Back in a Corrado VR6 after 22 yrs

Recommended Posts

I just want to make clear I also PM'd to apologise to Steve - my gut instinct and knee-jerk reaction on this occasion was way off the mark!

Hi Neil,

Just realised you were one of the guy in Kendal at Roger's place. Hopefully you enjoyed looking over it - it really is a spectacular example of the car and I have the deepest respect for the people who got it back to this condition and I will carry on the good work but not myself as I stick to the driving and enjoyment side as I have the Lakes and Shap to enjoy - anything mechanical I will leave to my expert as I might permanently injure it !! Must get someone to remove the big speaker from the rear though - getting old and too much base gives me a headache - was perfectly installed though so it will come out with no visible sign that it was there.

Cheers - many thanks for your reply - very much appreciated -

No problem steve & very understanding of you :) We may be an over protective lot on here & sometimes jump the gun but in general it has the most helpful & friendly forum members & admins i have experienced

not loking forward to todays bill though from my Corrado expert mechanic !! LOL.

they are always tough days! BUT i think thats one thing about a corrado which keeps all of our enthusiasm alive - they may present us with bills & challenges & scraped knuckles etc but all that angst pales into insignificance & disappears in the rear view mirror within a few seconds of driving them again :D

Slightly off topic but wondering if anyone can help me with this one or point me in the right direction. I have been searching for a particular car now for getting on for 20+ years and someone may be able to help. Back in 1986 my dad passed away suddenly aged only 50 and he had a Mercedes 280SL in 1985 - it took me until last year to find a photo of the car with the reg number but this appears to be of little help because Mercedes do not have records going back far enough to give me the VIN, Portman Mercedes in Manchester are no longer and the new laws which effect information disclosure from DVLA etc make it impossible to get help there.

I have even tried the insurance company we used but also a dead end - if there are any super sleuths out there who can help me find this car or at least discover if it is still on the road much thanks and appreciation will be bestowed on you !! I think I have uploaded a photo with luck if not please let me know how to do it.

Many thanks

Stephen

That really is a tough one!

I have no idea if they could help but i do know of a mercedes SL specialist sales & showroom which i recall my parents had visited.

It is close to where i live & my parents said how friendly & knowledgeable the owners & staff were.

It is probably a long shot, as they may not be able to help you find the actual car your looking for, but they may be able to offer some advice or direction to start you on the road to locating it

Their website is http://www.theslshop.com/

good luck with it! i know i would love to find the GT6 my dad used to own around the time i was born & my mom made him sell it lol

PS when posting pictures i click the 'go advanced' button & then use the 'add attachment' feature to upload pics as an attachment. some people manage to embed them in their post but ive not figured that way yet. FYI the attachment data size can be quite limited so i use 'windows image resizer' as a very quick & simple way to make them smaller

Photo not uploading and can't work out how to do it - try to add photo in normal way but doesn't seem to work. Help appreciated.

Cheers

Hey Steve, try resizing as said or load the pics to Photobucket >> http://photobucket.com/ then copy and paste directly

You are totally correct in what you say Steve you also see how passionate we are about our "flock" sorry if I caused any upset that was not my intention. I parked next to your car at Stanford Hall and know how good it is. Good to know it's in good hands

Lovely Merc, hope you find it.

I'm having similar issues, as I look for some of the Motorcycles my Granddad owned in the 90's (old British 70's stuff). I have a few reg numbers to go one, and a few pics.

It's tricky!

The wheels on Steve's now live on mine ( in pic)

Technically, the ones in the picture dont, I p.x'd the ones on the pic with OSV. Yours are the ones off his silver one!

Still nice tho'

And very smart they are too - car remaining at mechanics as no reversing lights and washers not working - should all be sorted tomorrow with luck until the next time !!

I know you have owned a couple of sets of Rs's. And now your last set are back on it with Micheal? I do love them make the Corrado look totally different. Don't think they were just on Storm's Steve as they were available from 1992 which is when mine were made I believe they were a Dealer option someone else may be able to confirm I'm still a bit of a Newbie.

as for enjoying the lakes and shap i know only to well how nice it can be to drive round them and on many a sunny day have popped out for a lets say spirited drive up shap!

It is a lad who is in his 50s who now works for Ben Cross who is the VW group independent expert on Kingstown ind Estate in Carlisle. Very convenient for me as I have a business up there which I go to every day anyway.
