I think the good G60s will overtake VR's in time like you say as they are so rare. The Storms that are looked after will be the expensive VR's

Dealer prices have no bearing whatsoever in terms of real value. These guys can sit on old cars for ages so no need for quick sale. By the time it has sold it will be likely be worth 10k. I can't see Wheeler Dealers having much influence on prices either.

May not have direct influence on prices but certainly exposed the car to many more people who may not have considered it.... Which may in time indirectly affect prices.

I remember a dealer advertising an alloy wheel i needed, was battered and just a golf vr BBS, he wanted £75 for it, i offered about £60 and he wouldn't even budge a fiver, so managed to buy a whole set of four for about £60-70, i've used the wheels, had them in garage for a couple of years and sold them, the bloke is still trying to sell the rims at £75 each, and its about 4yrs later now.

 

The wheels still show up on my ebay searches :lol:

Would you choose a storm over a car with speedlines and electric cloth recaros cloth for example?

I think it comes down to your views on the Corrado in general, and how long you plan to keep it. If you just want a VR because you want a Corrado and love the motor, then a Storm is kind of irrelevant - just get the best you can find.

 

However if you don't plan on keeping it forever and plan to cash out when (if?!) prices get better then a Storm seems a better bet - how many times you get people asking "Is it a Storm?" as it's seen as a more special model by folks who don't know a great deal about the cars, not realising they're basically the same.. so with a Storm you're giving yourself a better chance of a sale I think in the wider market, as you can appeal to those kinds of buyers.

A storm is just a list of options, badges (obviously) and a downgrade to MK3 golf wheels.

 

Corrados come in some fabulous colours (as well as blue and green) in standard form, I'd find it difficult to walk past a blackberry / sherry pearl, grey pearl with electric recaros to look at a standard storm....

I've always been partial to Mystic Blue though. And actually, sometimes, prefer the Solitudes to the Speedlines.

This will turn into one of those controversial Storm/No Storm threads! You can get better spec non-storms, and maybe even nicer colours, although I always loved the green Storm with beige interior (a devil to keep clean though, I'd say). Was toying with the idea of a couple of storm badges on my pearl grey to make a new limited edition! ;)

I took my Corrado to Specialist Cars breakfast morning last Sunday. I spent a few hours sat a few meters away from the car, just watching and listening to peoples reactions to the car. About half of them called it a Corrado Storm, even though it's blackberry with black leather :D

 

I like the Mystic Storms, but IMO Blackberry and Deep Burgundy Pearl are the best.

Was it a good turn out at the Big Breakfast? My G60 and I couldn't make it (it's under a cover in the back garden.....).

I think prices of good ones will rise as they become fewer for all Corrados, but the VR6 will always be seen as the Halo model. I'm still not planning on getting another one though!

I've been watching people talk about rising corrado prices since 1994 :)

Briefly, just at the end of production nearly new VR6's were selling in London over list price then too.

The low point was probably about the time of the scrappage scheme, I don't really think a lot will change, look at 'classics' like the mgb roadster, a friend's dad did a full restoration on one around 1990 and sold it for just over 10 grand, you can pick up one now for a couple of grand more than that (25 years later!)

much as I love the Corrado it's never going to be a Jensen Interceptor or Healey 3000.

A quick web search shows concours low mileage mk1 GTI's and MK1 sciroccos for somewhere between 10 and 15 grand, similar for a top end Corrado I suppose, then pick your level of corrosion for prices below that :)
