crazymarcel 0 Posted October 4, 2004 Sorry i see there is another tyre post below/above, but only seems to be talking about 15inch tyres. My front el cheapo tyres that came with my 17" wheels when i swapped them are luckily running low, I think i want some decent tyres, despite people tellin me not worth it on a vr6 go cheap. what do other people have on there 17s? i want obviously cheapest price but decent tyres?? for 205/40/17 Does anyone use 205/45/17? would the benefit of these be softer ride but at an increased price. Cheers :)

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 4, 2004 215x40x17 F1 GSD3s get my vote......got 4 of them sitting in my dining room awaiting some *very, very* swanky rims 8) Ignore what I say about F1s....I'm talking GSD2s when I slag them....the 3s are the mutts.....they've seen the light (finally) and given us a decent sidewall and rim protector. bcstudent 0 Posted October 4, 2004 I've got Nankang Ultra Sport NS-II all round on my car and they're utter crap in the wet. Surprisingly they're not too bad in the dry though and £55 each fitted. Probably best avoided though!!!!! Also they've worn incredibly quickly - GOOD!
crazymarcel 0 Posted October 5, 2004 Cheers for the link to the site Asim, gives me a rough idea of price i should be paying. GSD3's are on there for 90ish might give them a try if you recommend them kev, wont be gettin mine in 215 though/

Jim 2 Posted October 6, 2004 Just had some F1's fitted, had em before on my 15's.. defo worth the ££££ Word. Eagle F1's are much better than the T1-S's I currently have.. but in defence of the T1-S's, they are a lot cheaper, a lot quieter, a lot less harsh a ride.. however they just don't compare when it comes to grip! :)
Bally 0 Posted October 6, 2004 True Jim, I've got Toyos on the rear, they aren't bad tyres but they are cr8p when it comes to grip IMO
vwdubs 0 Posted October 6, 2004 I prefer to leave half my tyres across the road just incase im driving back that way later in the day and need more grip :) I put some Mich on the front end and they do seem to struggle with my cornering.
Bally 0 Posted October 6, 2004 You nutter Steve  you should lower it & that will make a difference...
dr_mat 0 Posted October 6, 2004 people tellin me not worth it on a vr6 go cheap. Who told you to put cheap tyres on it?!! Sure it chews them, but why is that a reason to put cheap ones on?

Cheers :) It never fails to amaze me when so called 'tyre experts' say its not worth fitting decent tyres on a VR6.... I had exactly this by a guy who owns his own tyre company and drives a Escort Cosworth - he actually said the VR6 is not really a high performance car and not worth putting high performance tyres on it.... I politely mentioned if a car capable of 150mph and 0-60 in less than 6.5 seconds is not a high performance car then I have no idea what is... and walked off  I'm a big fan of the Yokohama AVS Sport... stevemac 0 Posted October 6, 2004 anyone used kumho tyres? Yeah - they're crap Unfortunately, I have 2 on the back of my G60 at the mo. Back end's all over the place in the wet !! As Kev says - GSD3's (like my front ones) are the best 17" tyres to go for
