  3. that's pretty funny actually, especially the bit about your parents are going to love the ip5, the death of coolness for anything. love that too, I've actually seen that in action, old codgers in John Lewis holding the iPad2 telling each other how amazing the new iPad looks, to be fair for most people the screen clarity improves most by them simply putting their glasses on :lol:

  6. I wouldn't worry too much, if you were about to sell then I see your point, but otherwise I'd just ignore it. Plenty of testers get the rear taper bearing play wrong and write an advisory, depends on who does it. All stations get tested by vosa from time to time and testers have to go on regular assessments and training, just put it down to a grumpy git on a bad day and go somewhere else in future. Perhaps he was trying to generate work, but he's in good company, my boss was informed by his Audi dealer that his a6 needed new pads at the service/mot as they were 80% worn, that's exactly the same percentage they quoted last year :lol:
  7. the Corrado barrel is specific to the Corrado, but it's only the hardened steel black cap that is any different to any other model of that era, so a mk2/3 golf/polo (even transporter I think) barrel will do, and there's plenty of pattern parts for these (around a tenner), they fit fine but have a very subtly different slope to the black cover, which you don't really see on the Corrado anyway due to the steering column plastic cowl. Quality does vary though, so you might want to pop into a GSF branch and have a look at one before buying.
  8. Yeah, all mk3 gti/16v/vr pumps is what I meant, 2l 8v engines use the 4 bar which surprised me, main thing is it broadens the parts available a bit as the corrado pump with it's sender incorporated is model specific otherwise
  9. If it's the one piece pump/level sensor type then a mk3 golf one is the same pump, only difference is the level sensor float arm which can be bent to the right level. I have a second hand golf VR one in my 8v Corrado (which uses the same pump as the VR6 Corrado)
  10. just has an in-tank pump, reach in, twist and remove, pretty easy. from your description of the sound I'd say it's pretty poorly, they will get worse as the fuel level drops too.
  11. they're not cheap, even pattern/refurb ones, I'd imagine somewhere from 100-150 quid, the important thing is to make sure you get the right hub offset for the pulley, they're are 2 on the 16v's and the wrong one will mean your pulleys don't line up. They're not too bad to change, as the PAS belt is the outermost, just make sure you slacken all the mounting nuts otherwise you won't be able to shift the adjuster bolt and/or you will damage it. Somewhere on the forum there's threads with more info so do a search.

  13. been using a new iPad for some months now, I agree they are nice pieces of kit especially when you compare directly with other tablets on the market but it has it's faults even in 3rd generation, it's impossible to hold without adding a case that ruins the design aesthetics, it's heavy and Safari regularly just shuts down when navigating between web pages, there's numerous other glitches too and don't get me started on the frustration of actually getting stuff on and off it, try posting on the forum with pictures from your phone for instance, my 5 year old linux netbook is more user friendly, so they're by no means perfect. Apple have serious competition on price, performance and quality for all their products now but somehow the average public has got 'apple is the best and one to have' quite firmly stuck in their heads and miss a lot of great products as a result. It's no different to the car buyer that religiously sticks to one marque though, without looking at the cost, reliability, spec etc... just assuming that as they are paying a lot of money they will get the best and the badge will impress the girls hanging around at the kebab shop (other fast food outlets are available and may offer better price/performance).
  14. The standard tubes in my wickes lights are pretty white, flourescents do 'go off' though, you can get daylight tubes, used for aquaria etc, but they tend to be double the price

Few specs of dust/fibres in the lacquer which is pretty much unavoidable doing it in a garage but they did come out ok, if you get really close a few sanding marks are visible but you've got to have your nose up against the wheel and it's all experience, you can never prime and flat too much that's for sure! I enjoy doing stuff myself but I can totally see the cost of professional wheel refurbs is justified, tbh I'm surprised anyone makes a living out of it given the kit and work required.

  17. I replaced two dangling 60w bulbs with two 5ft twin tube fluorescents from wickes, great price and so much more light, you can never over-do it with lighting so over-spec, you can always turn one or more off :)

  19. S3 on t mobile for 22 quid a month (26 minus monthly claim backs), 750gb data 300 minutes and unlimited texts Iphone 5 .... You Pay 36 quid a month and have to pay 100 quid for the phone In other words you can nearly get two s3's for the price of a ip5 per month, or over the 2 year contract, have an s3 and buy yourself an iPad or a laptop with the difference...

    Bumper Removal

    You need to remove the whole thing, rears are just 4 bolts underneath but the front is a lot more involved, you need to remove the indicators to get at the wiring connectors and then depending on the model remove side under trays, brake air ducts and wheel arch liner bolts to be able to slide the bumper forwards, you also need to note that the front bumper mounting bolts are the two big ones either side and not the 13mm bolt, and that these support the front cross member, so support the cross member with a jack under the front engine mount point. Covers can only be removed when the whole bumper is off the car as you need access to all the wedge and tabs into the bumper iron.
