I don't think there's a lot you can do other than a brand new master cylinder and servo, I reckon most of the problem is down to the aged design of the system, including the abs unit. Bigger calipers, pads and discs will just accentuate the weakness of the system, that's the compromise you make when going from small quick biting brakes to bigger more fade resistant ones on the same design of system. Pad choice could improve things a little.

plodding along, a couple of things, a car cover to keep dust and scratches off the 16v when it's in the garage and rain off it when it's got to go outside when I need to work in the garage, and a bit of progress on refurbing two of my 8v wheels. The cover is a Sealey one, I couldn't justify 150 quid on a custom car cover and this seemed to fit the bill, it's not bad at all, it has a soft underside:o, is totally waterproof, has two vents to stop moisture build up underneath it and best of all a zip door in the side! £38 quid delivered from amazon, said it was for a car a maximum of 10cm longer than the corrado and it could do with being a little bigger, but then I think the large would just flap about in the wind, I'm getting a couple of clip on tarpaulin eyelets to make it even more secure outside but tbh it's nice snug fit (better than it looks in the pics) and I can't see it coming off in the wind, rained fairly heavily yesterday afternoon and was pretty windy and it barely moved. I've got six of this style of 8v wheel, so I'm refurbing 2 at a time to keep the car on wheels, so far I've rubbed down filled with alloy repair, primed and flatted down twice, they're looking good so far and I'm hoping to spray the VW spec silver basecoat on Saturday. Then finally the scary 2 pack lacquer.

the top coils on the springs changed diameter and thickness and the spring top plates changed too, what were originally mk3 golf parts changed to passat parts, I guess they managed to 'tune' the suspension to decrease vibration a little but maintain the handling.

Sounds like the pressure accumulator is leaking, the system should hold pressure for days if not weeks after the engine is turned off, try cracking the metering head feed banjo bolt undone after it stood a night, should get a small spray of fuel out, if not then I reckon the pressure isn't holding as it should.

Some great advice and the e38 forum is great, 50 odd pages to trawl through. I've just sanded cleaned and acid etched a pair of wheels for my 8v today, seems to b coming on ok, hopefully paint tomorrow.

Attacking the heater matrix tomorow..Any tips and hints??
davidwort replied to MedwayCorrado's topic in Engine Bay
did you use 'no-more-nails' ? -
anyway, back on topic, galaxy S2 (incl. data, calls and texts) from 14 quid a month with cashback http://www.mobiles.co.uk/samsung-i9100-galaxy-s-2.html you could have 2 for the price of an iphone contract!

the s3 screen is lovely though, HTC, samsung etc had to differentiate their products somehow and offering bigger screens (HTC Desire HD onwards) was the way they decided to go, especially after the ip4 retina screen came out, now the s3 offers retina like clarity but on a bigger screen, apple have to respond and I think it's generally good for competition that there's more choice now. When I saw the s3 in the flesh in May I was hugely impressed, it looks good, images look fantastic on the screen and it's very quick, for once Apple are playing catch-up IMO. ---------- Post added at 12:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:01 PM ---------- that'll be all the malware and crap you've picked up from porn sites :)

'best' would involve a pressure bleeder, something like an EZbleed (about 15-20 quid) but I'd at least remove (siphon) as much out of the reservoir as you can and then top up with fresh and bleed each bleed point until the fluid runs clear (4 wheels, by the reservoir and the clutch slave), you can just let it gravity bleed, or get someone to press the brake pedal, it's only going to be a small amount from each corner. I've never actually seen a car where the MC seals have been damaged by pumping the brakes and have done it for years on ABS and non ABS VW systems, you're not going to be pumping like mad for hours here, it's just a couple of depressions for each wheel.

2 mins into episode 4. In front of the coach, not very exciting, just thought I'd share. :-)

spring rates are different for front/rear of just about every VW and then many options on the same VW's, there must have been at least 5 or 6 different springs on the corrados, then VW have springs matched to dampers, so technically the 'correct' dampers for a corrado may be quite a model specific item, but the reality is that a generic golf part will do, and in some cases a slightly uprated damper might feel better to us than the original spec VW item, very true on the mk4 golf for instance, most of them were under-damped IMO.

Is this the same merc that clarkson had to pay nearly 2 grand for a coilpack for :)

all you need are a set of second hand springs to refurb, everything else can be bought as pattern parts and most of the spring plates, top mounts etc are widely used bits in the VW range so are still available from VW too. A set of quality aftermarket dampers should do the job fine, they might not last the 20 years the originals did, but they should work well with the factory springs. I've a set of koni dampers (not adjustables) on my 8v with the factory springs and it rides lovely (painted them black insteas of the dark orange they came as), ride height is determined by the springs so as long as the dampers are up to the spring rates of the factory springs it should work fine.

Oops, you're talking touring car camber there! And as for the toe :-D

what type off ££££ would i be looking at
davidwort replied to Ricardo_lombardi's topic in General Car Chat
G6 OKO mmm, there's not exactly thousands of G60 owners out there so I think your market is limited, £80 on top for the transfer at least so I can't see you getting over 500 for it, I agree, more like what BILLCOR says, but you never know. -
tbh I'd use any 10/40 semi synthetic in a 16v, whatever you put in they are going to burn a bit of it, recently I've used quantum silver (on offer at a show) and FUCHS stuff from GSF, even ASDA's own 10/40 semi, it all meets the manufacturers specs for those engines and was all around 10-16 quid for 4 or 5 litres.
-
I've used magnatec before, no issues with tappets or noisy valvetrain from it, seems like a perfectly good quality oil, is it 10/40?

yep, mowing too, can't stand anyone else doing my lawn, I have a 'system' and like it cut 'just so' Mind you, I'm not sure if it's therapeutic or just anal! I once came back from holiday and my father in law had helpfully 'scalped' my lawn for me, this year we made up a story about it having been 'weed and feeded' or something and that it mustn't be cut for a fortnight :)

I've bought primer, celly VW silver colour base, thinner to go with that and then 2K clearcoat (so that's 2k clear + hardener + 2k thinner) plus 7 quid delivery, so it all adds up. I've not used 2K before, I used a single ready thinned clear for my wings I did and although it's not as hard as 2K I thought it would probably be a bit safer and easier to work with, as I don't have an air fed mask (would need 2 compressors). apparently 2k clear is difficult to cut and polish as much harder. 2K clear is a must for wheels I think with all the salt spray and brake dust they get. I like the idea of a 2K primer though, with a few early mistakes using cellulose colour it was a pain dissolving the primer underneath, but with the layers of primer I used for getting the surface smooth it would mean more spraying with 2k than I'm happy with atm. I rigged up a plastic sheeting tent in my garage, one half of a double garage, I then used a fine weave net curtain over a frame I made to let filtered air in to the 'tent' and a long length of 30cm diameter coiled aluminium foil ducting stuff from ebay as the extraction hose, on the end I have a 2 fan mk3 golf radiator fan setup with the tubing connected to the belt driven fan blade side, that way I donj't have fumes flowing over an electric motor! it just runs off an old car battery and I use old T shirts over the ducting as a filter, works ok but paint in the air and fumes build up very quickly in the sparaying area even so.
-
I've had a stab at painting, quite therapeutic actually, a lot of time and prep. And materials end up costing a lot but I just like the satisfaction of having tried something and done what I think is a reasonable job. I've got some wheels I'm starting on now but the paint etc must have cost me near 100 quid

How old are you, and how long have you had your Corrado/Corrado's?
davidwort replied to Overmind's topic in General Car Chat
I bought my first corrado the year they stopped making them and I still have the same one! I've now hit the big 4 - 0 -
are they quiet systems?

might be worth waiting a few weeks until the iphone5 is out, this may affect the offers available on other phones, for me, I fail to see whay you would pay twice as much for an iphone contract over some of the very good android offerings, but then I like to fiddle and the whole apple closed system puts me off more than anything, even if they are nice bits of hardware and slick in operation (I do like the new ipad I use though, at least for the web browsing)
-
sorry, don't have spares but it's the pressure accumulator you are looking at, have you tried GSF and euro CP? they are basically mk2 16v bits also on the early passats so at least they aren't corrado specific.
