The stretch bolts are the the fixings between the bottom of the front shock and wheel baring housing, which should always be replaced when replacing shocks as they are torqued up beyond their elastic limit. I got the genuine items from TPS, which come in at 20 quid. I wouldn't even consider using non genuine bolts as these are crucial to safety.

Exhaust fitted. Took a bit of faffing about and very careful positioning of the centre box to get satisfactory clearance over the rear axle, it's very tight there and the clamp has to go on certain angle to get it to work. I would not recommend fitting this system unless you have good mechanical knowledge and either a pit or ramp, I don't think I'd have managed without my pit and a decent dose of patience. Removing the old system was a PITA as for some unknown reason the front box had been welded to the Cat, which took a a bit of sorting with a mini grinder. The new system sounds good, nowhere near as loud as I expected with a nice deep tone, the quality and fit is also very good. But this is not a system that can just be thrown on, the brackets need careful positioning and as I have mentioned correct fitment of the middle box is crucial otherwise there would be clearance issues with the rear axle. Did the tracking and camber on the front, need to take her for a spin tomorrow morning then check it again before I fit the new stretch bolts and do a final torque up of all fixings. Fitted the new headlight switch, vast improvement!!! Totalled up my hours so far and the parts, best your sat down when I give you the total as I've put a lot of time into this car, however it's now like new mechanically and will give you many years of reliable service and enjoyment. Going to spend another few hours on her tomorrow, doing final checks and fitting the new front stretch bolts once I've double checked the camber after a test drive. Just got the door lock and the leather gaiter to do to finish her off a treat. I'm not building tomorrow so I'll have more than enough time to ensure your completely happy with the car. She's a good un all right and having no sunroof is a major plus point in my book. Looks cool, VERY Yellow!!! Is that an original VAG colour? Guessing it's from the 'life style range', what power plant does she have? EDIT- juat looked at your pic's again, take it she's a 2.0 16V? Nought wrong with running a Raddo as a daily, they make fantastic every day cars, far more practical than the sporty body belies. Once my chargers been done my G60 will have been serviced to death so she'?ll be on the road all summer as my daily, going to take her over too the Isle of Mann in late August for the Manx GP, just like the TT but cheaper and a lot less busy with more interesting classes such as classic bikes. Whilst enjoying my fully refreshed Corrado I plan on installing a 6A 2.0 short-stroke Audi botttom end and a skimmed and pressure tested recon KR head I have to hand into my MK II 16v Golf along with some pretty serious suspension and brake upgrades. Stich welding the subframe and wish-bones, using a Corrado anti roll bar with some special home brewed mounts that are MUCH stiffer than standard along with all new poly bushes. Brakes are coming from a 1994 V6 Audi Coupe (280mm) I have all the parts, just need the time. Then when I get a spare Five min's I'll finish the breather system on my S2, which requires some specialist alloy welding to complete, so far it's cost 300 quid in braided hose and AN fitting's alone. I never do half a job, hence why it's taken me Two yearsto get the S2 as want it. I want to leave my G60 as standard as possible, just a few subtly planned mod's to individualise the car to my taste, such as Black badges, OE leather interior trim package ect. I certainly don't plan on tuning it with smaller pully's/chips etc, I like it just as it is. I have the S2 for mental performance and my Golf is no Slough either, should be like a rocket with the 6A! Details and plenty of pic's of both my Corrado and Golf can be seen in this thread on here. http://the-corrado.net/search.php?searchid=1434825 The S2 has a thread over on the S2Forum, link here for those interested in old Audi's http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39279

Found you a lock mate, got no key unfortunately but as your central locking works perfectly from the drivers door it's got to better than no lock at all. As I demonstrated last night, I was in in under Five seconds armed with a small screw driver. Got some high quaility main beam bulbs I'm going to fit along with the uprated dip items you gave me last night. The lamps themselves are in spot on condition, no stone chips or condensation and the reflectors are like new. Will post up some pic's of the exhaust fitted and some other bit's and bob's tomorrow night. I'm not replacing any parts just for the sake of it, I can tell just from bouncing the car that the dampers have done a world of good, she should drive like new as all the bushes and ball joints are in excellent condition, I've fitted new front top mounts to be on the safe side. The current exhaust is beyond economic repair IMO. Still can't believe I'm working on Bonnie Tylers old car, cool bit of history.

Some pic's of Gabriel's new exhaust system from eBay. Looks very well made to me and a bargain for 200 quid! The proof will be in the fitting tomorrow, I've been building today but I have all day tomorrow to devote to finishing off Gab's car. Fitted a new ignition coil yesterday for good measure and there's a pic of how I like my basic tools to be laid out as well as some shots of the car, not enough space in my workshop to do her justice. Got a few cosmetics to do as well as the tracking and camber and she'll be ready to go!!! Gab, you should get the tracking and camber check again in 1K miles time as it will have settled in by then. And some of my daily driver MK II Golf GTi 16V now I've fitted the summer wheels. A correct set of 6"X14" ET 33 BBS RA's, these would have been the original factory option at the time over the OE VAG Alloys. It's a real belter, which I was very lucky to get my hands on!!! 113K miles, FSH, original factory leather in Black, EW, PAS CL and finished in the best colour for a MK II, Oak Green. It was one of the last cars to be driven over to the UK by VAG, as opposed to mass transported. I have the original paper work signed in Germany by some dude, confirming the spec and stating that he is to drive the the car to the UK with care. It's dirty because I use it, ie rag the nuts off it!!! To make a change here's some shots of my S2, the front bumper is in the process of of being modified to clear RS2 the Inter-cooler, hence the missing grill's and lights. Going to get the bumper to fit over the cooler and look OE, as is the plan with the rest of the car. OE looks, old school Audi 20V Five pot Turbo technology combined with 4X4 drive = Super-car performance hidden in an old Audi Coupe. WTB Tatty set of 15" Sebring OE Multi spoke alloy with centre caps.

Yep, Anthracite is the one, love it. Looks black till you get close then you get the depth of colour and slight metallic finish. As long as you keep them clean that is, Anthracite wheels are a pig for showing up the dirt. And no problem, I'll happily arrange for a set to be done for you. With the running round I'd have to do you'd be looking at 25 quid a wheel, I have to take them to the guy and pick them up again a couple of weeks latter and his workshop is in Hereford, 30 miles away from me but I'd try and make it all tie in with work stuff so it's no hassle at all really. He can do lot's of other colours as well, pretty much anything you want. Though, like I've mentioned all he does is blast and powder coat them so any damage needs to be sorted before I give them too him. I got rid of the kerbing on the S2 wheel pictured with a file followed by some 240 grit wet and dry. Did it on the wheel balancer at work, span them up and held the W&D against the rim till I was happy with the finish. Got your PM mate, just let me know when you've got the wheels and we'll sort out a good time to hook up. -
Suspension and brakes done, fitted new front top mounts as the old ones were the originals and pretty much worn out, front bump stops/gaiters were just fine so I reused them. All callipers removed, front pistons freed off and carriers cleaned, pads reinstalled correctly with Copper grease. The rear pad's were fine and both callipers work properly so I left them alone save for greasing the sliders and pad edges. I'm going to order you some new front strut to wheel baring housing bolts tomorrow morning from TPS, I'll have them by 11am. They are stretch items and should be replaced, I'll set the camber up properly after I fit the new bolts. As you can see the exhaust is shagged, for some reason the front box is welded to the Cat, I can sort that though no problem. Any news on the replacement? Looks like I'm sorted for wheels now, thanks Bristolbaron!!!! Got enough to make Two sets of Five, with my existing rims. I just need some extra centre caps now, will consider singles, pairs, set ETC, again what have you got people?? -

So do I, I'll be getting them finished in metallic Anthracite, just like this I get special trade rates and it's only going to set me back 20 quid a wheel, I have to sort out any kerbing and damage first as all he does is blast them and powder coat them for that price. -
I'm in the process of individualising my VERY early Dutch import (LHD) MK I G60, the car is totally original on 70K miles and would be described by most as 'mint'. So far I've subtly made a few changes to the badges and sourced a correct leather OE steering wheel and handbrake handle. For the leather gear gaiter and knob I've custom fitted Audi S2 items as I had them to hand and they look spot on IMO. Details of the car and upgrades can be seen in this thread http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?65661-My-1990-G60-on-65K-miles I don't want to do anything to the car that is not easily reversible, as the long term plan for her is concourse level restoration with the aim of making her a show winning car. She's close now but I need to get a little paint attended to before I'd be happy showing her. The Charger is being rebuilt by JMR next month and I've done absolutely everything else mechanically, right down to changing the brake fluid and gearbox oil. I'm going to get my existing Sebrings refurbished in the the correct VAG Silver so I have a set of show standard wheels. However, being Tornado Red I can't help but feel that a set of the OE 15" Sebrings in Anthracite Black would finish her off a treat along with my Black badges etc. So, what have you got people???????????????????? All I ask is that they are straight and have centre caps, otherwise the condition is not important, I don't care if they have been paited Pink ETC!!!. I will also consider a set with buckles, however they will have to be very cheap as it cost's a fair bit to straighten them out. Cash waiting and I can arrange the courier should they not be within collection range.

Here some pic's of your engine bay now I've had a chance to clean it and do the belts ect. It's in excellent order no leaks or bodge's anywhere.

Yep, I agree. Best leave something so specialist and delicate to a person with plenty of experience. Plus John offers a warranty which is a major plus point in my book. I'm sure Jabba do as well but I've made my decision and I'm going with JMR. Love the condition of your 8V mate, she's got the the makings of excellent example. Right I best get on with it,:thumbleft: I've got enough to keep me busy all weekend with that boot load of parts you have given me.
-
Yeah, I've heard of them but I'd rather use a one man operation like myself (I'm an independent VAG specialist mechanic) as I feel one receives a better level of service. I had a long chat with John yesterday and I've decided to go with him, I like his attitude and general manner. I was very tempted to do it myself as I'd love to have a look at the inner workings. However my time would be better spent working on customers cars and there's no risk of me cocking it up. Going to remove it next weekend. hopefully I can afford to send the unit on to John the week after, I LOVE my Golf MK II GTi 16V but I want the G60 back on the road by the end of May. Got to have it for the summer, going to go over too the Isle of Mann for the the Manx GP from August the 18th - Sept 2, Awesome bike racing and a lot less crowded and expensive then the TT.
-
Corrado now safely tucked up in secure dry storage for a month whilst I get the charger rebuilt by John, got a few little cash job's to do on mates cars that I'm going to use to fund the rebuild and postage expense's as well as proper insurance. When the Corrado went into my unit the MK II 16V Golf came out to play. Forgot how much fun they are, OK, the Corrado is sooooo much more refined, quite and comfortable. Generally a superior car. However the Golf feel's like a rocket powered go kart in comparison, so much more chuckable, it's no quicker than the Corrado but I'd be faster round a track in the Golf. Still, I can't wait to get the charger done, once that's been ticked of the list the car is virtually new, I've done everything else, right down to new brake fluid, thorough coolant system flush followed with new VAG long-life coolant, all new filters, all belts, engine and gearbox oil. All the bushes and shocks/springs are like new, this car has had one seriously easy life. Which is nice.
-
Thanks again. Looks like there's no need to send my charger overseas, I did have a quick look on Google and couldn't seem to find any small business's doing rebuilds in the UK. I'd much rather give my charger to a small one man operation as I feel the level of service is better. All I want is a basic rebuild as I will not be be tuning my G60 with pulley's and chip sets etc, I like it just as it is and I have the S2 to play with which is monstrously powerful. For 300 quid I'd rather give it to one of the guys mentioned above As like I said I can spend the time it would have taken me working on customers cars earning the money to pay for someone who know's what their doing to do the job. Part of me want's to do it myself as I'm very curious to see the inner workings and learn how these units are put together, however I'd be really gutted if I cocked it up. I like the idea of having some sort of warranty as well. ---------- Post added at 11:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:47 AM ---------- Just spoken with John, top bloke, very friendly and helpful. Going to be sending him my charger soon, thanks again for the heads up!
-
Nice one!! I'll give him a bell tomorrow.
-
Yeah, I'm very apprehensive about sending my charger overseas, the customs and and insurance issues alone are a nightmare. Dochy, is the guy you mention on here? Would much rather deal with a UK bod, does he offer any sort of warranty?
-
Right, I've decided I have to get my charger rebuilt now for piece of mind. My car has done 70K miles and is running perfectly, I'd like to keep it that way. I'm a very competent mechanic, however I've never tackled a G-ladder rebuild myself, done turbo's no problem, but the G-ladder charger is another kettle of fish again. Do I buy a kit and do it myself? Or do I give the charger to someone experienced to rebuild? The way I look at it is, the time it would take me to rebuild the charger could be spent working, earning more money than the labour on a rebuild. Then all I'd have to do is remove/refit the unit and wouldn't risk cocking the rebuild up. There's a guy in the states offering what seems like a good service. Link below, has anyone here dealt with him. I've been in touch with the guy and he seems very straight up and knows what he's talking about. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G60-Corrado-supercharger-rebuild-service-repair-charger?item=260993968771&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7976297955400605998#ht_500wt_922 Or, is there anyone one in the UK offering a similar service?
-
Floppyman, That's a very tidy job there, I'm impressed!
-
No, unfortunately not, sold that long, long ago for a lot of money. Ten years ago Corrado bit's were worth a mint. I'm keeping the early one I have now for some of my own R&D, making a kit to fit Three VDO gauges to the bottom storage hole. Like this but in RHD or LHD, the Stainless fixings are going to be replaced with anodised Black ones. Or there's the option of having the back plate in polished alloy with Stainless fixings, a little garish for my tastes now but when I fitted them to my first G60 I went with shiny, shiny and it looked good.
-
Nice one, that's interesting info. Guess my previous G60 had dealer fit windows then. So the total closure electronics are built into the window control box, that make sense. Thanks very much. EDIT-- That also explains what I found inside the doors of the early 16V I recently broke, looked like a mess to me, not a tidy job, also the car had no window control box. So that all make perfect sense now, was bothering my why someone had hard soldered the wires to the backs of the switches, along with the absent control box which I wanted to keep as a spare. It was the dealers doing!!
-
Thanks for the answers guys, looks like my last G60 was broken, as definitely didn't have this feature. Still cool for a 22 year old car. Oh yeah, my intruction manual is in Dutch.
