I need to bypass my friends G-lader on his rado, whilst it gets rebuilt does anyone know of the top off their heads what belt is needed? I have been told a 590K6 length serp belt will do??
-
I believe its made of cast iron.
-
Dont worry as soon as its fitted i will post up the results...lol

Thats my dream job!! Absolutely stunning work!!

Just got the box delivered today! seems pretty damn good tbh! one thing i was wondering tho... the shift mech.. can i not just leave the cables alone and take the entire shift mechanism out from my 02A G60 box and then fit it to the CTN gearbox..? wouldnt have to mess around with cable setup then would i? Dont think i am going to get around to fitting the box for a few weeks yet as i have a few other things to sort out first.. so just guna clean it up and give it a coat of hammerite smooth black spray paint for the time being untill its fitted! 8)

its nothing silly like the rear boot light not turning off, therefore draining the battery over night?
-
Well its definatley gotta be worth a try! Ive got one on its way now! Not sure when i will get round to fitting it, but when i do i will post up results! Thanks again CTW!

Yep exactly!

i am looking for a cheaper alternative, by the time i ve got another VR box and G60 box and then got all the gears put in, i would prob be looking at £600 in total, it would be nice to find a cheaper alternative that does the same thing.. the CTN box looks at the moment to be the best one. and at £235 its a hell of a lot cheaper...lol And as i do fair bit of motorway driving i like the idea of the lower rpm of the 5th gear at 70 ish... that would also protect the G-lader in the long run, aswell as cut donw a bit of the fuel costs...
-
Think i may have found a CTN box, 75k £235 inclusive of Vat, so not too bad.. only thing is its located in essex! 200 mile round trip! Does this gearbox still make the car feel like a sports car? Its not going to make the car feel lazy is it?

What to expect from a rolling road tune for my g60
Shaggy replied to dirtytorque's topic in Engine Bay
In terms of tuning there isnt alot they can do really.. Your prob better off booking your car into a place like G-werks and let them Give the car a health check and maybe fit a different chip (SNS) They will make sure everything is working as it should. The jabbasport chips are renowned for over fueling, i would reccomend getting someone to fit an SNS chip instead as these chips are much better. Together with a new chip and a health check the car should run spot on! -
I think aslong as you respect the fact you have a 65mm pulley on the car, and dont over rev past 6200 all the time they are fairly safe to use..runnin I had a 65mm pulley on my rado for 16k with no trouble at all really.. The only thing that did happen was that it popped an oil seal when i first blew a toothed belt due to the back pressure... but other than that it was ok! and upon opening it up the other day for a rebuild at G-werks the charger itself still looks spot on! even after the hard times i had been giving it.
-
yeh its a fair bit, but it ll depends on whether you dont mind the 20k rebuilds...lol
-
yes there is defo a difference in my opinion... When i had the toothed belt with a 65mm pulley the car was making 13 - 14 psi... when i changed to a 68mm toothed pulley it only made 10 - 11 psi.. i could defo feel a slight difference.. the 65mm was a little more lively IMO. it wasnt majorly quicker but its gotta be a difference of about 10 - 20 bhp i reckon
-
haha lol
-
20k between rebuilds... hehe probably every 1.5 - 2 years... 8) Theres good 4 psi to be gained when running a 65mm pulley which will make all the difference when running this new head hopefully as its meant to flow really really well for an 8v.

I am leaving the G-lader on the car for now i think... untill i have some more spare cash.. I am going to get the UR Quattro Valved CNC head fitted first and take it from there... Should be knocking on the door of 250bhp with the G-lader running a 65mm pulley so that will keep me happy for a while... then i might look into new chargers further down the line... but i think the power will be sufficient.. especially in a Mk2 Golf.. Also going to properly look into a nice gearbox and LSD setup... the car is a bit of a handfull at the moment.. it just wants to wheel spin all the time... no good when you need traction...lol
-
So what years did the MK3 Golf Diesels come with the CTN Gearbox? Does anyone know?
-
Cheers guys! The Golf was really an impulse buy tbh.. i had always wanted a nice ED1 and this beaut came up during a visit to G-werks... IT had everything i wanted, with little work needed, so i thought f**k it! I still miss the Rado a bit, but tbh.. i was never completely satisfied with it, if you get what i mean.. there was always something that i wanted to change on it.. and could never leave it alone..lol I just wanted to buy a car that was already what i wanted and then add little things to it.. hence the ED1... If i wanted to make the rado into the car i visiualized it would have cost me an Arm & a Leg! and with holidays and maybe a house purchase next year there was no chance of that.. So rather than keep it i let it go for someone else to play with! I bought the ED1 for "top whack" ED1 money and i think i got a good deal tbh.. I had a bit of money tied up in a Lysholm but decided against getting one for the time being as i wanted to keep the bay looking as original as possible.. so rather than a charger I ve got a Super Duper Big valve CNC head coming.. when thats on the car will pretty much be done. ( famous last words :-P )
-
He would.. he did most of the work on it...lol :D

Thanks Goldie! Yeah the colour really does it for me! very hard to Photgraph tho... as it looks black! dammit!... There are a few niggles with it .. but these are very minor.. and will be sorted when i have some spare cash... (scuttle tray needs sorting courtesy of rust..) It goes like a rocket tho! Very nippy indeed! Not quite as quick as the Rado in terms of top speed.. but the low down acceleration is bloody awesome!
-
Just incase anyone is wondering who the foobar i am, i was called "mike_g60" then "auberG" now i am "

I ran it on my Rado G60, seemed to work very well when the weather was hot! and that was with a FMIC aswell as the W/I.. I Defo have plans to fit it to my Golf when i have the time and the money. I didnt run the aquamist system, i ran a cheaper setup... but i think i may opt for the aquamist this time around.
