They were my first choice - the reason nobody uses them is because very few places actually stock them!!! Its a shame really as the Vredstein Sportrac2 is a superb performing tyre and extemely sexy looking  They even colour the outside wall of the tyre to give that gloss black shine

 bit over enthusiastic there... just cant believe the performance of decent modern diesels... I honestly reckon they will replace petrols as 'performance cars' in the future!!! Yeah my mates is the 150PD Bora with sport pack and it handles well... not quite up to par with my Pug but sticks on my tail through the bends... the Bora is heavy after all so wont be nimble as the pug... Even now the handling of the Pug amazes me considering after driving the FTO it feels totally soft and under damped but it sticks to the road like shit to a blanket  - just a shame its practically doing 30degrees when leaning over  - new dampers me thinks  -
Prices am quoting are for 205 / 50 / 16 inch rim Y rated....

Had Toyo Proxes T1's before and werent impressed.... wet weather driving is poor and they are pig ugly tyres IMAHO   Personally I'm with Kev's old choice of either Bridgestone Potenzas or Eagle F1's... Apparently the Vredstein Sportrac2's are supposed to very good and won alot of reviews recently... £65 per tyre too. Falken FK-451's have also been advised are extremely good value for money...

Agreed - I see 60mph in under 10 secs now which for diesel gearing is superb.... Apparently 170bhp is possible from this engine  -

Sorry but no way. Most 130s actually show 140/150 on the rollers with around 190/200 pounds torque.....and that's *before* you chip it up to 180/190 brake! I've driven a standard 306 TD, 206 HDi and 130 PD Golf and the Golf is a lot punchier than all of them.....just sh1t handling. Just my experiences  Your welcome to come and have a go mate.... My mate at work has one and TWICE on the local dual carriageway I pull away from him slowly  306 handles the best. -
Do NOT buy Uniroyal rainsports... have two left on my FTO and cannot wait to get rid of them.... awful tyres. Goodyear F1 GS-D3's are superb

Yup my TD has over 160lb ft torque at just 2200rpm.... Had a mate of mine at fuelling specialist 'mess with it' for me.... we estimate about 110-115bhp / 165lbft torque and that would enough till kill most 1.8 / 2.0 cars once moving in 2nd gear.... my Pug kills 130bhp Golf TDi's with ease... Although the clutch lasted two weeks after the playing  - new clutch now  -
The S3 is superb - I drove a few after selling the VR6... just found it a bit bland on the outside although the alum mirrors are gorgeous
-
I dont rate Yoko's in the wet mate.... my AVS Sport db's were very good on the VR6 but not anywhere near as good as my mates F1's GS-D3's... Dont forget my tyres are strange size for a 16 inch rim
-
Cheers guys.... Just sourced 2 Goodyear F1's (yep Kev they are GS-D3's :-P )for £89 each fitted from event tyres in manchester. Very recommended and can get any tyre you like next day!!! They went the extra mile and got me GS-D3's for this afty and going to get fitted about 3pm. Cheers Scott
-
It has a six inch screw in it!!! Its a crap tyre anyway...
-
I cant mate no - they take up to a week.... need them fitted today!
-
I have had to call the FTO into service due to the clutch going on my Pug TD... but today I found a screw imbedded in my tyre... so I am trying to find two decent tyres that can be fitted tommorrow without fail. Does anyone have any ideas? Kwik fit / National tyres want over £90 per piece....for an average tyre Tyre Size: 205 / 50 / 16 / V rated Scott

The issue is: 'style, individuality, reliability and speed' for £10 - 12k? The Corrado is about as close as it gets  No car these days less than 3yrs old is going to be classed as 'individual' 8) Cupra R is a cracking motor though - considering one myself (Seat Leon)... Audi S3 ? (its not a A3 ;) ) Toyota Celica 190 Sport? (hardly individual - but the 190 version is pretty rare)

Some of the guys on the Yahoo group did some research on the groupings of insurance and came up with this: Cheapest to insure to most expensive 1.8 16V - grp 15 2.0 8V - grp 15 2.0 16V - grp 16 G60 - grp 16 VR6 - grp 18 VR6 Storm - grp 18/19
-
Its actually the opposite mate for Corrados.... there are more of them available down south so prices tend to be keener up North for Corrados. At least they were when I was looking. :D

Told you not to sell it!!! ........people never listen to me...... :( Timo. 8) I wonder why ;) What's that supposed to mean? cheeky boy![/quote:ba763] pulling your chuffer mate :-P

Trust me - I drove a few tips and hated them for those exact reasons.... there is a BIG difference between a manual FTO and a tiptronic one with the manual being substancially quicker :D But yeah I know what you mean about the power surge at 4k rpm on the Corrado VR6... I still miss it... the FTO just revs and revs and revs.... then revs some more. 130mph is pretty poor though.... I have done 120mph and had only just put it in 4th - was pulling nicely too at that speed when the limiter kicked in  I still miss my VR6 though.
-
Yeah know what you mean... it just doesnt roll at all - totally flat... feels like you are holding on hard via the steering wheel alot of the time when going through corners fast  - I admit I am impressed with the handling of the FTO. My VR used to skip a bit mid corner on nasty bumps but am used to it a bit - a lot of the problem is that I am hitting corners at higher speeds in general and therefore the mid corner bumps can be trouser moving  GS has 125bhp... and not a patch on the V6's... Couldnt have put it better myself 8)

The MIVEC and GR both have 2.0 V6 engines but the GR has NIVEC and the GPX has MIVEC... the difference is about 17bhp (same torque figures)... but the MIVEC torque / bhp is pushed higher up the rev range so makes for hard work. But in real world experience there is little to chose between them. Its the gearbox that makes the biggest difference... 95% of them are tiptronics (yawn) ... the manuals are faster by 1 sec to 60mph... quickest is the GPX Manual (60mph in 6.3 secs) then the GR Manual (60mph in 6.7 secs) and the tips go over 7 secs... both manuals do quarter miles in around 15.1 - 15.2 sector so performance is not far off the' 'VR'... the chassis on the FTO is fantastic and on a track I seriously think a VR6 would have problems keeping up (standard of course) but on the road I am not sure... the suspension on the FTO is very hard and can make the car skip a little over bad roads so can be difficult to drive fast sometimes.... GR is to 1996... GX is from 1997 to 2000 (both V6 NIVEC) GPX is through whole range from 1995 to 2000 (post and pre face lift) (V6 MIVEC) GS is the 1.8 4 pot... a real slug :) But yeah I miss my VR6... I dont know why - its not the power I miss, neither the chassis... I suspect its the character of the car... I WILL be coming back one day - promise. Scott

Blimey.... I shan't be picking on any Mivecs then  Mine was resting on the stop which is roughly 165 indicated as a guess, prolly only 150 *true* mph though. Still good for a 10 year old N/A car with simple mods. I'm more than happy as I never thought I'd get past 150 in a Volkswagen! The engine didn't feel entirely happy about doing it though :? Lots of vibration..... felt like a mechanical imbalance, or a top end misfire. Something else for Vince to look at but booking it in because it "Vibrates at an indicated 165mph" might not go down too well though  Well to be honest mate the VR6 would be quicker to 80-90mph due to the torque factor but the FTO has the long gearing and redline to its advantage which means it can do silly figures especially with max bhp being so high up the rev range.... it also has a decent gearbox with long ratios in 4th and 5th hence why they can get silly max speeds... I'd lose some of that top end for a bit more acceleration low down though - know what I mean ;) Mine aint a MIVEC but perhaps I lost the irony there :-P - chose the GR as its a better engine and has better torque low down which is important for me when coming from a VR .... it also makes the car easier to drive fast as you dont have to rag it like a MIVEC... keep the GR above 4k rpm and it goes VERY well... to get same effect in MIVEC you need to stay above 5500rpm which is tough and due to the gearing between 2nd and 3rd no matter what you do it falls out of the MIVEC so there is lag ... I drove them all... the GR Manual was closest to the VR6 in terms of revs / torque / bhp... was a nicer drive :) I still said to the missus if someone made me a sensible offer for the FTO I'd go out and get a new Corrado VR6 in a jiffy  - I miss it.

Nice to see this thread is still alive and kicking  This will make you laugh: I got a chance to top the FTO out on Sunday when driving up to Teeside for a racing competition.... gunned it as was running late and had just changed to 4th gear (3rd at 7750rpm) doing 115 - 120mph in 4th at 5500rpm when I hit the speed limiter... and boy did it kick   - time to get it un-restricted I think... the previous owner didnt know when I asked him if it was restricted as the only way to tell is to take it to 120mph... you can imagine he was a little reluctant to let me do that on the test drive :-P Apparently mine is good for indicated 162mph.... seen a tiptronic 5 speed do an indicated 180mph....- apparently its something to do with the gearing in the box....
