It would be great if someone had done this. Mine was broken in exactly the same place. I decided to do the mk3 golf upgrade, but kept my metal panel roof. Unfortunately 2 months later after half a dozen openings that has broke!! Whilst I had my old one out of the car and in pieces I bonded the broken casting using Q bond. I've never put the sunroof back together yet, but the repair is still in one piece. It's worth a try maybe. It would be great if someone did a replacement part. Maybe one day

Thanks for the reply. I'm after a original sunroof mechanism hopefully, as it is a glass one i have fitted which has also broken. Damn things, so its back to the original way hopefully. I'll let you know on the speedo surround as i had ordered one off of flea-bay but it has'nt arrived yet.

I've just done the rear of my VR too. The rear valve is definitely a good item to replace more. I also took the opportunity to replace all the rusty steel brake lines for some nice cope ones. Replace the rear abs sensor at this point as its a pig to get out and will only involve you removing everything you have put on. Handbrake cables are an easy swap and make sure you have the wire clip that holds it off the axle at the bush end. my favourite of the mk4 calipers is fitting a handbrake return spring to it. It makes it feel like a modern vehicle. Goodluck mate.

handbrake cable (axle spring clip picture.) please

the good news is I've had the wrong part. Even tho it was genuine it isn't for my car. result. Thanks to VW Sheffield my life has one less hassle. I have tried to upload some pictures to show the differences, and at 2.5MB my pictures are too big!!! So i give in. Shame really as i also bought the grommets which go on the handbrake as it enters the cabin. Pukka little items which mine didn't on even tho they were genuine parts. Happy days -
My switch is exactly the same part number with exactly the same problem. I soldered a new lamp in a month ago, bingo it works. Never goes off now tho!! Its a cheap fix, just awkward to get a good solder joint without upsetting anything other joint on the circuit board

After a long read ive found the picture. Unfortunately as i try to zoom in i can not make out how the clip fits.... Can anyone else help please -
Could anyone post me a picture up of how the handbrake cable axle clip is positioned please. The ones near the Bush. I've been looking all over but can't seem to find one. I was feeling all happy after finally getting my refurbished axle back on. Complete with new suspension, brakes, the lot. But this is baffling me. Any help greatly appreciated. NOT the ones that clip onto the underside of the axle that wrap around the actual handbrake cable

So i bought M905 MHM which has the Diavia aftermarket dealerfit Aircon. Today i got a great guy (car cool air conditioning services, South yorkshire)to come out and have a look at it. After a quick check over, pressure test and regas-IT ONLY WORKS... Miracle. Here's hoping it lasts. A query i do have is the front grille. It only lets air flow in through the top slat. The other two are a complete plastic item. I would have expected an aircon car needing lots of airflow. The part no. is 535 853 653. I've noticed other grilles for sale that have gaps between every slat. Will this cause me any overheating problems? And just when i think everything is going well, a look at the heater flap box reveal a broken cog at the bottom........aghhhh so its time to find a replacement(if anyone has one) and get the dash out. Again :mad2:

I know it's been a long time, but are your alloys still for sale? Thanks, Richard

Thank you to everyone for the helpful words and advice. With any luck the rear axle, suspension and brakes should be on this week. Then it will be time to look at the front end.... The ABS light never came on, so that has been repaired and now does'nt go out:oops: but im working on it. Ive had the whole interior out for a good clean and shampoo so that was a good point. The rear arches have been wax oiled although a slight hole needs a patch welding on it. I continue on my quest to restore her to some former glory and an MOT. Adrian, great of you to get in touch. You will be welcome to have a drive of her one day. Did the aircon work when you had the car? and did you put the OZ Polaris alloys on her? The spanners are busy and i look forward to meeting everyone one day. The bodywork will be the last job. Back in the garage for me now :smug:

After finding and reading more write ups, one suggestion was that the lamp inside was blown. I've soldered a replacement and it only works!!! All be it is on all the time. Time to find the fault
