nedssx 0 Posted August 22, 2009 I know some of you have done this already. Just want to know if they fit the standard carriers? mine is a valver. Also does it matter what model golf4 they come from? :help:
VR6 South 0 Posted August 22, 2009 I used Seat Leaon rear calipers sourced from a local scrappy for £50. Not sure if I used the Seat calipers though, it was some time ago since I did the job.
dragon green 5 Posted August 22, 2009 Yes they fit standard carriers,
nedssx 0 Posted August 22, 2009 Thanks for the help guys. :D Will go buy some of the bay now.
Dude VR6 0 Posted August 24, 2009 I have been offered some of these from a guy at work, and was wanting to upgrade the hose at the same time. Do I get standard VR6 braided hoses for the rear, or do I have to get mk 4 rear braided hoses ? I will also change the hand brakes cables at the same time, again do I stick to standard VR6 cables ? Supercharged 2 Posted August 25, 2009 No - you need the MK2-MK4 conversion hoses (Goodridge are the only people to make these) Yeah good time to change the H/B cables as they can seize - standard ones are fine but get the MK4 cable clips
Andy665 0 Posted August 25, 2009 I have a pair sat in the garage that I bought but never got round to fitting - £40 + P+P and they are yours
dragon green 5 Posted August 25, 2009 Goodridge hoses mk2-mk4 conversion set part no-SVW0506-2P
C.P 0 Posted August 25, 2009 FYI, you don't have to use Goodridge hoses, you can use 99 Passat ones. However, Goodridge ones are probably cheaper... as the passat ones are listed on ETKA at 26.68. Might be ok if you can find a cheap source of the passat ones.

I have found the hoses and all I need is the calipers from the dude at work, if he doesn`t come through I will have the calipers off Andy665
Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 26, 2009 i didn't fit any mk4 clips when i did the conversion, i ordered new clips that hold the handbrake cable to the rear axle, but that was standard corrado stuff
dragon green 5 Posted August 26, 2009 I concur with 3corsameal
Flexso 0 Posted September 19, 2009 Hi all, Just resurrecting this thread. My rear calipers and the bolts that go into the carriers to allow the caliper to move back and forth have seized. Might as well upgrade to mk4 :D In my senario do I need: corrado vr6 carriers, pair of mk4 calipers, the bolts that move the caliper back and forth (or do they come with the calipers?) new hoses. When you say rear calipers do you mean the handbreak mech or just the bolts, if it's the bolts then you should be able to free them up. Even if you do though they're still a pain so mk4's are a great alternative and weigh a bit less. You'd need calipers and carriers, and the mk2-mk4 hose that goodridge make as a special part for petrolheads like us :)

Actually snapped one off last night  So mk4s are definitely on the cards.
swiftkid 1 Posted September 19, 2009 can someone confirm the definitive list of converting the rear brakes to 280's, which i presume is what this thread is? or are mk4s smaller? basically you need: vr6 carrier mk4 caliper goodridge mk2-mk4 hose mk4 handbrake cable (with clip) replacement bolts for those stupid allen key ones you snap off brake fluid 280 disc would that be about it and its all pretty straight forward task? if so any chance someone could set up a page on wiki as pianowire/kevwire/cheesewire did a thread with pictures for the conversion

This thread is for swapping your rear calipers to mark 4 golf ones. Reason being is the corrado ones seem to seize, as I have just found out. :mad2:
swiftkid 1 Posted September 19, 2009 ahh sorry my mistake, i was under teh assumption mk4 golfs all had the 280s, that must only be the 4mo's and possibly the r32's then
ANDREW 30 0 Posted September 19, 2009 This thread is'nt a 280mm conversion thread, it's just the mk4 rear caliper swop/upgrade which uses the standard disc's!
Flexso 0 Posted September 19, 2009 So in a nutshell mk4 rear caliper bolt straight on to corrado carriers. They use the corrado handbrake cable, discs and pads. The only extra thing you need for the very basic upgrade is mk2-mk4 goodridge braided hoses? Is this correct guys?
swiftkid 1 Posted September 19, 2009 i would say yes to goodridge hoses but the pads may be different, as with the mk4 front brakes they use a bigger surface area of the disc so the pads may be different to corrado's on the rear
C.P 0 Posted September 19, 2009 pads are the same! ;)
Flexso 0 Posted September 19, 2009 pads are the same! ;) Thats lucky, I have just got a brand new set of green stuff pads. So all I need are the calipers and braid hoses?
