I decided to put a scan on her tonight and guess what, NO FAULT FOUND apart from the speed signal usual. Strangely I then started her, all good then it dropped the revs and went lumpy, then back to being good. Revved smoothly and dropped fine but with what seems a slightly lower idle. See recording Messing with the sensors has definitely done something, so I shall get these changed. Perhaps it is heading in the right direction ๐ค Check out the mileage. Hopefully I may get to do another couple ๐ 20220807_205412.mp4

I had a good read, thanks

VR6 ABV crank position sensor question - now fuel pressure issue
Cressa replied to fendervg's topic in Engine Bay
Just been having a good read of this. Shame the links to the threads on page 4 dont work anymore. Definitely giving me something to think about with my cars issues at the moment -
That pipe is one the aircon ones. I eventually found it underneath, thanks. Still not a great amount of room. Taken out, cleaned and put back in as there isn't much else I can do with it today. She started fine but has a lumpy idle and the exhaust fume smell is horrible. I also took the Camshaft sensor off, cleaned, tested and put it back. Not really sure of how it is, but I did test for resistance at it. 13 ohms between 1+2 8 ohms between 2+3 I shall try and source the genuine items and change both of these as I believe them to be the original fitted items. Change each 1 and try the car. I did record her starting just need to upload it when I am back home Why did you change yours and did it solve the issue? Also where did you get it from? Thanks gents ๐

Glad to see there is a lot of room to see things ๐๐ญ๐ญ

I will have a better look tomorrow as anything is possible. Although I thought I mouse proofed it last year with a rubber draught strip that stuck to the floor
-
I used a neoprene foam strip that is adhesive on 1 side fof the seals, Ebay. For the flaps I used felt and stuck them on. Plenty of choice but worth the effort.

Car sounds in fantastic health, so well done in getting her to this point. I used one of those phenolic spacers too due to limited choice. As they are supposed to reduce heat transfer I didn't see it as a bad thing. Oo I would love a remap and cams

Thanks for your help Dox. I cleaned and tested the ISV. Works fine and is just over 8ohms as ABV finds with his I cleared the fault codes and they stayed off. The car started perfectly and instantly, at 1200, then 1000 then slightly lumpy. Definitely not right. It is also very noisy without the damper box Just done a rescan and got 00553 mass air flow sensor(G70) 29-10 short to ground- intermittent 00518 throttle position sensor(G69) 30-10 open or short to plus - intermittent 01257 idling speed stabilisation valve(N71) 31-10 open or short to ground - intermittent 00513 Engine speed sensor (G28) 03-00 No signal I need to look where this crank sensor is. Hopefully due to short cranking I can discount the cam sensor. I shall have to dig out some wiring diagrams to find where connections go to and test the wiring properly, not a 2 minute job though

The damper box has definitely had a bad day. I have a Schrick and have just read this should be removed anyway!! So shall try and clean the ISV and put it back together without the box. I need to look how to test this hall sensor?
-
And so the day starts. Plugged into VCDS, 4 faults found for engine, see pic. 00515 hall sensor 17978 engine start blocked by immobilizer 00545 Engine transmission short to ground 00513 Engine speed sensor Not worried about the last one. Time to start looking ๐

I will look at that tomorrow. Annoying that due to lack of use she wants to do to me .....
-
Dox, are you thinking item 15? I'm about to read up on all these items
-
It is that sort of area.. tomorrow I will dig deeper into this. 1st port of call is to see what Vagcom says Then I shall start taking parts off... Disappointed. ๐คฌ๐คฌ

And today some bad news. Admittedly I have ignored the Corrado lately due to a mk2 golf project blocking her in. Because of this I haven't done my usual weekly starting to get warm. Watch the short video of her complaining about this.. I am a big believer that these should be driven and not parked up. Damn 20220805_153202.mp4 I started her up today and she was not happy. Rough idle and stinks. Perhaps bad fuel I am thinking but then it starts to smell of burning rubber / PVC / electrical maybe..... I turn her off and have smoke rising from the rear of the engine bay (see video) BOLLOX ๐ซ๐ซ. I cant see where from so tried to start it again but something went pop at the rear of the engine. Now she just turns over. Occasionally fires once but then nothing ๐ค๐คจ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ

https://the-corrado.net/topic/51865-r32-starter-motor-on-vr6/ I've just had a read of this.
-
Does sound like a starter motor issue. It's always good to change the ignition switch as it rules that problem out ๐ I thought the mk4 v5 starter motor was supposed to be the upgrade !! Can you get yours off and get it refurbished?
-
๐คฃ๐คฃ atleast you sorted it ๐
-
Totally understand. I expected the guy from MAES to give me that sob story, but he just turned up and got on with it. Pressure testing it always stressed me out incase I had a leak, or the o rings were dry from lack of use. Be nice when you have it sorted tho ๐
-
We need a meet when my car gets to come out. I had MAES in Rotherhan come out to do mine. They have a mobile van, even on a Saturday, or did last year anyway !!!
-
A great idea, but too big for me. Do we have enough forum members for anything these days? I hope so. Thanks for looking into it ๐
-
Congratulations. Always a good time
-
Nice motor. Well done with the sale, I shall wave to the car as it goes past me at J31
-
100% totally agree ๐

Mate, that VSR is still super gorgeous. I think I paid 1300 for my Schrick 3 years ago which still needed a full refurb and parts on top of that cost. They aren't cheap, but are quite an easy bolt on modification
