  1. Cheers! I work in London so car tends to only get driven at weekends. I'll go for a decent spin and see how things shake down.
  2. Did you get to the bottom of this Shaggy? I have a similar "ticking" from my engine. Perhaps it's because they are both Red?
  3. Cleared the codes at the weekend. Went for a spin round the block (half a mile) Rescan - no codes. Guess it takes a while for them to register ------------------------------------------------------------ Wednesday night Fit new MAF (hooray perhaps I CAN make a career as a mechanic?) And the car actually runs after I've finished. Ran the engine for a few mins - couldn't be bothered to move the cars around as it's been a hell of a day at work - grabbed the cables and did a quick scan. Now I'm getting 533 and 513 - Idle speed regulation (intermittent) and Engine speed sensor. Am I right in saying I actually need to take it for a decent run to generate the codes for any real faults?
  4. Thanks for the input guys and gals. I think the keep it standard idea is the best in the long term, for me at least. I do not have the skills to do this myself, therefore not the money to get a top quality install professionally done. So I will be getting a local VW specialist (Tutts of Dorking) to have a look. I will definitely be having a new MAF and exhaust and then see what else needs sorting.
  5. You can get a remanufactured MAF for the VR6 from EuroCarParts for about £80 - that might sort the problem. Or the BOSCH ones come in nearer £250 / £300. VW told me that the MAF they supplied is no longer available.
  6. Now on the list of potential first cars for my daughter along with Fox, Lupo, Polo, or a low power / older Golf. She doesn't quite grasp the fact she is going nowhere near my VR6 or the R32! My first car was a burgundy Polo (EUD 69V) that was less than a litre engine if I recall - was SOOOOOO long ago now - but it was mine and it was great (until I ran into the back of a 5 series). (and now we know where your forum name came from)
  7. Get one of these (assuming you can get within 10 metres) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Extension-Active-Repeater-Please-receieve/dp/B002MMO5EQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315292631&sr=8-1
  8. With my delivery they sent me a mini CD with the drivers for the cable and the installation files for the shareware / freebie version. That should be all you need.
  9. If your socket under the gear stick gaitor is the big fat (ODB2) one then this is all you need. If you have the older (ODB) connectors, one little black one and one little white one, then you need the second cable to go with the main one. Make sense?
  10. I was tempted by those but ended up getting one of these http://www.lonelec.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_7&products_id=22 and these http://www.lonelec.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=28&zenid=hrg8l9d5v63pgsrvp912fiehv6 instead. I needed the second cable because I've got the older "2+2" connection. It came with drivers, copies of install files for VCDS-Lite and decent instructions. Ten minutes after receiving the delivery I'm scanning with no problems. Can also clear codes (if you scan individual areas rather than autoscan). I have nothing bad to say about what you were looking at as I never actually bought it but these cables from this company work perfectly for me. Thanks to buttles for pointing me to this company rather than a random eBay seller.
  11. Extremely kind offer - I have just ordered one online. Looks like it is very old so I reckon a new one will be of benefit anyway.
  12. As my existing one looks like it's been there ages I have just ordered one of these http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_2.9_1993/p/car-parts/engine-parts/fuel-and-engine-management/engine-management-sensor/?434440481&1&ab85357232d8374c54fe55678ed46cac043da194&000009 . £80 with discount code PCP25 !! ---------- Post added at 10:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:53 AM ---------- I will bear this offer in mind - thanks!
  13. The Phirm - I can see what looks like them in Hook (Hampshire) which is only 40 miles from me. I'll give them a shout then.
  14. Yikes - I guess I was kidding myself on the costs. Would be more sensible to sell up and buy a GTI or an R32 at that rate, although then it wouldn't be a Corrado which would make it a bit pointless. So, it's a case of get the MAF, the Lambda, the exhaust and maybe the valves or whatever is making the noises sorted out. Any recommendations for a trustworthy garage near Epsom? Or is there a forum member who wants to earn some cash?
  15. I am a bit torn on what to do. Seeing a few fault codes (MAF / Lambda) and engine is a bit noisy. I have got the DG cams in there and the DG map, I've done chains, clutch and all the associated little bits so don't really want to throw that lot away as I have an investment in the existing VR6 engine. Wondering what I'm looking at in terms of costs on the engine and associated bits. Think I might need some new internals - tappets, lifters, valves, etc - it's all a little bit of a mystery to me I must confess. I can't diagnose what's up by listening . . . . Then I stumbled on Storm Developments website offering R32, R36 and 2.0 TFSI conversions. Obviously this isn't going to be cheap (I'll find out tomorrow what the costs are) but I quite fancy that. However, need to understand the implications - Insurance is obviously going to change as it's now "modified" but wondering what else is likely to be involved. I've upped the brakes so would hope they would be up to the job, suspension was freshened up. Would the power be too daft for my little 15 inch wheels? Do I need a new exhaust (I need one anyway)? Do I need a new clutch? Gear box? If, for example, the conversion costs £3k all in then that's quite a big chunk of cash but I imagine it would be amazing vehicle - classic looks but with modern reliability and performance! And in theory no more to spend on the engine for lots and lots of miles and therefore a fair few years. But if I can sort my issues out for, say, £1k and know for sure the engine isn't going to give me any more bother then that would be good too. The only people I would trust to honestly appraise my engine would be DG Autotech but for me it is a PITA to get there for a diagnosis, then leave the car for the required time to resolve. I have heard mixed reviews for local specialists (I'm near Epsom in Surrey) and although I am happy to spend for a good job, I don't want to be "done" by someone taking advantage. I know at the end of the day I have to just plump one way or the other but I'd be interested in opinions / experiences to assist with the decision.
  16. Got up to temperature this morning then parked up and unplugged the connector to the MAF and the engine carried on running the same - just a slight change in engine note when plugging in / unplugging.
  17. Thanks swiftkid - it's running pretty rough at the moment. Will have a go over the weekend. Good tip on the VCDS-LITE. "Resetting the ECU" - what does that entail? I have a DG map but assume it's just a sort of reboot rather than a reset to factory default rest?
  18. Scanned with VAG COM and I find VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.1 Thursday, 01 September 2011, 20:49:13. Also - can the shareware version clear codes? I'll have a better look at the weekend but thought I'd ask.
  19. Scanned with VAG COM and I find VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.1 Thursday, 01 September 2011, 20:49:13. Is it the sort of thing an idiot (like me) can unplug and replace?
  20. VAG COM Cables have arrived. Can't wait to get home to plug in and find out what's going on! Although that might be bad news. What's the code for your car is a money pit?
  21. Shiny!! I am such a wuss - I would never take sand paper to my paintwork!
  22. Took the VR6 through the 79,000 mile mark on Bank Holiday Monday. I sometimes look at other cars as potential replacements but I keep coming back to say that they are not Corrados - I really do love it! Must get round to giving it a REALLY good clean, polish and wax though.
  23. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
  24. I've never tried any fuel additives as I have always thought they must be "snake oil" or "unicorn horn" but there must be something to be said for the more reputable ones (like Wurth). My right foot is not VERY heavy really.
