i honestly wouldn't like to say if its weld-able or not without seeing it in the flesh, is there good clean metal around it, a pic would help?

the bushes are metal encased, i would definitely remove them for welding, as i cant see them doing anything other than compromising the weld quality if left in place, also you'd probably weld them in - and they are hard enough to remove as is :)

the axles are usually pretty solid, again judgement call.

cost wise - what you plan on doing yourself?

I think it will be years before they appreciate a significant amount, as despite the rave reviews - and unlike the golf - they were never popular at the outset, so why should they be popular as a collectible.

i actually don't know how to test springs, i guess its a recovery test of some sort!

uprated springs probably a question for guys who have taken the vr6 further tuning wise, certainly i looked at them too and solid lifters, but I don't think valve float is an issue usually, but then i guess they make them for a reason, imo i though money was best spent on other things.

Where is the best place to buy them from? Missed out on some that were being sold on ebay, set of 6 was £78.

 

Not sure what to send off to get done at a specialist and what to do myself, is there much machine to be done apart from skimming the head, are the valve guide best left to someone else?

 

Is lapping the valves something i can do? Does anything need doing to valve seats?

I got my guides from ECP, my valves were fine so reused them.

See second post for what i'd suggest you do and what you get a machine shop to do.

lapping valves by hand is possible but will likely take an age, get a machine shop to do them.

wish i still had my first 16v still too, burgundy with the wur mod and kstar piggy back chip, great wee motor.

i recall i had to adjust the rear box hanger slightly too, nothing major, something like rotating it through 180 degrees or similar. system fits perfect in bumper notch and no knocks.

you need to check valve stem wear with a micrometer, visually they look fine, but its stem thickness that should be checked before reusing. exhaust side wear worse than inlet.

can't see why an ultra sonic wouldn't work the carbon build up off.

I see same on iPad as I do on laptop, and similar to Henny, a mixture of boxes with jpeg image icon, file name and viewsi brackets. For my own uploads I just get 'rado.jpg' link.

You need a dial bore indicator to check for oval cylinders, not too expensive and handy bit of kit for checking end float and suchlike.

seriously beginning to consider one of these going by the rave reviews of induction noise alone.

really interesting, imagine the tuning potential... and the number of wrecked engines due to valve/ piston interference!

yeh two person and earth on manifold, or buy some bulb spark testers or similar from halfords if your on your own

all my starting problems were nearly always fuel related, there's a heap of wee sensors on the 16v that fail over time, a combination of failures can make infrequent starting difficult.

i'm still getting this issue, files just won't appear as images in the thread, not if attachments or via link to photobucket.

i must have 100plus images on the members thread, is there a limit of something?

Check for spark too lad. 16vs can be buggers to start when they've been stood a while.
