  1. Yikes , that's the no claims gone! :pale:
  2. What springs have you used? Again not looking to lower the ride.
  3. So, if you can't get stock suspension anymore, what do you use instead? I'm going to have to replace mine at some point and am not that interested in dropping it on coilovers - speed bumps galore around my way plus pot holes by the dozen.
  4. Pedal rubbers for the Corrado - I assume they are the same as several other models but does anyone know which ? Golf MK2/3 ?
  5. Another angle on the S4 Avant http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=94888&p=1092375#p1092375
  6. All those who pointed at a dead or near dead battery take a bow. A new battery and all is well in the world again!
  7. Towed it to the garage for a new starter motor (or whatever it needs) to make it start again. Had great fun when the rope parted and the wife disappeared a hundred yards up the road before she noticed I wasn't there anymore. Luckily some young lad helped us push it the remain 150 yards to the garage. Youth of today not all bad after all!
  8. Thanks chaps - I'm afraid a combination of work, lack of common sense and time have meant it's over to the garage. I can cope with them finding a loose wire and laughing as they charge me an hour of labour. I almost hope it is the starter motor gone!
  9. After giving the battery a charge I'm back to the clicking. So, off the the garage.
  10. Getting absolutely nothing from the starter motor now. Time to drag it to the local garage again. I could ask the wife to tow me 135 miles to DG Autotech but I hate to hear her use foul language.
  11. I've had a new cam shaft position sensor and a new crank shaft position sensor already this year - how many sensors does one engine need for heaven's sake?
  12. Update and still not starting! I now have two proper, really tight battery connections having sourced new bolts and nuts to secure the cable clamps on the battery terminals. Charged the battery for a few hours and now I get rapid clicking when turning the key. Stuck it in third gear and rocked it back and forth a bit then tried starting it again and now not even the clicking. Sooooooo, is this a stuck / broken starter motor? Or perhaps an ignition switch that has decided to retire?

  14. It is indeed as you say - the clamp has a V shape that is closed by the nut having a reciprocal V shape which when tightened up using the bolt will close the clamp nice and tight. Problem I now have is that trying to make the connections really secure and only having one of the correct nuts I have now got the rapid clicking sound that suggests the battery connections are not tight enough and to quote Crazy Dave from DG Auto tech "Cranking need 4-500amps! Loose terminals will float when loose and cause the connection to break down. By float I mean they create a huge magnetic field that makes the terminals separate" So until I can find the right nut I am stuffed. Tried Halfrauds this evening (only place open when I get home) and they have not got the right thing. Bought two replacement battery connectors but they look sufficiently different for me not to dig myself further into trouble. :( Guess I'll post something in the wanted section for a nut!
  15. Ah - I get you. I'll have a look this evening and check that out!
  16. I had a dodgy starting episode which appears to have been down to a loose battery connection. Thing is, all other cars I've bothered to look at in the past have had cables with clamp connectors that go around the post on the battery and are like thisQ859[1].jpg[/attachment:33sxoptj] where the nut and bolt used to secure the connection operate in the horizontal plane. The one on the Corrado (mine at least) has a nut and bolt operating in the VERTICAL plane and as the nut was missing and has been replaced by the nearest thing I had to hand - a basic nut - I'm not convinced it is really a great improvement. Are the nuts and bolts used a special thing? Should I just replace both connectors with new ones anyway to be safe? Thanks
  17. Love it! Driving in the rain at night is great fun!
  18. having it nicely warmed up, coming off your favourite roundabout in 2nd and then booting past someone in a brand new car that cost over ten times the price. And the noise. And the look I got from a guy in an R8 Spyder when I let him out in traffic. He seemed more impressed with my car than I was with his . . .
  19. Update from this evening. Started fine this evening for the four short journeys. Noticed the MFA had reset itself at the time the problem occurred this morning - trip meters, avg fuel and clock all reset. Popped bonnet to check the battery connections which looked fine although on the red one (see how technical I am!) the bolt that tightens the lead connection to the battery terminal was loose as in no nut to attach it to. by no means loose enough to have become disconnected but not right. Found an ordinary nut and did it up. All a bit odd.
  20. Possibly a bad / loose battery connection? Perhaps slamming the door in frustration joggled things sufficiently to make good contact once more? Aplogies for the vageness of details but it was half six this morning and I was in a hurry.
  21. as far as I am aware the ignition switch is original - so 17 years young
  22. Typical - I need the car today so I get in this morning, turn the key and A RRrrrrrrrr, A RRRRrrrrrrr, A rrr, A rr, click, click click - :censored: Puzzlement! Had charged the battery last weekend so that was all good . . .. Went back in the house for two minutes to change shoes to push the car off the drive so the Mrs can get her car out later. I try once more just in case and NO PROBLEM! Starts absolutely normally! Not 100% sure what it could be although 2nd time I unlocked the car and put the alram in Valet Mode to stop it re-alarming / immobilising itself. Don't think that's it as when it's immobilised I don't think it even clicks on the key turn. Starter motor on the way out?
  23. I had some similar symptoms 6 months ago where it started, then limped along for a bit then refused to go more than ten yards. Engine would rev like mad then die even with the foot planted to the floor. Diagnosis - crank position sensor. That sorted, it was good as new and the part was only about £30. Good luck but surely a Beamer isn't too bad . . .
  24. Let me know when you want to drop them off Stu - really keen to get them on!
