1. Hi folks, I've been at my local VW garage in Dundee and I'm having some problems with what they're telling me.... First, I bought the following items: Sunroof lube fuel tank straps strap clips tank strap bolts Crank bolt I enquired as to a discount with my Corrado club membership card. The manager told me they don't do discounts on "service items"... Well the lube sure but the crank bolt? fuel tank straps? I was a little miffed but I payed the £110 the parts cost i thought better luck next time. WELL next time came today, I ordered the following parts: Sunroof seal Bumper Bolts internal door card screws internal trim screws fitted chin splitter screws Came to just under £100 with vat. Now I ordered these parts at the garage last week when I collected the other bits and i asked them at the time "can i get a discount?". The chap I asked said he didn't know but would ask his manager and get back to me... In the meantime, the parts would be available to collect on Wednesday (yesterday). Well i didn't hear back, so i went to the garage today and asked about the discount. "Can't give you a discount because the parts where on next day delivery" I was told. I asked him why this was the case as this isn't something I specifically asked for and that a 6day delivery doesn't constitute "next day". He said "sorry mate it's what the boss told me". :mad2: I ain't happy... First off, I pay my annual club fee to the CCGB. And they I'm sure do fine work getting the club discounts that we can all benefit from. But it doesn't mean squat when your local dealer wont honour the discounts! This isn't a dig at the club (who i think do a great job) but more that the dealer can just choose to ignore the discounts agreed with the club if it pleases them. Second, Is this common for vw garages? The other garage near me after Dundee is in Kirkcaldy and they where saying i could get up to 20% off depending on what I ordered but they said the minimum discount is 5-10%. So why not the Dundee garage!? I'll not be buying from them in the future if they can choose to not give discounts...
2. Nah... however close i look they still look like square pegs in a round hole
3. could have fooled me, I was going to say square!
4. Thanks Yan, i remember you saying before but i couldn't find the thread. I'll use the 16v rad panel and the slam panel I've got and just cut/drill holes for the pas and brake pipes. ---------- Post added at 03:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM ---------- They use the same pic on etka for 8v and 16v engines of that age. Saves on pictures i think... :bonk:
5. BACK ON TOPIC! I've purchased some new jubilee clips, got a 35pc set of stainless steel clips in a box delivered to the door for less than £10, Not Bad! :D Next I'm going to slow down a little... My sisters wedding is in 2 weeks and I have to pay for a hotel room in some fancy castle so I'll not be buying anything else till next month. Will have to content myself with fitting the few bits and bobs I've got.
6. NAH! They're awesome! woo! ---------- Post added at 01:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:19 PM ---------- so there!
7. That's the ticket! been looking all morning for them! Was wanting to get these on the Corrado... what do you think? Might have to roll the arches to get these to fit though I reckon...
8. Has anyone ever seen 4 stud 4 x 100 hub adaptors to make them fit 5 x 100 wheels? I assume it can't be done....
9. google is your friend http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=lardy+cake&aq=f&aqi=g7g-v3&aql=&oq=
10. I think I'll get a original VW tank as they're cheep enough but I would love any spare water hoses you have! This is the one I need... 191121051R I think it's PG/g60 specific but I'll take it anyway if you have it.
11. go the whole hog and re-plaster it. sand smooth and give it a nice coat of emulsion
12. I quite like when you get news reels lacquered to certain panels. Once saw a red Mk1 golf with the wing covered in copies of the beno that looked quite cool. Might look odd over the whole bonnet though
13. I LOVE bable fish translators. I wish we all spoke like this. Fair play getting back in the corrado game mate, Welcome to the forum!
14. Howdy folks, Nice weather this weekend so I decided to take the time to remove the front of the car. There seems to be alot more wrong than I first envisaged... :( started by removing the head lights and the fogs. The screws that hold the glass fogs in are fudged and so was the drives side head light centre screw so it took a while to get to the picture above. Ended putting a screw driver through the back of the drivers side head light in order to get it off... I've got a spare though so its all good! :) Anywho, next came the bumper revealing the problems that i already knew about. The pas pipes and and the radiator support panel are monkeyed, will need replacements. I have a spare power steering rack but the rad panel I have is from a early 16v. I think it will fit on to my front cross member but I don't think it has the holes for the pas pipes to fit through so I'll have to drill a few holes but that's no big deal. So long as the radiator and stuff fit I'm happy! (advice would be welcome!) Anywho, I carried on removing things.... The radiator is leaking badly so i'm getting a pattern replacement. I was going to buy a brand new one from VW classic parts but at £260 ish I could buy 2 pattern replacements for £100 each and still have money to spare! So who cares if it only lasts half as long! I'll get something sorted when it does! Regardless of the new radiator though I thought i had already diagnosed the reason for the radiator fan not working very bad corroded connections. But in the process of removing the rad I saw something rather shocking... It's difficult to see from this photo but i've highlighted the problem in a red circle. The fan is touching the fan cover preventing it from turning, after removing the radiator i find that this is because the fan cove has been bent, as if it's been pulled towards the fan at some point. Now... the fan worked when I first got the car and apart from this weekend the only time the radiator has been out was when my subframe collapsed and i had it fixed by my local garage. SOoo.. either it was damaged when the subframe broke and was never spotted OR they damaged it when removing the engine to repair the subframe. Either way, I'm not particularly chuffed. And to top it off when jacking up the car i noticed that the engine moved quite a bit... And here's why! That's the front engine mount. :bonk: OH WELL! onwards and up wards!
15. Cough cough..... kjet Cough cough....
16. well, I could always do with a pint if you or cazza fancy the trip! In other news I have a new shopping list for VW now that i've seen what needs to be done... New rad expansion tank - 1H0121407A Lower water hose - 191121051R and a variety of stainless steel spring clips and screw clips (almost every one on the car is rusted up good)
17. agree with monkey... but why would you choose not to use the ISV if it was working?
18. will be in 3 weeks but it may be more Wiltshire/Gloucester area. I'm staying at a pub in the Cotswold and unfortunately I'm getting a lift down so I'll be stuck at the pub ALL WEEKEND... What a shame!
19. Yeah... and marmalade... I'd rather have a slice of Lardy Cake though :hic: I miss Oxforshire and Wilts... will be down in a few weeks though so that will be nice! Tell you what, I'll get you some dundee cake if you can get me some lardy cake!
20. yeah... It's called SCOTTISH WEATHER and no garage :(
21. Indeed! funny to think that if this had been found on the cills or something important it might well have written off the car! but as it happens all the rust seems to be just on this panel! :D
22. rust is very bad on that panel but the front cross member and the rest of the car look ok tbh Yeah, they do but they are very similar looking. Was interested to see what the differences were on early models. If It's just a few holes then i could live with that! I know the g60 rad is a very particular size for the g60 so it could be the same for the rad support panel... But if i can make it fit then that would be ace! I think the thing to do is to lift the Engine up and get the panel out and compare it to the one I have... See the differences. You might be right there... The apron bit is what worries me the most though boost. I need that to fit the spliter too! I'll keep your kind offer in mind though, If the 16v one i have in the shed doesn't fit I may well be in touch! :)
23. Advice on the radiator panel above would be welcome! Will a early 16v rad panel fit?
