Sounds like knackered wishbone bushes, but could be partly track rod inner joints, outer joints, dampers, roll bar links... Best get a garage to inspect it thoroughly if you can't diagnose it.

hardly worth it if you could then get slapped with import duty etc...

1st things 1st, does the arm come to rest close enough to the screen? remove the blade and carefully! lower the bare arm to the screen, usually the shoulders on the arm base prevent the arm end from actually touching the screen, if they do, and the arm is too far away you need to file/dremel the shoulders away, a couple of mm will do.

old one then, they can fail and spurt coolant out periodically

welcome! Is it your first? There's a few 'good' people on here from time to time :) we now need pics BTW...

system doesn't pressurise until it's hot

been through any deeeep water? you could lick the lining to see if it tastes of coolant? more seriously, it's unlikely to be spray from the road or just condensation, leaking coolant would be a favourite

He wanted a recommendation, and Stealth know the cars well and have some expensive alignment kit that compensates for when the cars are lifted off the ground to adjust the bolts. I agree it can be set up right with very simple kit, you just need to find someone who won't screw up you track rods, shorten one track rod too much and give you the car back not pulling to one side and with the steering wheel straight, sometimes that's not as easy as you might think!

four axle stands and some coloured string/monofilament that's all I used :)
-
yeah, lots of manufacturers use different sized heads on the same diameter threads for bolts you don't want to confuse, e.g. 16mm and 18mm suspension and mounting bolts on VW's
-
Stealth is a little trip for you (Southam) but they've got some very good alignment kit and would do the job right

seems like a good deal delivered free and 5L http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/p/accessories-engine-oil/engine-oils/engine-oil/10w40-engine-oil/?521772251&0&cc5_245&utm_source=CP4L+Customers&utm_campaign=777a0df9cf-CarParts4Less_Offers_Newsletter12_18_2013&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_399d0274b4-777a0df9cf-338813137

no need to renew now apparently: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25398499

Obviously aftermarket sensors cut into the rear bumper, nice interior, but auto, you'd have to budget for a manual gearbox and all the parts to convert IMO :) at this age/mileage it could be on all original dampers, bushes etc too, def. worth a look to see what the body is like tho.

New battery fitted, now have cold start problem, any ideas guys ?
davidwort replied to borders16v's topic in Engine Bay
Check all the easy stuff, things like the earth strap from the head to the bulkhead, wiring close to the connector plugs for damage and corrosion, starting ok when warm may suggest high resistance in wiring somewhere which is higher when cold. -
Vac pipe is for mpg calculation and is inlet manifold vac

I don't think the 2.0 16v ecu has any learning capability, it's very basic and so is its fault recording. Ideally you want vcds/vag com on a laptop an a 2+2 adapter cable to read any faults with the car running. However it is fairly easy to check the temperature sensors with a multimeter over their temp range to make sure they are within limits, just a temp/resistance graph. Lambda will not affect fuelling on this car until it is fully up to temp. -
If the corrosion is only in the gasket opening for the coolant channels then I'd have though that's fine, the problem would be if any of the corrosion has reached the oil galleries or combustion chambers across the face, in that case you need to show it to a place that could advise on welding of heads and machining.

It's not oem that's for sure :)

What's behind then?

Hinges riveted iirc

I reckon my 8v must be pushing close to 90 at the wheels, I can just about keep up with the traffic still.

You'll need a south facing large 4kw+ system to get close to a grand return each year, and then that depends on your usage and saving on units not bought from your energy supplier. 4kw will give a good return but a 2.4 which I may have to have will still achieve half this. the surveyor is coming Friday so I'll see exactly what he says, but the panels have a 25yr 80% efficiency guarantee. I can't see FIT changing for those that get in on a certain level, but leave it too long and the price is bound to drop for new entrants, it has once already, which is why I think the panel price/FIT level is at a good point right now.

sigh, if only rr figures meant anything
