Well, I'm not gonna lie, am a bit sad to see you go. Like you said, you've been part of the furniture for a long time and since day one in my case. I don't want to sound like a funeral though lol. But it's a shock although I totally get it. I've sold things I said I would never sell as well. I think the main thing is to pass it on to a candidate who you feel good about passing the car. And it looks like you've found that. Take care of yourself and it's been a pleasure. Cheers JF

Thanks JF, I appreciate your sentiment. Us old ones eventually move on to make way for the young blood, with the enthusiasm and energy to take custodianship of a great car and do right by it hopefully. As I said, I'll still be lurking and will offer my input from time to time. This forum feels like a part of me now and its habit checking in pretty much daily! My subscription has not long renewed as well! Lol.

If another Corrado came up at some point not too far away, you never know..... I think a more usable day to day car is where it would be though, and the PD converted one would have been perfect but I'd bought a new daily about a week prior unfortunately! (My commute is 83 miles each way). Something I'd be comfortable leaving outside would be ideal too. I'll have a break for a while, and see where I'm at some point in the future. 👍

Agree. Glad you got what you wanted for it without dealing with dib dobs. Did the man take all your Corrado hoard with him in the sale

Thanks Shaun. Only the extras that formed part of the sale, so I'll have a fair few bits and pieces up over the coming weeks.

  3. Uprated looms are very good and there has been a recent group buy, you're about 5 days too late unfortunately.

Also, it looks like your reflectors are in a pretty poor state which may necessitate refurbishment anyway. Dual metallising are very good, the pair will cost you £180ish returned. You'll obviously need a replacement lens as well as it'll just end up like that before long. The reflector is a very important part of light output and pattern especially, and that will be an MOT fail.

Congrats Sean, hope you do stick around, it's always a shame to see established members move on. Funny thing with the forum though is the community spirit even with those you've never met in person

    👍

  5. Thanks guys, yeah I've been here a while now, part of the furniture like some of you lot I guess! Lol. It's been a journey and there have been some great moments with the car, but it's come to a natural end now I think.

Too cheap, probably - judging by how quickly it sold and with guaranteed two genuine buyers at pretty much full asking price, it suggest so. I don't need the money so could have held out for longer with a higher asking price but realistic selling prices with the mileage were closer to what I asked.

No idea what I'll use the money for Keyo, my forces pension payout is due in June which is pretty substantial, so it was never about cash in pocket but I'm sure the wife already has it earmarked! Lol.

I'll lurk for a while longer no doubt anyway as you never know, I may one day be back! 😆

  6. Deposit taken and buyer should be collecting next Thursday. Sounds like it's going to a good home which I'm very pleased about, a VW Enthusiast so it'll be in good hands.

I actually got a message from the original salesman from 95 as well! He's now an operations manager for one of the VW franchise groups and wanted the car to go into their Heritage collection!!!!!!

Jump back to page one of this thread, and you'll understand why I would have been incredibly proud had it gone that way. I couldn't in good conscience deny the current buyer though as he had first dibs.

So that's pretty much it. I get to drive it one last time as he's collecting from my folks place in Bristol, so a nice little tootle to drop it off on Sunday.  🥺

great result on the steering wheel, some good effort there.  I think the sunroof doesn't actually seal on the outside, it's the inner part of the cassette that does the sealing.  Also, the front does sit lower than the rear, by 2mm - i'll need to check in Bentley to get the proper heights

Yeah sunroof should be 1mm lower than the roof at the front, and 1mm higher at the rear. I think it's to avoid wind noise.

Sounds like the motor is on its way out, as a bit of extra friction caused by the headlining will have an already struggling motor stopping for breath. Definitely worth checking though as if it breaks the panel tends to lift mid movement and scratches the paint. If you can take the panel out on its own and check the movement, that may point you to anything untoward.

I used liquid leather on my wheel too and agree, the photos didn't do it justice from the before and after. Mine wasn't awful, but had gone patchy between Matt and gloss.

Ok took the interior plastic triangle off but not sign of any nut to undo for the exterior part, I take it the three tabs that are visible are holding in the exterior triangle ? or am I wrong...  I don't want to be breaking anything obsolete...does anyone know how the exterior bit comes off ?

It's the button just underneath the right hand side of the triangle in this pic. The button is a screw cover

  9. Some bargains were available around 10 years ago. I bought my first Corrado in 2011, a 1.8 16v that had a ton of engine and gearbox work for £550. I bought a VR6 that needed a bit of work to get roadworthy (not rot) in 2014 for £620, but that only cost a couple of hundred to sort and was a good donor to swap some of my bits too. Lucky to find one close to breaking for £3k now.

Its only the middle one is that the bulb or one of the reflector's yo think ?  I have just noticed my middle does not show the blue and red perimeter ?

The standard dials don't show the blue/red, it's just a feature of the sheet thing I have. I've not looked at my dials yet, strange how it's all 3 so I'll investigate. I have some spares if it's just the lamps, and have a set of MK3 dials which are identical except the direction and speed dials are opposite, so I can use the reflectors if its that.

That's a great list of parts for the MK2 you have there! I don't envy you with finding parts for the three of your cars though mate, that must be a full time job!

Ok, I do envy you a little bit......   😆

So this is how they look with new lenses .

Still a bit pants I see! I've got a fibre optic acrylic sheet type thing for mine. I forget the exact terminology, but there was a group buy a few years back for them and it's perfect. The ring around the heat dial changes from blue to red gradually as it goes round too. Pretty neat and lights up the whole panel much better, you can actually see the top corners.

  12. I don't have any idea about a direct replacement sorry James, but its just 50ohm Coaxial cable so easily snipped off and remade via a connecting piece in the worst case.

I vaguely remember there being a guide on here on how to bypass the amplifier within the aerial, which is usually the cause for poor/no reception. Surprisingly, bypassing it actually provides a better signal apparently. 😳

I think that's a very good way to see this, good decision. I'm pretty sure I've seen in the past NOS cat on ebay from that seller in Latvia but it was pricey!

I went with a standard exhaust system over stainless as well, heard you get drone with stainless steel. I know it won't last as long but it was also 1/2 the cost. Plus I won't drive the car in the rain anyway...

    Keep us posted!

Some drone but most are ok, especially with a resonated system (front silencer). Where did you get a stock exhaust system from? They've been obsolete for a long time over here so stainless is the only real option as I'm not sure if anyone makes custom mild steel systems. There are no real aftermarket alternatives either.
