GRILL-WITH-BADGE-VR6-G60-16V-8V-/360756660289?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53fec5c841 early one on ebay it has a slight crack but with some super glue & a rub down / primer / paint it should be ok both bottom tabs are still there too
-
excellent news karmannski! im sure we are all waiting excitedly :)
-
indeed its a hard search m8 there seemed to be lost of late grill's but very few early's i only found the one with all 4 tabs still in tact - which is the one i brought, it needs a sanding & respray but that wont take long & ive got the black paint already if i see one i will drop you a message
-
hi good luck hunting it took me a while vw heritage sell them new but they are very expensive! i managed to source one from ebay which included the VW & 16v badges too - VW heritage is around £80 just for the grill
-
IIRC the switch & barrel are 2 separate items & can be replaced individually
