Link wont work for me for some reason but I think I know the ones you may mean - and I like them!

What wheels have you got on that you are going to get refurbed?
-
Aha - will take a look at this then - thanks

Just read this thread and thought to keep my sunroof working its work me greasing it - its still the original roof - found the part number for the VW grease -G-000-450-02 although I cant find it on line anywhere in the UK - not tried VW yet (last resort) - do any other greases work - I have read NOT to use Lithium. Would a silicone based grease be OK? A si know plumbers use this and I have heard it being used on cars and its defo cheaper that I believe the VW stuff is? Thanks

Pretty sure you cant upgrade the backs to 288 - the rear upgrade is to reduce issues with stock callipers seizing I believe The increased braking performance is only from the fronts being upped to 288 and larger callipers and pads The new news to me is around the additional hoses that i wasn't aware of so have now boobed and bought rear separate from front and now don't have the middles - if I had bought the lot on one go they are 115 for the set as it is ai have paid £50+ for rears and now £72 for the fronts. So will have to see what the mids will cost arghhhh! Thought I had fully researched that before I bought! but nope!
-
Thanks Sean Well I maybe OK - I did a bit of a booboo and bought the hoses for my rears before deciding to do my fronts and bought them from another company with the MK4 callipers. I then decide to do the fronts so contacted Roy and C&R and he is getting the fronts for me - I didn't specify much other than hoses for the fronts - so I may well be getting more that I think? Actually may just fire a message off for him - so how many hoses are there in total - I seem to think the kit contains 6 ?? I have 2 for the rear already and have ordered hoses for the front from C&R

It does look really nice - my only concern is mention of the doors not being flattened correctly before respray - makes me wonder how bad the respray was generally and what it might be hiding!

Hi Sean So if im doing the Mk3 front upgrade and Mk4 rear upgrade with goodridge braided hoses on both - do you happen to know the part numbers for the additional flexi hoses and the best place to order them from? Cheers
-
And hoses with banjos - im using the goodridge ones - think there are possibly cheaper options? So front MK3 Callipers £60 inc the carriers Carriers Hoses (with banjo)£70 288 discs £70 Pads - £35 Plus refurbing the callipers and fitting - think that's around £150 inc vat
-
Obh and sorry did not answer the MK3 callipers including carriers from Purpletom were 60 inc delivery - they need a good wire brush and paint but otherwise all work well.
-
Actually - looking at your aftermarket wheels - are you sure you have the original brakes and not upgraded already - just seeing he large red callipers they look bigger that standard - but I could be wrong! Measure your discs
-
The callipers are second hand one from Golf Mk3 - I think the VR6 .... got them from purpletom on here and think he has more including carriers - I am having my garage give them a refurb and paint too
-
bigger discs on front need bigger callipers and hence bigger pads - you would not get benefit of bigger discs if pad size wasn't bigger too. Not sure if you can go bigger on rear - not seen anyone mention it - so just sticking withwhat I have seen ion here as the recommended. If you have bigger front wheels then yes you can probably go bigger - seen a few people talk about 312mm fronts but don't know any detail - think I have seen some talk about S3 brakes?
-
Just doing the standard. Have the callipers seizing on the back so when I reverse I get a horrible groaning (onloy happens when someone is walkiong by haha) So Rear - Mk4 callipers and braided goodridge hoses - while im doing it im adding some new Brembo discs and pads - the pads are chamfered not squared like the originals - another cause of the groaning Front - Mk3 callipers, 288mm Brembo discs and pads and braided goodridge hoses. These are the biggest discs that will fit behind the standard wheels and apparently give much better braking. - so thought I would get done while doing the back.
-
My garage are upgrading all my brakes next week - I'm sure they will know the above but I didn't so may just let them know incase they don't!

Love this forum.... When not supplying valuable information .... It's providing valuable laughs

Sean have you read further up on this conversation. Tensioners for mk4 look like they can be used
-
Looks like Sean will have a happy ending
-
Did I read on here somewhere that an improvement is to use the top tensioner from a mk4?
