been buying from here for ages, things like air filters are great, I think I paid about 6 quid for a mk4 activated charcoal pollen filter delivered to the door!

no, all the same running gear apart from extra tails on the back subframe to the bodyshell floor giving it a bit more rigidity unless you have a late 8v/16v (1995) where the only difference is the front suspension top mounts and upper spring plates, or a VR6 where everything is from the 'plus-axle' so essentially all mk3 GTI/VR6 parts I've done/replaced most things on a 4 cylinder corrado and rarely with genuineVW parts, the only time I've really stuck to VW was for front wheel bearings and the only problems I've had (in 16 years) with pattern parts have been front suspension top mounts, rear engine mount and a steering column top bearing, everything else has been fine, for example my recon PAS pump is 16 years old and running fine!

What?! You don't need to undo the ball joints to fit drop links  I've done it many times, it's very simple. Also, ring or email avs if it isn't clear, I'm sure it's not that hard to get a complete set of washers, rubbers and lock nuts, last time I looked you could get them off eBay. if you buy pattern ones they will corrode and won't last like genuine, but given a coat of Hammerite and a squirt of protective wax they'll do years, it's not like they are under massive strain, mk4's have plastic ones! Yeah, tons on eBay, about 15 quid delivered for a full set, just search for mk2 golf drop links

1. I'm slightly short sighted so the zig-zaggy lines of heated ford screens bug me 2. would a pattern screen actually fit?, because a leaking screen is going to be far worse than a slighly below par heater blower 3. what else would I do with my stylish leather covered sponge wipe (apart from the obvious recommendations!) apart from that it sounds like a grerat idea :)

inside, other way and they'll pop off the end of the ARB

that's way too high a wattage for the glovebox light, it's supposed to be 3W so a 10W could melt something I've also got an LED bulb, decent ones emit enought light to be comparable to the conventional 3w bulb and are only 1 or 2W so heat won't be a problem

fitting a non adjustable steering column (how-to)

Seems to tension the little plastic cased bearing -
fitting a non adjustable steering column (how-to)
davidwort replied to davidwort's topic in Drivetrain
The uj can only fit in one position as the column shaft has the recess for the pinch bolt, so if the bolt is through, then it's right. the bottom spring should be compressed between the bottom bearing and the uj, usually tight as its a little struggle to compress it and get the bolt through the uj? -
nothing we didn't really know about electric cars
davidwort replied to davidwort's topic in General Car Chat
That's why I put the quote in, it's the production that is more polluting and energy intensive, and just how many windmills do you think we would need to power the 20 odd million vehicles on the UK roads? I'm not against electric vehicles per se, it's the misinformation about the 'green' credentials that really annoys me, oh, that and the fact that if you can afford to buy a 30 grand electric car (LEAF) the average tax payer will subsidise you to the tune of 5 grand plus free road tax. -

heater exchange box foam replacement and flap greasing?!
davidwort replied to bristolbaron's topic in Interior
PTFE spray from toolstation worked well for lubricating mine, I'd go for draught excluder foam with adhesive backing for replacing the foam bits. -
do they hold a deposit from you? I'd have thought threatening to withhold rent is about your only option if gentle requests have failed, as it's not a residential let I think there's little you can do, classic case of agents doing bu99er all for their slice of a rental income. The drainpipe might be easy to sort yourself and just not mention you ever touched anything, but the door would be more expensive, just thinking of what might be easiest, cheapest and least hassle for you in the long run. If you can get a message to the owner about damage being done by water then that might help stimulate some action?
-
yes they will fit, but the front spring/damper rates in particular may not suit the weight of the corrado

have you read any of the 'idlde valve' or 'ISV'and related rough running/idling threads, sticking idle valves often cause this.

Any need for the 'Meet local slags' advert?

soon to be 'dead badger bumming' around here, mind you I should think live one's are a bit of a handful. -
I'm in Northampton (Wootton) let us know if you find anything, rarely see Corrado's around town but there was a tidy blue one driving through near me the other day, so there's one or two of us about.

I'm not totally familiar with the VR6 ones, but the 4cyl ones seem to go in 'all the way', don't over-do it though better to not push them quite far enough, offer the beam up and then press them further if necessary. Manual is a bit sketchcy but I think the basic idea is to make sure there is no slack side-to-side to allow movement of the beam when bolted up.

no idea on sums, but I'd have thought insulating it would keep it warmer rather than have external heat warm it as heat conducts up the runners from the head inlet face. I guess a shield between the cam cover/exhaust manifold may help a bit at low road speeds but once you are motoring air flow through the engine bay is pretty high. VW generally only shield fragile things from the exhaust, like the CV boots or abs unit and pipes, or the floor above the exhaust itself, so Idon't think heat transfer is much of a problem for the inlet, in fact keeping it warm enough in warm-up is more of a concern.

that is the seal/gasket part number for both passat and corrado (generic part cut to right length for each) but it is for the steel roof only

saw an ip5 in the flesh at the weekend, really don't know what to make of it, great screen and nice materials (as we'd expect) and the performance benchmark tests so far make it as fast as anything available and probably faster, but... it's proportions are odd, a bit like one of those unneccessarily long remote controls, I'm sure we'll get used to it, but on first impressions it's missing the 'golden ratio' or something, other bigger products just look in better proportions. and as for all the iOS6 teething troubles, it does make you wonder if Jobs would have let this launch happen?

Could someone please confirm what model this radiator is for?
davidwort replied to speedysmartypants's topic in Engine Bay
Looks like vr to me, definitely not 16v -

No link, but a 16v radiator is short, 435mm and has both hose inlet and outlet straight off the rad on the drivers side, no elbow piece, and 16v air conditioning car is the same but longer, vr has a distinctive bolt on elbow before the hose
