  1. L948 P?? - Aqua blue VR6 - SNAP!!. Followed you for about a mile on the way home. Around Sunbury Surrey. So that's what my car looks like from behind!
  2. My C has an immobiliser that satisfies my insurance policy but has no alarm or remote locking. I want a cheap alarm that will give me remote full closure without the expense of replacing what I've already got. Any recommendations?
  3. Does anyone know of any C's in Aus? They never sold them there.
  4. If he's not selling then the post is in the wrong section surely :)
  5. Yep - seems to be the consensus - I'll be trying the skim (after all it is free) then I'll be paying a visit to GSF (just down the road). The bearing is also getting replaced as I'm sure it's nearly toast. Are the bearings (I'll be doing fronts and rears shortly) a GSF or stealer only part?
  6. Scenario - I get brake judder when the brakes are warm. I have narrowed it down to the drivers front disk as it has a sqeak when the brakes are not on and there is much more brake dust on that wheel. There is no judder when slowing down with the handbrake. The disks are fairly recent (last 8 months). I am also hoping it is caused by the new disk going onto a dirty hub (mentioned in another link). I have read on the forum that a warped disk is caused by a change in the disk when it gets hotspotted. A mate of mine can skim the disks for me for nicks Question 1: Is skimming the disks likely to cure a warped disk? Question 2: Do I have to skim disks as a pair if the FNS is OK?

    Wet Carpet!

I also have the optional swimming pool in the front passenger well. I haven't had a chance to start to look at it but it was after a trip in torrential rain and I do know I have an inner wheel arch trim missing on the nearside front so that can't help. With nearly 9 months of dry weather and then the downpours we've had I wouldn't be at all surprised if some seals have dried up and perished. I'll also be providing some lunchtime carpark entertainment as I look for the cause on mine. I hope it is just a few leaves blocking up some drains. Can anyone give a price on an inner wheel arch trim for a VR6? [holds breath] Glad to hear the seat and carpets should come out OK. I'll then practice some fatsex - sprinkle it with flour, look for the wet patch and plug it with something  !
  8. Were heated mirrors fitted to most C's? I have a '94 VR6 - what are the chances?

    Speed Sensor

That would be a good test for the speed sensors on the wheels. The sensor that is probably causing me grief is the engine speed sensor. Thanks for the tip anyway.
  10. Mine does exactly the same except for the sqeal when braking moderately (slight squeak just disappears). It seems to me that the judder is only present when the brakes warm up (it takes longer to start juddering when it's cold and wet) I'm pretty sure it is only my drivers side front that causes the prob. The guy who had the car before me said the brakes and disks had been done in the last 6 months (which appears to be the case). This (and looking through the forum) has led me to think (hope) that the hub may not have been cleaned properly before the new disk went on. Or is it 'once warped, always warped'... I'd love to hear if there is a cheaper solution than just replacing the whole lot (again).

    Speed Sensor

A man after my own heart. I just need to to find a shop that sells extra hours for my days!

    Speed Sensor

Do these sensors always fail completely or can they sometimes just need a clean. If it's intermittant (which it would appear to be) then maybe it's a dodgy wire to the sensor??

    Speed Sensor

Thanks, That helps. and as for I know, I know. However I have a very good full history on the car and wanted a stamp in my book as I will have to sell it again next year when I head back down under (go Wallabies! :D - that's put a stop to the help I get here when we win the cup! Doh). I also wanted the ECU interrogated (and have since found a contact for that thanks to this forum) I'm more than capable of doing most repairs myself, and will be doing them once I know what all those repairs are. Thanks again for all the helpful posts (and even some of the unhelpful and amusing ones)

    VR Sump Gaskets...

This sounds a little familiar. I have a slight oil leak on my VR and it sometimes takes a while to start when damp and cold (but mainly damp). Could they be related? Where is the Engine speed sensor located?
  15. And how many volts does it require to make an accurate diagnosis? ie Does the engine have to be running? 13+ volts?

    Speed Sensor

Yep that was kind of my reaction too. Any more posts on timing sensors on the VR6 - cost or if they can be cleaned etc? I think I'm going to get the service stamp and retreive my car. They've reported on a whole list of other things that need doing but I won't be leaving it with them to do the work.
  17. Can anyone tell me if the VAG COM diagnostics just report on faults each time it is run or does it keep any history of faults?

    Speed Sensor

I have just put my car in for a service and they are telling me that the computer reports a bad speed sensor and this is stopping the car from running. They want to replace the battery (I've had my suspicions about the battery anyway.) They reckon the speed sensor will cost me about £100 to fit and the same for a battery. Can all you in the know tell me if I am being led up the garden path? Many thanks in advance.
  19. My premium is £447. But then my car is standard and I have full no claims. Still not bad for greater london. My premium actually dropped by adding my wife's name on the policy.
  20. Metal clips wrap over the end cable casings. I used a flat bladed screw driver to lever them off and they were pressed back on using my fingers. You should be able to work it out by looking at them.
  21. I think the sensor on my VR6 is located on a beach somewhere sunny - always reads hotter than it is here.
  22. This is the post you want ... http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewto ... 7931#47931 (assuming it's the late model controls you have)
  23. Excellent post. I've just done mine (in my lunch break at work) with the aid of this post. Only thing to add is that it's not necessary to remove half the dash before you realise that the front facia of the controls just pops off to reveal the screws that hold it in place. (as if you'd do that!! ) I had my stereo out at he same time which gave much more room to get a hand in behind the controls also. With mine the cable that controls the face/feet part doesn't travel the whole distance so I'll have to get at the other end of it - any more tips on accessing the other end of the cable? Thanks again for the tips. :D
  24. My drivers side front bearing is droning (being replaced next week) and I have a slight squeak from the brakes that goes when they are applied lightly. I'm pretty confident it is the "new disks on dirty mounts" problem suggested elsewhere in the forum (and hopefully not a warped disk) as the guy I bought it from had the brakes done a short while ago. Not sure if this helps at all but a bearing going definitely "drones".

    Extra MFA info.

Yep - all I get is MFA 1 1. Momentary fuel consumption 2. Oil temperature 3. Ambient temperature MFA 2 (or is that Sweet FA2 ) same as MFA 1 Where is the pick up for the ambient temp. located? I think my is located in the tropics somewhere as it doesn't give the temp around my car! (my car's cooler than that! 8)
