  1. could it be wishbone bushes?
  2. nothing, apart from an mp3 CD in the stereo, even the spare and jack is dumped on all but long journeys, if possible I keep the fuel tank and washer bottle close to empty too, in fact I'd dump the wing mirrors if it was legal for the use they are, a couple of tea spoons would give me a better field of view
  3. TBH they don't really cause problems, the engine just sits on them, they don't take the strain like the front mount does, if yours is really shot then a S/H passat one would probably do, I wouldn't go for solid on the rear for a valver, too much vibration when the engine isn't massively torquey anyway.
  4. GSF do them, not cheap though 42.50 plus vat
  5. that's the rubber golf one, sometimes used on lower powered passats too, the C one is the hydraulic version with a passat part number 535199262
  6. I read somewhere once about the amount of stuff that falls off vehicles each year onto UK roads, it was something stupid like several hundred thousand tonnes and I don't mean fallen off the back of a lorry That reminds me, a family friend up nr Inverness is lucky to be alive, a scaffold pole fell off a lorry and went through his windscreen and impaled itself into the (fortunately empty) passenger seat
  7. I'm pretty sure geometry will be affected if the car is up on jacks as lowering the car on non standard springs/suspension can require camber adjustment. I'd rather check things as they are when the car is 'on it's feet' as it will be on the road.
  8. problem with those is you have to take a wheel off unless you can get it sitting flat on the hub centre with the wheels on, in my experience a similar gauge doesn't fit inside the wheel centres on most alloys, a protractor type gauge with a plumb line would be good (it needs to sit on the top and bottom of the wheel rim), but I've only ever seen an old one in use at a garage and no idea where you might get them from? David. Edit: ok, I didn't try very hard! http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ ... code=ADACG
  9. try to get hold of a passat haynes manual that covers the kr and 9a 16v engines (1988-92), posibly not in print anymore, it gives a lot of info that's helpful when testing the injection/ignition sysstem on the 16v. also, check out these links: http://www.users.bigpond.com/INTERJECT/KSITEPLN.HTM http://www.auto-solve.com/mech_inj.htm http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/fuel_i ... onic.shtml although the 2.0 has ke-jetronic, the system is very similar. you can test the HT leads for resistances, visible corrosion at the ends, timing of the engine, spray pattern of the injectors, fuel system pressures etc etc. If you don't have access to another similar car to swap bits over from, or the test equipment to check certain components then your best bet may be to take it to a specialist like Stealth, within an hour (approx 50 quid) they'd almost certainly have diagnosed your problems. It's not always injectors, mine have done 150K and are fine. David.
  10. I've used a spirit level before with a couple of equal length bolts stuck to it to sit on the wheel rim top and bottom  As long as you've got the car on level ground it's pretty accurate, I just got it at 90 degrees to the horizontal then gave it a bit of negative either side. You could measure it up with a protractor if you really want to get the amount spot on, but exactly vertical would be fine for tyre wear even if the grip on cornering wouldn't be as good as with a little bit of negative. Actually, I doubt whether 50 miles would be a problem anyway even if it was miles out, you can see camber simply by looking down the side of the car, compare the front and rear wheels of a big beemer you can really see the difference.
  11. having a boring afternoon... This surprised me, the max speed for an HGV (lorry over 7.5 tonnes) on a single carriageway is 40mph, how often do you see that?
  12. whole tank, but you should be able to pick up a second hand one for a couple of quid.
  13. 028 105 269B, same on G60, 1.8 and 2L Corrado, also Golfs and passats with the G60 and 16v engines respectively.
  14. Are you sure you have a 0-10 bar sender and not a 0-5 bar one?
  15. the oil temp sensor may be on the oil filter housing, my 2L block has one on there, but as I have a 1.8 head there's also one on there, no difference in temp reading though. It's the smaller of the 3 if you have the 2 pressure sensors on the filter housing. It's just a screw in 13mm hex with a small soft washer I think.
  16. You're in N'ton, where about's?, I'm in wootton, try Motoserve in Milton Keynes for a full set or ECP, if you have no luck I'll ask my dad how much he can get one through a factors from work, I'd imagine a full set is around 30-40 quid, plus new stretch bolts. My head was done a Towcester Tuning, not sure if they are still around, they were based in Silverstone village, other than that the guys on the club gti forum will give you details of the best suppliers for 16v heads.

    MFA TEMP??

32.50 from GSF, I got mine free from my dad when he worked for Skoda, they're used on Octavias, be interesting to see how much a Skoda dealer would charge for one. GSF opened within walking distance from me in Northampton - RESULT!
  18. I had this when the earth strap to the head was loose after re-fitting the engine, could just be a dodgy earth.
  19. price up VAG too, for the 2.0L they are pretty reasonable, but GSF or ECP would probably be chaeper for the 1.8 bits. My pattern 1.8 set from a small motor factors came with both 42 and 50mm manifold gaskets.

    MFA TEMP??

yep, it's a doddle mate, there's just one thin big nut underneath when you remove the oil filter, then it's just the two water hoses. If yours is original it'll be pretty sha99ed by now. You might want to get a new seal for the new one though, goes between oil filter housing and the exchanger D.
  21. apart from the ones set up at stealth
  22. 100kgs says the golf :) you may find the golf has better gearing too, at max speed the corrado will have the edge as it's more aerodynamic than the golf.
  23. cheers, might have a polo one so I'll try that first t osee if it affects it before tootling off to VAG.
  24. if you tilt the panel there are 4 torx screws that hold it to the mechanism, two either side, if you slacken these there is some adjustment.
  25. not from what I've seen, it was a curved but a smooth surface with a couple of bracing pieces, it's quite small and fairly thin, just a hat really.
