  4. Hi all, Looking for some advice, I am going to be buying new Bilstein B4 fronts, but have been told there are two available. One being for plus suspension and the other for base (or narrow track) suspension. Is the general rule of thumb that all plus suspension is 5 stud? Or are there some four stud (later years) running on plus suspension from the factory? Mine is a 94 (L) 2.0 16V and dont want to assume it is base suspension. Any help, as always, greatly appreciated. Dougie

  6. I have to agree with Jim above, I think the price range you are looking at (a fairly healthy amount btw) is slap bang in the depreciation belt. Unless, as Jim says, you are looking to go a bit older, or a bit more niche I'm not sure whether anything is truly depreciation free until they go just under 10K. I'm sure a few on here will bring up lease deals, it may be that if the terms suit you, it might be something worth considering. Dougie

  9. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get Bilstein B4 shocks that are not just inserts but actually have the strut also? Reason I ask, is I have B4 on the rear and would like to have the same all round, but the struts are very scabby on the front. I don't want to put the car of the road for any length of time while I do the derusting and painting of the strut. Anyone managed to get them supplied like this? If so where from? Many thanks Dougie

  11. That was my thought Sean. It has always been like this since I got the car so pretty sure its historic. I really need to figure out a way of knowing what shape/bend the window frame should have in relation to the rest of the door. Have been trying to rack my brains on a way of measuring with a plum line the passenger door, then comparing the measurement on the drivers (affected) door. I just dont want to go to the bother of this if its just the seal that has blown, and is holding the door out. The joys...
  12. Looking for some advice please, I will eventually get round to posting pictures of it, but hopefully my description will be enough. The door seal (large rubber seal which runs along the top of the door frame and seals against the ruber seal on the body) is stopping the door from closing properly. It appears to be fouling the body at the A post, just above the wing mirror. The door appears to be closing fully on the stricker pin and is sitting flush with the rear quarter panel, it just the top of the door that is being held out. I have looked and I cannot see anything untoward with the seal itself, no rips tears etc. The lines on the door match with the body so I am ruling out the door not being aligned properly. The only thing I can think of is the window frame section of the door has been pulled outward at some point? Anyone got any suggestions before I get a block of woodin between the door and sill and start bending it inward? Cheers Dougie
  13. Lol Sean, I have been rushing out to the garage to get stuff for the missus in the hope that she wont cotton on. However I think she has noticed a pair of wings, two doors and a tailgate lurking! She has however not found the box of new parts still to be put on the car! What are we (men) like! Dougie
  14. You are now finding out that the 16V does in fact have a superior wheel! I know you are saying it is not a connection issue, have you checked that the sapde terminal is not fouling the brass plate? I had this issue when straightening the wheel after suspension work. Dougie
  15. Thats me being optimistic! Just picked a month at random! No time and the wee thing just keeps running and running without any problems. But I really do need to get the finger out, the garage is starting to look like a parts emporioum for the Corrado. (behind the trampolines and bikes and prams......)

  17. Quick question Andy, Do you use any sealant when putting on the gasket? The reason I ask is I have been watching far too much Wheeler Dealers, and it seems to be a favourite of Ed China when putting any gaskets or seals on. Its not something I thought you had to do? Dougie
  18. Glad we could be of help ;-) There is a guide for it on here somewhere that I need to dig out, as I have a shiny VW one waiting in my "new parts still to put on" bin. This seems to be getting fuller as the jobs havent been getting done.
  19. Stuart afraid I dont have the info to hand (at work) but if its any comfort, TMS supplied me with the correct size of belt for my 2.0 9A. Not a guarantee you will get the correct one, but I didnt have to tell them the part number ro belt size/diameter. Hope this helps, Dougie
  20. It just shows how fragile the whole thing can be. I went through something very similar many years ago when I worked with Motorola. Semiconductor industry was flying high and wages were reflecting this. As hard as it sounds, many people working in the industry were relying on the good times lasting forever and living their lifestyle accordingly. Rather than making hay while the sun shone, they were basing mortgages and lifestyle on salary, plus overtime. Dangerous cocktail. As you say Coullstar, the headline figure is the numbers directly employed by the industry, however the huge amount of companies servicing the industry that rely on the business is the real killer. You just have to look at places like East Kilbride when Motorola went, Bathgate when NEC, Motorola went, many people losing well paid full time jobs and going into part time, zero hour contracts. Not good. That said, if your commodity is open to market forces, as hard as it is, I would rather the money my family spends per month on fuel is halved, rather than keep other people in work. The main political issue that seems to be around at the moment, is the distribution of wealth throughout the entire country. This appears to be focused on London, however Aberdeen and Edinburgh (in a Scottish context) appear to be doing the same, and I for one, would not want to see that continue to propped up by Gvt intervention, at my cost and the cost to the rest of the country.
