  1. I'm not sure how long it'd take you to do more, but if you get bored I'd have one off you and I'm sure a couple of other people would too... ;) Nice try Dom, A+ for effort  The biggest issue wasn't the actual making of the thing though - that was a day or so with filler and a scalpel, and then painting it (and it was a fun, honest, and would recommend it to anyone). I trial fitted it a few times before actually applying the filler, to make sure it pointed in the right direction. Then lots of sandable filler, and lots of sanding to get it smooth. Cost approx £20 (for the light and filler), and then whatever paint you want. The most character building part of the whole exercise is getting the wires through the 2 or 3 layers of the metalwork of the boot (without cracking the rear window while drilling very close to it), so it can be fed through the rubber boot into the roof of the car, before feeding down behind the c pillar and into the boot so it can be wired into the brake lights. That in itself took me a day or so (yes, I know I am slow).
  2. Like this perhaps?... Wow where is that from or did you make it yourself? I bought a high level light from eBay and then grafted it into the trim around the rear window. Took a couple of days to get it right, but I was happy with the end result, and thanks for the compliment :D
  3. Cheers plateletboy, I thought I'd better check though as it didn't make sense to my little brain :D . VAG-COM doesn't really show anything on mine as it is the older system, however as you say I may as well just change it. VW here I come.
  4. Cool, cheers will try the plugs and leads first. As for engine mounts, the front engine mount is a solid one, I suppose it could be one of he rear ones - hadn't thought of that. Thanks, gives me another thing to check :D
  5. My G60 developed a juddering this morning, when in 1st and at low speed (5-10mph). Seemed to be a rotary juddering, so more engine/gearbox related than brakes related. Now it was really damp and humid and I'm wondering if that is what I'd expect to see if it was a plugs/leads issue? Any advice would be great folks.
  6. So you think the sensor is working as it should be then? I was wondering if these things gradually fail (resiatnce as a function of temp gradually drifts), as I never had much of a difference before (it was always around 29mpg, cold or hot).
  7. Big thanks to Dinkus for organising the calendar group buy. Mine turned up today, and it looks fab :D
  8. Well, the more I look into this the more it seems to be temp dependant. Do my normal journey cold - 26mpg, do it with the engine hot 29mpg. And I've tried doing that half a dozen times, so it's not just a one off. Looks like blue temp sender is the first and easiest thing to try.. Don't suppose anyone knows the part no for one for a 92 G60 by any chance? Save me ordering one from VW, only to find when I get down there, they've ordered me in another headlamp
  9. Yeah Kev, I have a Bentley, will check in there (serves me right for not checking there first, doh). Thanks Supercharged, I thought I'd read somewhere that they degraded over time, so though it best to ask here :D Don't think it's the weather though, it has been quite a marked difference, and it didn't occur last year at this time.
  10. I've had a problem with my G60 recently whereby my mpg has gone down and it feels 'boggy' in the mid range. For instance a journey which I do regularly and used to get 30mpg I now get 27. Recently I've changed the front brakes (but they are not binding - checked that), had the map tweaked (bit it didn't seem to start at exactly the same time), and it has been a few years since the charger was serviced. I read somewhere that a failing blue temp sender can affect mpg - is the the case? Also if it is the case if there a way to test it to see if it is functioning properly (as well as the unplug it and watch for the revs dropping?)? Any advice would be great folks.
  11. Thanks to Jon_vr6 for the ABS light bulbs. Cheers mate :D
  12. Here you go junkie, I've braved the dark and the cold to get some slightly blurry shots  The edges need tidying up, but I've cut away most of what I wanted to. The whole thing needs a good clean and repaint though - very rusty - I presume they're all prone to rusting, the one on my car is like that. Looks like another job for the list :?
  13. Anyone got any pictures of some of the SONAR ones actually on a car (with a late spec front end)? Intrigued to know what the fit is like.
  14. Yeah, yeah, when there is light outside again  Chances of me even finding the shed while it's dark are minimal...
  15. What can I say.... Angle grinder - what a coool toy :D Half an hours work (and one cutting disk later) and have got the rough shape cut out of the metal work in the bumper iron. Just need to go over it with the grinder section now and remove all the rust. Can't believe I didn't buy one of these before now
  16. Cheers guys. Presumably where it is flaking it is safe to go back to the plastic, aslong as I use fine grade paper then. Looks like it's going to be a fun job :)
  17. Thanks for the advice. It is an old bumper. Would you sand it all the way back to the plastic, or just through the laquer and into the old paint layer? Sorry if this a dumb question but the more info I can get the better. Thanks. Presumably plastic primer has more give in it to allow for movement?
  18. Really, even with making a small repair as well? Looking around on a number of other threads on here, I've seen costs of up to £340 for having a bumper redone Darren, which is why I was thinking of tackling some of the prep myself. If you have any recommendations of who would be able to do it for that price then I am all ears :) :)
  19. Yeah, I was starting to think Nitromors would be a bit nasty for it Stu. Looks like sanding it is then. Good job it doesn't need doing too quickly  I presume plastic primer is good enough to use as a base for spraying, but anyone who's done this please chip in - the more advice the better :)
  20. I have an old front bumper which I want to smooth off ready for my G60. At the moment the bumper is red (and a bit flaky) and the car is black, so I'm obviously going to be repainting it. Question is what's the best way to get the old paint off? I was going to use Nitromors, but my local garage warned me off that as it can soak into some plastics. So what is the best method folks? Also it has had a bit of a knock and there is a small hole (approx 1 inch long) where it has split. Whats the best method to fix this - is there dedicated bumper filler, as presumably it needs to be more flexible than panel filler? Any advice from anyone who's already done this would be most welcome folks.
  21. I would recommend taking the charger off yourself and shipping it to G-Werks. It's not a difficult to job to do yourself (removing and refitting it) as long as you can handle a spanner. it is even possible to run the car without the charger, but you need a different belt obviously. If you are getting it chipped as well, then ship them down the ECU as well. Again that is easy enough to remove and refit yourself.

    POWER ISSUES

Strangely enough I had this happen a while back (and there are a few people on here who have had similar symptoms). The usual suspects are, dodgy ECU relay, lose connection to the ECU, hall sender, and dizzy. With mine I replaced the ECU relay and (touch wood) it has not re-occured since. Although I must admit that at the same time I did fix a broken wire to my ISV, so I couldn't rule that out either. Sorry to not be more specific, but always a problem with these 'intermittent' faults.
  23. Strangely enough, one of the reasons I have for doing this is because of results from the rollers, which I suspect may be as a result of heat soak. On the 1st run the boost pressure reached it's max value faster than on the 2 subsequent runs. As such that affected the power and torque. My thoughts were heat soak as so much of the FMIC and rad are covered by the bumper, hence cutting a big hole might sole that problem. Suppose time will tell.
  24. Yeah, I know, common sense says there will be a good improvement, but as with all things it would be good to see some numbers :? Anyway, started on roughing out the bumper today, another little project for 2008....
