Advice required please on Shock absorber fitting
corrado wannabe replied to corrado wannabe's topic in Drivetrain
Thanks Jim, The plan was to torque it up with the Tourque wrench on the Hex end as you say. Its just trying to get a spanner that will hold the nut in the recess. I have managed to fudge it a bit by holding the nut (badly) with a normal spanner while turning the hex, but I dont think I have got it anywhere near as tight as it needs to be. I bought a 22mm spanner from Halfrauds, but it wasnt up to the job. -
After spending 12 hours changing a shock absorber, ball joint and track rod end. I was rapidly losing the love! Before I start the other side, what is the correct (ie easiest and proper tool) for loosening and tightening the top nut on the shock absorber? I cannot make out how the laser tool for the job works. I get the one with the slot for tightening the collar nut, but the three piece set they sell I cant understand how it works. As far as I can see the 22mm nut sits so deep in the top plate that any normal offset spanner wont do, also it requires a 7mm Hex key to hold the Shaft on the shock from turning while tightening the nut. What have you used, and how did you get the nut to the correct torque if you used a spanner? Dougie

I am trying to get a handle on how much something is worth. I have a full set of genuine, never been retrimmed Series 1 Golf Gti black tartan interior. The drivers side bolster is worn (usual) although I have a spare set of series 1 fronts that I can use the bolster from the passenger seat to replace. I have removed the base from one seat to see the condition of the material on the inside as the tartan has faded to a light green shade. As expected the colours are strong and as they should be. No rips or tears, and the tilt mechanisms work as they should. Subframes are excellent and not broken or bent. How much do you think they are realisticaly worth? And do you think it would be better to get them professionaly turned etc before selling, or sell as is? All thoughts greatly appreciated as always. Dougie

They seem a quite interesting company, has anyone considered them for the roof mouldings? I cant get my head around whether they manufacture parts themselves or whether it is off the shelf stuff they have from VAG group? Let us know how you get on with them when they arrive Michael. Im very interested in these also. Dougie

Have you checked the fluid level? I would assume if there is something wrong with either the slave or master cylinder, it would be with the seals and you would have a noticeable drop in fluid. Prior to mine failing I had a small amount of oil seeping of the bottom of the bell housing before the pedal went straight to the floor. But its the fact that the pedal feels normal that makes me think its not the hydraulic side of things. If there had been some failure with the rod or seals on the slave cylinder in the bell housing, you would not feel the normal pressure through the pedal as it engages the clutch. Good luck with it though

Some nice driving there, looks like great fun. You seem to have very minimal steering input which is good. I had a LOL at the Evo eating itself at 2.48! Surprised the gearbox outlasted the engine! Dougie

So the current list of jobs is as follows: New front suspension, track rods, bushes etc. Scuttle foliage seal Sunroof cassette Rocker cover gasket New spark plugs, Rear and front subframe for restoration. All sitting in the garage waiting to be done. On the home front; 40mt fence to be painted, bark chippings, etc etc etc. But in my mans brain I have just went and bought a revel model of a golf gti from LIDL, because someone on the internet (here!) told me they were for sale. Dougie Obviously I have plenty of time on my hands to fit in building a model of a car I owned 20 years ago.

Anyone up for a mini meet/run/day out?
corrado wannabe replied to corrado wannabe's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Yes been to it a few times, didn't attend last year but met with some of them at the convoy at Stirling services in the corrado. Might see you there then although it will most probably be in the Audi rather than the Corrado. Dougie -

Anyone? Or is it just going to be me and Jamo?!! No road racing involved tho! -
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone would be up for a mini meet and take the Corrados out on a wee jaunt through the countryside? The day I had in mind was the 3rd May. There is an Audi meet that takes place at Crieff visitor centre on that day (I have been to a couple in the past) and although we would not be part of that, we could just park in the back car park after we had maybe met and went a run somewhere. A couple of years ago a few guys from the Mk1 Golf owners club turned up by chance, and there was a pretty good reception from the larger meet, with people wandering round to see some older metal. I really am open to suggestions about where to meet up or go the drive to etc, was just putting the feelers out to see if anyone is interested. Open to all, of course, but just conscious that there are quite a few Scottish members around at the moment. Thoughts?? Dougie

HAve you looked at changing both the foliage seal on the cover that protects the Heater motor. Pollen filter is also located in there too. There is a write up on how to change it here: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/changing_heater_scuttle_foliage_cover_seal.html Dougie
