  1. I want to change the rear pads and discs on my G60, and I've had a look around with the search on here for advice. There is a WIKI article for the fronts but not the rears, and I'm wondering whether anyone has written something similar (or can point me in the direction of one). Ideally I need the part numbers for things I need to buy (I know I need the rear wheel bearings, but is it the innners as well as the outers for instance) and which bits if any can be re-used, and whether there is anything I should beware of, and tips for setting up the bearings? Thanks folks.
  2. Yay, finally Dom. Good lad, well worth it. Cracking stereo by the way, very impressed.

    Brembo brakes question

I just have the Seat calliper carriers (as used for the brembos), as the mounting holes are the same (don't forget mine are Boxster and not Boxster S callipers). Best thing to do is find a set of Boxster S callipers and measure the distance between the mounting holes, to make sure they are the same as the carriers.

    Removing AirCon

I've removed the air con from my G60, as like you it hadn't worked since I got it (and I wanted and FMIC 8) ). If it's like a G60 most if not all of the stuff under the bonnet can just be removed and new belt put in. Under the dash, there is wiring, and a big plastic trumpet thing which the fan is attached to. That should be removed and replaced with a normal one (for one thing it will free up some space as the air con systems are bulky). I haven't bothered changing the distribution box for a non-air con one. If you don't chnage that it isn't a dash out job, as most of the stuff is beneath the passenger side of the dash.

    Brembo brakes question

Seems as though I can't do anything the easy way  If I had Boxster S callipers, the Ibiza Cupra R discs would be a direct fit as they are meant for 28mm thick discs. As I have Boxster callipers, thye are meant for 24mm thick discs, so the Seat ones don't fit (without grinding down that pads  which is what the previous cowboy owner had done). Hence I've gone to AP and got ones which are the right thickness for me, but I've gone bigger than I have at the moment (315mm as opposed to 305mm), so I need to space my callipers out further.

    Brembo brakes question

On the AP racing website.... There is a selector on there, which you can feed in your diameter and it will tell you what rotors are commonly available. I say commonly, as there are some which aren't on that list. I was told by the supplier I was dealing with that only about 50% of the available disks are on the website which can be accessed by the public - for example the ones I've gone for weren't on that list. Best thing to do is find your nearest supplier and give them a call and they will be able to search the entire catalogue.
  7. The G-Werks chip will be an SNS one. SNS chips are excellent as they don't overfuel the car (the Jabba ones tend to run very rich), and they have the anti-digilag in them (best to have a look on their website for this http://snstuning.co.uk/digilag.php.
  8. Just a quick note to say I've got some ThermoTec Copper Gen II wrap for a pretty good price from a company called Pyscho Bikes - 01544 319164 I got a 2" by 50 foot roll for £40 delivered, which seems to be way cheaper than I've found anywhere else (usually around £55-60 including postage).
  9. Had some success yesterday - managed to get through to one of the guys I know and managed to order the things I needed :D :D . Just wish everyone was as useful as that, rather than seeming to hate their customers. Apparently they wont take credit card details over the phone as they don't want to have peoples details on-site there. If they do they are then responsible for them, in case they are stolen.
  10. Cool, cheers Kev. Looks like Termo Tec make Thermo sleeve (it's one part of their range).
  11. Found Thermotec wrap - is that the one you're refering to?? Can't find thermosleeve :(

    Brembo brakes question

Thanks again. As you've got standard Brembo callipers it should be a lot easier (and have loads more options) for discs to upgrade to. AP racing have loads of different discs with 28mm thickness, but mine needed to be thinner. I ended up with ones which aren't even on their normal catalogue (lucky me) which had enough pad clearance to clear my Boxster callipers, combined a large enough central hole to fit over the hub.
  14. Ok folks, here's an update of where I've got it so far. Just been polishing with the coarsest grade compound I've got - 2 more to go. Quite happy with how it's coming, but welcome any comments :D :D Going to take the other section to my local mechanic tomorrow to see if he'll put a bead of weld on to help with removing more material.

    Brembo brakes question

Thanks G60SC_Stoney, the bottom image is just what I need :notworthy: :thumbleft:
  16. OK then Kev, looks like lagging it is then. I see you used Cooltek stuff in he past. Do you rate them well, if so I may as well go with that?? Also do I need to paint/seal the lagging afterwards to make it act less like wick and stop it soaking up water or oil?

    Brembo brakes question

At the moment I've got 305mm Seat ones. Problem is the Porsche callipers I have aren't the Boxster S ones (something the previous owner of them didn't let me know unti, after I'd fitted them). So basically the cowboy had ground down the pads to make them fit by taking 2mm of each one (the callipers I have are meant for 24mm thick discs when the Boxster S ones are 28mm or the same as the Seat discs). To save me having to to that again when it comes to changing the discs and pads I'm having some bells made for a pair of AP rotors. The new ones will be 315mm diameter, and I should be able to use the pads without modification. Obviously larger discs need a calliper spacer, hence the request.
  18. Cool, cheers guys. Looks like it's more of a "keeps under bonnet temperatures down a bit" thing to do then, rather than "huge power differences" related. Quite like the idea of ceramic coating that I've seen to keep temps down as well. Would occupy less space than the wrap as well.

    Brembo brakes question

Sorry, maybe it wasn't clear. After the distance between the two holes through which the calliper bolts screw into on the carriers. Just thought it would be easier to get from someone if they had them off the car (saves me taking my wheel off and groveling around when it should be nice quick job for someone with a set off the car). Basically I'm getting some 2 piece discs for my fronts which are bigger than the 305mm discs I already have on there. As such the calliper will need spacing out further, and I was going to get 2 spacers made, but need the distance between the holes to get them made up.
  20. Up until now I have had a good relationship with the parts guys - but it seems as though they have some new muppets in who can't think for themselves. But it seems as though different places behave differently, so is it down to each specific dealer to make up their mind whether they'll take orders over the phone?
  21. They wont even take payment over the phone - which is really maddening. Apparently they've been scammed before. Oh dear. Wonder if I can set up an account with them??
  22. Cheers folks, so it seems to be more of a location policy than a company one. Nice to see they are consistant. In a vain hope of getting some sense I've left a message for the manager raising concerns over the nature of his customer service (given they were really a***y) and how daft it is to require payment up front for a few quids worth of bits to then have to come back a few days later and pick them up. Nice to know about Slough though, if the worst comes to the worst.
  23. Just been on the phone to my local VW garage (Argents of Heathrow) to order in some bits and have been told that they can't take orders over the phone - company policy. How mad is that?? Been ordering stuff until a couple of months ago. Wouldn't mind but it's about 20 quids worth of bits, and it takes me about an hour round trip to go and get them. Obviously really don't want an hour to go and order them as well. Does anyone know if this is standard 'company policy', or whether they are just having an ego trip?

    Brembo brakes question

Bump, no one got a set of these off the car at the moment???
  25. Hibernate...... Oh, and if I ever get round to measuring up for some callipers spacers, new, bigger 2 piece AP racing front discs (on order, woo hoo), a peloquin in a G60/VR6 box (please Santa, please let me have a Peloquin - the box is all ready for you), and a four branch manifold (please Darren).
