  1. welcome VW4Life! take a look around & make yourself at home :)
  2. wow! what made you come to the decision to sell Byrd?
  3. yes m8 they probably do, i will give you that one lol
  4. shop around tho m8 as the halfords sets has imperial stuff in there which you may not need & will drstically reduce the number of usable tools
  5. Excellent. Thank you kindly davidwort!! sometimes i wonder how we would all get on owning rado's without this forum & its helpful members
  6. Ahhh im glad i asked too then lol id had a similar idea to your baster but think it might end up with a small amount of air in there I dont have my bentley manual with me at work, i wonder if it has any advice in there. I did say to vince that i might call him about tips for the valver matrix. it was his mechanic who spotted it on ebay & sent me the link via vince & we had a good conversation once i had brought it back but then hopefully someone will pop up here with some info in the meantime
  7. Out of interest Jim (or anyone with experience of doing this) - is there anything special required to refill the cooling system once the new matrix is all fitted & connected back up? I guess if the system hasnt been drained for X amount of time it might be worth a drain & flush & then just refill as normal? or if just top up the system is there a need to run the engine with the expansion tank lid off so as to purge any air in the system? i fitted a new rad in my VR with my uncle but we did a full drain on that thanks muchly
  8. Took the thoughts out of my mind Jim. I have a lucky part that my gf's mom will let me use her double garage. Plus i kind of need to get the valver off my parents drive before they return next week & need the final BBS split finished to do that. Im planning on using the valver during the winter so as to keep the VR off the salty roads so it will definitely be attacked soon but i like your thinking Goldie Plus Im in the middle of selling my apartment / buying a house at present too so its like everything has come at the same time lol I think if i dont attempt it this weekend i will at least get the release fluid on the bolts holding the matrix in & get the battery connected & give her a little run up & down the road. Oh & i will probably try & get the 7 slat grill refurb'd & on it too
  9. good work Jim!! & nice update with tips :) im deliberating whether to start mine this weekend or get my last BBS done & then have it MOT'd before fitting the matrix
  10. responses to this show a fantastic display of caring & passion & empathy for a fellow members heart breaking news! :) it may not bring the lovely nugget back but hopefully they can take solace from the kind words i really hope you get some good news from your insurer
  11. hello there. take a look at the buying guide in the wiki & also the for sale sections on here - they should give you a good start :)
  12. oh my dear lord! i feel sick to the core after watching that steve, i cant imagine how you must feel :( i dont know if asking how or why would be pertinent at this time. truly savage
  13. is that kind of like the 'bird feather technology' spray substance ive seen? based on the principle that birds feathers are water proof due to the way they create millions of microscopic ridges with gaps so small between each 1 that a single water particle can not fall between them & thus the water beads & rolls off i think that is the substance sony use on their experia to make it water proof
  14. Ha ha no good sir, just a shy under at 38. Am praying & hoping & crossing everything for a BIG birthday pressie for my 40th......oink oink ;) lol
  15. welcome. It is a shame to hear you have been an owner for so long but only now post when your thinking of selling. good luck with it though
  16. Indeed Kev!! fortunately we are pretty good at panel work thanks to the endless hours of rubbing & prep'ing on VW camper vans lol Yes m8, the temptation for the 850 CSi is almost a big as that for the E30 M3 but with the advantage of a V12 My dads hasnt been out of the garage for well over 10 years but i still hear in my mind the rumble of the flat 6 that used to wake me up as a child :D I'm not too far off 40 & am hoping it might make a long awaited return appearance then ;)
  17. it was a jesting comment in an earlier post on the thread Kev ;) why thank you. i know my uncle is keen to restore it but currently building funds as it might be quite a whopper of a build cost. However, with the reg plate it has too it really will be a stunner when finished I know what you mean about Porsche build quality too. I still remember driving my dads 1978 911 SC when i was just 18, the sturdy reassuring feeling of feedback the whole car gives you actually made you feel like you were having to 'drive' it rather than be a driving passenger like modern cars
  18. my 'ewww' comment was a throw away one really ;) my unlce has an old BMW 3.0 CSi, reg is black & silver style BMW 309L, & though it needs restoring it is a stunning car with presence every where you look kinda like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/21/BMW_3.0CSi-Front.jpg Im quite fickle with more modern cars as the majority i do not like. Maybe its the way the manufacturers all seem to copy each other when a more unusual design arrives or a particular model takes off. For example the amount of 'chelsea tractors' i see around is horrendous & they all look very similar. Or take the new scirocco - that looked a lovely 'new' shape until all the other car makers realised it was selling & copied it. In essence they just loose any ability to have character.
  19. Kev - that is a fantastic explanation & a great level of detail thank you on behalf of us all on here for continuing to share your vast knowledge & experience, i know personally i learn much from you
  20. oh dear, sad news indeed but agree with sean that its great that you are not going to let it beat you
  21. i hoped you would pop up here Kev - great input & love the technical name for the snorkel!
