Right, trying to get to the bottom of my reduced fuel efficiency problem. Basically I have lost about 2-3mpg recently and the car feels more sluggish. Rolling road day brought up no problems though. Just come back from a 30 mile journey through some stop start traffic and some open road (especially the last bit of the journey). Went to put my hands near my brakes and my rear disks (on both sides) were hotter than my fronts. Is this normal, I would have though the rears would be less used than the fronts? I have the normal 10mm thick standard discs on the rear and 315mm vented AP discs on the front, so I know the cooling on the fronts would be better. And I'm not sayin the rears are red hot (I've had a siezed calliper so know what that does  ). But what I'm wondering is whether the rears are rubbing slightly all the time and if this is reducing my mpg and making the car feel sluggish. Any thoughts welcome...

Yeah, that's mine - it was Blue Joes one. Now sat in my garage waiting for a VR6 clutch kit and lightened flywheel :D They have done quite a few, but they mainly do race car gear boxes. The VW thing is a bit of an occasional sideline for them.

It cost me around £600 for my bells and rotors, but some of that was due to me needing a rare size for my callipers. For 304mm 2 piece discs I would expect it to be around £500 to £550 even so (the bells are £75 ea, then there are the rotors to consider). As for a contact number they are on the web at http://www.bgdevelopments.co.uk/.

You could try what I did. Have a set of bells and rotors made from AP. There is a lot of choice in diameter with the 28mm thick discs, and you can keep the Brembo callipers. Just space them out and buy longer bolts (I went from 305mm Seat discs to 315mm). Basically it all come down to how much space you have to play with, and how big you want to go. Oh, and that bit in th 1st photo, if I recall, is removed on the AP big brake kit for the G60 (they recommend to grind it off for clearance). Best people to talk to are BG developments.

Woo Hoo. Looking forward to a colour change :D 8)

Small world   that's who I used - off up there to pick up my box tomorrow morning. They sound like a good company and come well recommended.
-
ooo, like that zarman, like that alot. Black anodized finished looks really good too :D :D 8)

The way to do this is get interior handles from a later car, along with their surrounds. They are a direct replacement for the early ones (I've done this on my G60).

Mmmmh, changed the blue temp sender, and now the fuel pressure switch (as that was leaking petrol - nice). Neither have had any effect on my MPG. How's this for a thought - the charger is nearing it's rebuild period, although boost pressure hasn't dropped appreciably. Could this be the cause?

it should work on any thing thats vinyl! I havn't tried it on ant thing like that yet?? Ive done the vinyl in the picture and a gearnob they both come out really well! :D Go on then mate - put me down for a couple of black cans. If nothing else it will give people a laugh when I mess it all up  Let me know how you want payment. Thanks.
-
I'd be interested in a can of this in black too please - would it also work with the a, b and c pillars as they are vinyl coated? If so, probably best to get 2 cans please. Let me know how you want payment. I've used specialist spray paint before to change the colour of plastics and it worked really well.

Mmmh, I don't think from the description of what it does that it would account for my reduced mpg then :? Cheers guys. Definately not the hose flusted. Everything is dry apart from the plastic bit of the sender. In fact, when I took it off to replace the seal, I could actualy wiggle the sender slightly by gripping it at either end  New one should be here tomorow.
-
Just had a thought - what does this switch actually do? As in, if it is not working properly, what would be affected? I'm getting some slight mpg issues at the moment and was wondering if this could be the cause :?
-
Not something I suffer from  Besides this changed overnight earlier this week - one day it was fine, the next juddering. Maybe my foots got lighter
-
Mmmh, yes it could be. Only really seen it in 1st, although that could be something to do with me going slow enough to feel it. Didn't do it today - looks as though it is going to be one of 'those' types of problems
-
I keep a good eye on those - I had one fail on me last year, and I replaced them. So ,fingers crossed they will be OK :) But I know what you mean - never nice to spill your hard earned petrol especially on a hot manifold....
-
Yep, think I'll order one tomorrow :(
-
Strangely enough the porting is still going on. I had the elbow welded up so I could remove loads more material (I will get a photo when I have a few spare mins). In the end I decided not to knifeedge anything, just to smooth out any shoulders. I am planning on getting quite a bit of work done before too long and I hope this will be one of the bits which will be ready to go on by then. Will keep you informed.

Oh well, got a replacement blue temp sender today from VW. Doesn't look exactly the same as the old one (and couldn't find a part no on the old one). Fitted it though and the engine ran fine. Lets see if this does the job.....
-
Mmmm, got a replacement seal today. Took the sender out, and there is no way a leaky seal would account for there being petrol on the brown section of the sender :? . Do these things physically fail, could the sender unit itself crack, and let a small amount of petrol through?
-
I have an audi that does exactly the same. Under load in 1st gear when pulling away a judder rips through the car. I can't see how it can be the ignition system tbh?!?? It's alright, the initial thought I had was the juddering was due to a misfire, hence the thoughts about the iginition system. However when I thought more about it, it seems to occur on riding the clutch in 1st, rather than anywhere else, hence I'm now owndering if it is the clutch...

Right, must be the time of year for things to go wrong. Just got home and stuck my head under the bonnet and got a whiff of petrol. Never nice :( Seems to be coming from the fuel pressure sender (see the attached ridiculously fuzzy picture - the pressure sender is damp with fuel. Nooooo). Does anyone know if this has a replacable gasket, and whether they are prone to going/easy to replace? Thanks.
-
Mmmh, bit more on this. I've had a look at al the leads, they seem fine. The spark plug heads seam fine as well (no corrosion). It doesn't judder on tickover, only seems to be bad when in 1st and with the clutch partially pressed. What does a failing clutch feel like, and is it safe?
-
Cheers pb, I'll try that when I get the chance...
-
Absolutely, but with the odd jobs I have mounting up I wont be taking on any others for a while. Besides I think everyone should be able to experience the joys of working with filler and sandpaper, before realising it is pointing 90 degrees downward
