STORM 2 0 Posted October 12, 2005 I don't know how many of you finally got round to doing this one but here's my effort. Bracket needed three holes drilling into chassis to get asolid mount. Colour difference is not discernable despite the flash!
bcstudent 0 Posted October 12, 2005 Good effort but I'm not really that keen; it looks like it's too far back to be an armrest. Is it big enough for sarnies? :)
scarlett 0 Posted October 12, 2005 i like..... looks like it should be there IMO..... :)
Jim 2 Posted October 12, 2005 Better than on the actual mk4 as that arm rest sits too far forward, and sits right on top of the handbrake - so the only time you can really use it is on the motorway. Otherwise you have to dislocate your arm to engage / disengage the handbrake :) Good mod though, definately :)
Phil K 0 Posted October 12, 2005 Nice install... if they did one in dirty grey cloth it'd blend in with my interior perfectly  How easy is it to use the hand brake with it down?
bix 0 Posted October 12, 2005 Nice install... if they did one in dirty grey cloth it'd blend in with my interior perfectly  How easy is it to use the hand brake with it down? Mine is the only one that dont work for handbrake turns?
benkenobi57 0 Posted October 12, 2005 thats a very nice mods storm 2 did you fix it to the center console or the seats?? how much was the arms rest did you get it from a scrap yard or steeler?? have you any part numbers, i can feel a new mod for my raddo coming on i could get it in black vinal or leather...hmmm 8)
STORM 2 0 Posted October 12, 2005 The armrest has been bolted to the chassis under the centre 'tranny tunnel' When fully down there's still quite a clearance from the handbrake...see last photo benkenobi57, got the armrest from some guy on ebay - there's some available in black leather for around 50 quid new
Supercharged 2 Posted October 12, 2005 I like it - was thinking about doing this on the TDi as the MK4 shifter sits high and it actually feels like there should be one there!

benkenobi57 0 Posted October 12, 2005 cheers Storm2 im really likinf this mod found some on ebay and not such a bad price can you post up a pic of how you fixed it , did you bolt it on to the center console plastic directly or to the actuall frame of the car are there any brackets there below the center console to fix it to?? a pic would be good to explain it a bit more cheers
STORM 2 0 Posted October 12, 2005 the pic below shows the main bracket with three holes. In the MKIV golf and bora two of these were aligned with the handbrake bolt holes. However no such luck with the C! you have to alingn the bracket slightly posteriorly to the handbrake fixing and get a secure position to mark out your drill holes. Once the main bracket is on the rest is relatively straightforward...case of trimming the plastics to refit. As with things like this..planning the cuts and taking your time will yield the closest to the 'factory look'..good luck!

GIXXERUK 0 Posted October 13, 2005 You have to modify the bracket a bit by cutting some of the reinforcements off, the center part of the consol is narrower than the mk4 and just will not fit without trimming, you'll also have to trim the Ebrake cable bracket a bit to get it sitting centered well, also a small tab sticking up where the front right bracket bolt will go. The front right bracket bolt hole will be sitting in a space like it was made for it, the tunnel starts to rise up a wee bit here. I used a die grinder with a cut off wheel for all cuts. You will also have to use a spacer or washers under the left side of the bracket to make it sit level, The mk4 has an uneven tunnel and the C's is fairly flat. The bracket is just a little to wide for the C's tunnel so the holes will never be flat, you could radius the botton of the bracket to fit the C's tunnel better but I didn't and it worked just fine. The under part of the center console has to be trimmed a bit to make room for the bracket, I did not have to pull this part out of the car, just moved it around what I was working on after taking the 4 plastic nuts holding it down loose. There is a small spot that is not covered now but with the seats in the f ull rearward position you can not see it because of the seatbelt brackets. The top part of the center consol must be cut to fit the armrest post, take your time and do it slowly, I measured out what I wanted, cut it a bit undersized and reinstalled it. Then I took the die grinder and made the hole slightly bigger until it fit perfect, this is prolly the most important part so TAKE YOUR TIME. It does rub on the seat reclining adjuster wheels and there is not much you can do about it, the armrest could go back farther but would then be useless. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 13, 2005 Excellent, that's defo a mod that's been in my intray for quite a while now. I agree with the comment that it's probably a bit too far back for my liking, is there anyway it could go forward a bit more with hacking the car too much? Andy665 0 Posted October 13, 2005 Been thinking about this for a while, its the one thing I have missed from my old Bora - just bought an armrest off E-Bay, seems like a decent mod

STORM 2 0 Posted October 15, 2005 I agree with the comment that it's probably a bit too far back for my liking, is there anyway it could go forward a bit more with hacking the car too much? TBH Kev, you could probably get away with inching the bracket forward a couple of inches but it depends on how you sit in the car. I like my seat all the way down and quite far back and I sited the bracket with this in mind. For my seating position its perfect having trialled it for a few days. Ive also wired it up to a cradle inside that will recharge the phone. I've got a Sony Ericcson bluetooth setup going in the car so now its completely handsfree and chargeable without an ugly cradle screwed to the dash.
