Cheers Dave, hopefully it'll be back to a decent standard within the next few months - starting tomorrow. Been given permission to spend the day on it, so hopefully electrics will be back to some semblance of order. Only had a couple of hours on it on Tuesday, but dash is all out and wiring ready to be attacked! Also bought a new Matrix from GSF today, I was expecting a Valeo was it? (OE), so bought the Premium one which turned out to be Hella. No bother, still a reputable company so hopefully should be ok. Will pick up some insulation foam and reflective tape from B&Q in the morning too after seeing EnthusiastOwned post on repair, as half the foam is missing on mine so I'll do it all properly before refitting. More pics tomorrow!

VW rule - I'm just going from second hand info tbh, as its all over the mk3 section on GolfGTIForum. I know this as when I bought my old Golf3 it was fitted with a "wet" panel filter, and the MAF was dead so I asked the questions. Its also reported quite alot on there with the 2.0 8v ady/agg engines using different type MAFs as well (siemens/bosch).

I don't think the whole idea was to increase downforce tbh. Its a gimmick that helped sell the car during production imo. Bugger about the difference between early and late though, I picked up an early one yesterday to replace my late one. I'll check it all out tomorrow when I'm with the car again.

DONT get the older type "wet" filter that you have to oil. It will kill your MAF! The newer type K&N panel filters don't require oiling, this is what you want to go for mate.

As title, Contitech Kit bought in May last year to fit the the old valver. Unfortunately in June before I had chance to fit it, the chopper in the Range Rover totalled the car. Been in the cupboard ever since. Box is a little bit worn from storage but not bad at all, parts are all as you'd expect being new. As in pic, paid over £35 from ECP with 25% discount, and offering at £20 to your door! The photocopy of the receipt will be included for you, as the original receipts went with the car when it was broken for parts. Keep an eye on the paintwork the first couple of weeks Pete. I've heard with the cheaper unvented covers, the soft inner fabric retaining moisture and damaging paintwork - alot like if you leave a bonnet bra on for too long. Obviously more of an issue at this time of year with so much moisture in the air.

Mine does it too, but I had put it down to the botched welding that was done......................

Wheels look like Reps tbh. Take one off, should be stamped with Manufacturer, model and PCD on the back of the spoke somewhere.

I did that when removing my headlining! It was working both tilt and slide before starting, after putting it back in, it tilts, but gets stuck sliding, and I've damaged the paint on the sunroof doing it! :censored: Need to investigate that now as well! The light/sunroof controls are different between early and late, but I don't know if they are interchangable or if the wiring is any different, sorry!

What did you find best to get to the hidden bolts behind the scuttle? I'm doing this tomorrow and I'm kinda going in blind having never done it before, but remember reading the two behind the scuttle are a bitch to get at!

Could be a lot of things tbh. Does it turn over or is there nothing? Ignition switch is common and likely if you have nothing. Try wiggling the key in the barrel whilst trying to start it. If its turning over, listen to make sure the fuel pump is priming, as the relay is also a common problem, although an easy and cheap fix. Other than that its a process of elimination, and could be tons of things mate.

All this stripping and cleaning makes me wanna go for it too! Must.................Resist..................and......................prioritise! :lol:

No its cream mate. It separates between the tunnel running down to the front footwells. Its both sides just below the tunnel part thats burnt.

Yeah cover the carpet as well. The muppet that did mine didn't! You can see the pin holes and burns from the weld splatter. The whole car has been proper cowboy'd like this everywhere! Hats off to the bloke that did it though. Theres a village missing an idiot somewhere!
