vr6=5stud, g60=4stud so no it won't fit

Nice bit of work done so far. Should be a lovely car when it's finished. The GTI G60 are a lovely car. My golf will look quite similar to that picture after this weekend. It's already well on the way with the engine and gearbox almost ready to come out.
-
True, ford poached vw's interior and styling guys. And who do you think designed the rear suspension in the mk5 golf?? Yes you've guessed it! The same guy that did the focus. So both companies saw where the competition was ahead of them and took the necessary steps to correct the problem. The worst thing about the old focus is the interior, the worst thing about the golf was the way it handled (in standard form at least)
-
The focus are a great car, far better than the mk4 golf in terms of reliability and handling. Anyone who says they wouldn't buy one because it's a ford are living in the past. The days of under engineered, unreliable fords are long gone, these days they are among the best cars on the road.
-
Around what year are you talking about? Known issues with the golf 4 include: Gearbox problems, Door lock problems MAF problems Intercoolers

List for Golf: Remove engine, gearbox, front suspension and subframe. Replace/Recondition/Repaint/Clean (delete as appropriate) everthing in sight. Fit bigger brakes Build uprated engine (2.0l bottom end, ported and polished head) Install engine. Get car set up on rolling road, get front tracking/camber/castor checked Drive down a back road at excessive speed Grin Start on the back end of the car Then I might start thinking about the cosmetics

I don't think a VWFSH is as important with a car like a G60 as most people who would be interested in buying the car when you are selling on will know that it's not that important and will be more interested in seeing receipts for other work done to the car. I do all the work to my own cars and just record it all in a book.
-
I had this problem with my golf (without height adjustment) and it turned out that the bolts were loose. Made a big difference to the way the car felt on the road without the steering wheel moving about all over the place!
-
It sounds to me like either what henny said or a loss of power to the ecu. The fact that the rev counter is dropping to zero instantly would indicate that either the ecu thinks the engine isn't rotating at all and cuts the spark accordingly (so suspect dodgy hall sender or connection) or the ecu is losing all power (bad connection to ecu or faulty relay)
-
lol. I know what you mean! I was just thinking it might be a bit short of space for all the stuff to fit in (injector pump, G-lader, alternator, water pump and pas pump) as the normal G60 is pretty cramped at the front of the engine anyway.
-
Yeah the pump is in a different place on the PD's afaik. Not sure exactly the kind of setup they have though. But I thought you said you weren't going to use a PD engine? A non-PD engine out of a mk3/early mk4 golf would look pretty similar to my one except with fly by wire so no throttle cable.
-
here's a pic of the 1.9 TD engine (indirect injection) the early TDIs look pretty similar.
-
Is there space for the charger or will the injector pump get in the way? Apart from that I reckon it sounds like a good plan to me.

If a mk4 tdi has the d and i in red, what bhp is it????
Geo replied to biggerbigben's topic in General Car Chat
There's definitely a 100PS PD, I've seen them, 74Kw on the sticker in the boot, The 115 is 85kw, 130 is 96kw (didn't realise they came with a 5 speed 'box) -

Geo replied to biggerbigben's topic in General Car Chat
I don' think that's totally accurate It's more like: Pre Pump Deuse: TDI = 90 TDI = 110 Then when the first of the PDs came out in 2000/2001 the 110 was replaced by a PD 115 with a 6 speed gearbox Then when the PD was introduced across the range in 2002 it was: TDI - 100 (5 speed gearbox) TDI - 130 (6 speed) TDI - 150 (also badged GTI) Some people change the badging around on them though so if you are in doubt you can check the sticker in the spare wheel well where it should give the power in KW, I think 130 is 96KW. -
Looks nice mate, what polish/wax do you use. I don't think I've ever seen a red c that shiny before.
-
they are just a self locking nut, some cars have a split pin (mostly jap stuff) but not vws. sometimes they get loose it happened my golf during the summer. Not sure what causes it to be honest.
-
Any decent motor factors/gsf/vw dealer should have them.
-
I changed mine on the golf last year, I reckon it was never changed in 120k miles and 13 years up to then. The difference it made to the car was unbeliveable. I cut the old one open afterwards to see what it looked like. Here are the pics. I think it's fair to say it needed changing

Need to get your other corrado on the road pronto after last night's adventure against the TDI Rich??

Anybody know how to remove and replace a rear quarter panel?
Geo replied to jimbobbalooba's topic in Exterior
It won't be a cheap job. I've no idea of prices for this kind of work in the uk but I'm sure someone will know. -

This is definitely not a diy job. If the quarter panel needs to be replaced you'll have to take the car to a good bodyshop to get it done. -
Dunno how much one costs but have a look on http://www.gsfcarparts.com and you should get a price. The old one has to be pressed out of the hub and the new one pressed in, preferably with a hydraulic press. Could take a garage anything from 1-2 hours, depending on how easily everything comes apart.
