  1. Very enjoyable, looks like it was a proper restoration and a decent back story to the cars. I have to admit I was waiting for him to bend it round a skip when he was badly hooning round that industrial estate!
  2. If you remember the Corrado I spotted at the classic car auction which sold for £2730, seems to have resurfaced on everyones favourite auction site: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-CORRADO-16V-/261449963168?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cdfa1d6a0 Shame it went to a trader and not an enthusiast. Dougie
  3. On the C, removed the bonnet stay to "de rust", Jammed a brush in to hold it up and trashed my pristine "no longer available" bonnet sound proofing! Not on the C, first car was a triumph spitfire, while admiring its smooth tickover with the bonnet up, leant over to check something and placed my hand on the distributor cap. Woke me up! On my Mk1 Gti, was transferring it from my house to get painted. Had removed the bonnet latch and went down the road to the paint sprayer.....boom, bonnet flew up smacked the roof. Man with spanners is a dangerous thing. Dougie

  5. I hope you mean its the car that's going to break this week and not you bud! No worries, will speak to you soon.# Dougie
  6. James, Thanks, I think I have sourced one from Doodles. I will keep you in mind if it doesnt work out though. Dougie
  7. Good luck in the new venture. It will be an amazing time for you all. Funny you are worried about how your wife and son will get on, I have a friend that went to Australia for a number of years and it was actually him that failed to settle properly. His wife actually had the time to befriend other mums in the street etc. Dont worry about the price of Corrados, I still reckon in 5-6 years time, mint ones will still be well under 10k. (Ducks as this will no doubt be resurected to prove me wrong at some point!) Plus you will always be able to come back to the sunny west coast for some much deserved rain every now and again. Dougie
  8. Its been ages since I have added to this, and to be honest, I haven't really added to it at all! I have been busy with the car and have been enjoying driving it since September last year. I will be a bit more active with this and not be lazy and put write ups and pictures as I go along. Car required some welding for its MOT, mainly at the jack point at the front on both sides and at the seat belt mounting points behind the front seats. New discs and pads were put on as well, but apart from that it went through it's MOT. Since then I have been fixing problems (mainly maintenance items along the way. Clutch slave cylinder was first to go, not surprising as the car had been sat for approximately three years, interesting drive home with no clutch! Uprated Headlight loom fitted from one of the suppliers on here and the difference is incredible, highly recommended mod. Heater blower motor started the "only working on speed 4" thermal fuse bought and soldered in, but unfortunately the blower motor packed in shortly after (during the cold snap of course!) So new one purchased and fitted et voila heat again. Fast forward to the last couple of weeks and a few things started to go south on it again. Front wheel bearing replaced and both rear wheel bearings and discs/pads replaced also. This weekend saw the old rear suspension units removed and new bilstein B4s fitted, the pictures below show the new discs and pads (excuse the yellow calipers!) And the old: Starting to gather a few parts that still need to be fitted, complete sunroof from a MK3 as slide only on mine. Complete rear beam to be cleaned and repainted then refitted with all new parts on car. Complete aqua blue tailgate to replace mine as there are some rust issues around the seams behind the rear lights. That's me up to date, no pictures of the car as its manky! But externally still exactly as it was, so I'm still standing by my mantra of keeping it standard. Dougie
  9. You were spot on Kempy, a few things seem to have bust the estimate. The Corrado sold for £2730. Pretty healthy money, but could be a nice little buy for whoever won it. Dougie
  10. I suppose Jim but they're not too bad Can always dream I suppose
  11. To be fair bud if you look at the february results: http://www.angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/results-january-2014.aspx Their not too far off the mark, and noticed there was a VR at that that sold for £1300 Dougie
  12. I know, love the stories attached to old cars. Some of the money those mercedes "pagodas" are doing is incredible, but there is something really modern about the front end of them. Timeless. Thats why you cant beat old cars for class. Still think the Corrado is a genuine one the more I look at the pictures. Dougie
  13. Nice little C for sale tomorrow at this auction. Looks a solid original example: http://www.angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/saturday-5th-april-2014.aspx You need to scroll down to the bottom as its in alphabetical order by marque (I have no connection with this firm or owner, just stumbled on it while dreaming about TR6's!) Dougie
  14. I just went through all this a couple of weeks ago. Seems all my bearings decided to do one at the same time. A front became really noisy, got that changed and lo and behold the backs were drumming away nicely too. Got a set from Euro Car parts, bought the SKF ones and fitted new discs and pads while I was there. The whole "hand tight" thing with the hub nut was really disconcerting, but I must stress to check them after a few hundred miles as they need to be nipped up a bit. Really need to add all this nonsense to my "members car" thread. Hope you get it sorted Dougie
  15. Good man doodles, I have sent you a private message. Dougie
  16. Anymore details Sean? I havent sourced anything yet, obviously doodles wont have had time to see my reply yet, so Im still looking for one. Whereabouts are you? would you mind posting? If you want to send me a pm, we can talk offline and maybe you could take some pics of the condition it is in? Many thanks Dougie
  17. Brilliant doodles, keep me in mind when you come to do it. I am not looking for a a big cut, probably only 4 or 5cm around the hole on the flat of the quarter panel (if that makes sense?) However I do need it to be either rust free (no chance!) or surface rust only, no rot. Let me know, Dougie
  18. I agree Jim, its never nice when someone has a deal go sour, but I think, in general, the folks on here handle themselves fairly well. Ps Clumpy did you get my PM? Dougie
  19. Ah no worries, it was the bodywork around the filler, thanks anyway though.
  20. Hi mate, long shot as your breaking it due to rust issues, but what condition is the fuel filler surround in? The section that is part of the rear quarter and the rubber gaiter sits on. Dougie
  21. Hi bud, what condition is the fuel filler surround in? Dougie
  22. Hi Folks, Im looking for a good condition section cut from a rear quarter, preferably rust free, although as long as it is surface rust only, it will be getting rustproofing applied before paint. Would also require it to be posted as I live in Stirling, Scotland. Many thanks Dougie
  23. PS Clumpy, you asked a question in your post, where is the question mark? ;)
