  1. I bought a genuine new vw 280mm red one off ebay last month for about £40. Result. Exactly the same as my vr one
  2. My car has air con, and the previous owner has fitted a recent 70a alternator with a smaller pulley. So I'm looking for the above please[emoji298]

    Sunroof problem

oo, I've read that you can turn the inner panel 90° and removed it that way. BUT have tried and cannot do it. My headlining is out, so I've slid it backwards and out the boot. Although if you are just wanting to move the inner back to gain access, give it a shove and it comes off its clips to allow access to the metal panel
  4. Gumtree, £2500 for a late vr6 with leather and air con. In Cambridgeshire. Could be worth a look

    Sunroof problem

From the outside roof of the car, it should sit 1mm below at the front, and 2mm higher at the back. Adjustment is made from the inside by the 2 bolts on either side of the panel. This is probably too late, but may help others
  6. I hope you got the sunroof sorted. My 2nd replacement sunroof was working ridiculously at times due to its own resistance in the mechanism. After stripping it down, fully degreasing, then refitting and lubricating using sunroof grease it is a totally different unit. Complete with a mk3 golf sunroof motor and all is going well so far. It was definitely the LH side which was struggling to slide, which on mine seems why this cable side may snap. Thanks to some great advice on here, I will lubricate this annually. Strangely enough I enjoyed the challenge of sorting the Damn thing.
  7. Mine were beyond any sort of refurb unfortunately. So the search continues. I'm still waiting for vw heritage to let me know what they can do, unless someone on here has some spares. Aghhh
  8. Alternative part, does anyone know whether 1J0615311A and1J0615312A would fit the vr6? They look very similar to the 3A0 numbered part. What do people think? I may just have to bite the bullet and buy a set to see if they will fit. Getting desperate as I'm ready to put my suspension back on...
  9. Thanks. I'll try and find a picture on the internet now I know where to look
  10. So I have some kind of resistor on a bracket under my header tank on a VR. Should this not be fixed somewhere and to something !!
  11. I've just checked my originals that are still here. The longer one is actually thicker. IBelieve the j and r ones are supposed to be made out of a stronger motorsport material (or was that just to sell it to me) so perhaps that is the reason why they are the same diameter
  12. Slow!!! I get carried away taking rusty old bits of the car. One day hopefully it may be sorted. Although it Is satisfying when something finally works. How's yours?
  13. I'm still searching..... VW heritage are also looking into this. I've got another vw part number I want to order and see if it's a close fit. But for now I'm having no joy with anyone....
  14. How much for the number plate light? I'd like to dream about the outer trim parts but might not be able to afford those [emoji3]
  15. I just kept searching the internet until help could be found. Good luck. Ask dmb anyway, as he is extremely helpful
  16. Did the early spring plates fit, as i think i have the same problem. The monroe springs dont seem to fit correctly to my narrower (90mm) late VR spring caps. Did you have any other issues with the top mounts? And did you get some different monroe springs or just a wider plate? Sorry to be a pain

Well after dismantling my sunroof, degreasing everything I started from the beginning. I lubed the sliding parts and channels, but not the cables, just to see how it went. Sliding was good, but the nearside components weren't working together correctly. After lots of pictures and comparing to the other side, I noticed the rear spring mechanism want releasing correctly. It involved a lot of force from the cable pushing on the main slider to release the back part which drops and locks into the channel. ( I think I understand why it breaks now) Further investigation showed the spindle arm it sits on was slighty angled up, which stopped the two mechanisms coming together and easily releasing the lock so it could slide back. Also side on part of it was very slightly past the side channel due to the angle lifting it slightly.I took this side apart and with gentle heat and pliers managed to bend it a little. So another re assembly and an improvement, but not perfect. I was going to grind a better angle on the catching mechanisms to help it release, but decided to try one of the old carriage parts I had. Result, it only bloomin works. All I can think is there may be some slight profile difference from the shiny ones, to an original dark older one( 722 686 920) So the roof is in the car, working for now, lubed up, with a mk3 golf motor on. Time will tell. I'm not going to put everything Back yet as I was getting the internal panel re trimmed, so I can see how it is still working in a week whilst on my drive on bricks!! Just got to send this corrado sunroof motor back to who I bought it from as all it does is click!! Happy days...for NOW
  18. 1 painted with black smoothrite, the other about to be done. Then another coat on both tomorrow. I'm impressed

That would be nice. And if they could make VR front brake splash shields, life would be good.

I thought I'd solved the problem going for the Moonroof, fitting my steel panel and keeping the original interior panel. I managed to glue some fixings to make the interior panel slide forward and backwards but hadn't got round to sorting the tilt... Unfortunately that sunroof broke on the part which drops the wind deflector, so I'm starting again. I'm wary of lubricating the cables in case this causes it to drag on the wooly bits and increase friction. Damn things. It does look good now I've removed everything and degreased it all. Just waiting on the sunroof lube coming. I received a corrado motor today, but it doesn't look as substantial as the golf one I have (possible wear on the cog)

The mk3 golf motor I had does fit on this panel. I have a later VR and so the connection plug is the same rectangular block which fits into the motor. Seems okay as a fitment

My very first one snapped that way. The second one was a mk3 golf one which snapped at its wind deflector rod!!! I'll give this document a good looking at. Hopefully when clean, free and lubricated this one may be ok, even with a tab missing.. All I need now is to refurb the internal panel as it's in a bad way..
