I will be really dissapointed if the bearings have gone as my motor has only done 82K with FSH. Still you never know - I just might be that unlucky. :(

I've just got back from my holiday and have now had a chance to take a look at my motor. What I found was... The Knock sensor wire had been tie wrapped to the adjacent cooling hose. When I removed the wrap I found that the insulation had chaffed right through to the braiding underneath! So I will start by replacing the knock sensor - which hopefully should cure the rattle (fingers crossed) Gavin you have e-mail

I'm with Gavin on that one Jonny My MK1 did exactly the same a while ago - turned out to be a dry joint on the fuel pump relay
-
Cheers Henny - will take a look tonight and check that the torque is correct. Any Idea how much a new one is? Ta
-
Can anyone tell me more about the knock sensor ie. where it lives, what it looks like etc..... Ta
-
Hmmm.. Knock sensor sounds like a good place to start! Where does it live, whats involved and how much? etc (will check Bentley manual tonight) Note - When I bought the car it was badly overfueling (12mpg) so I took it to Jabba to sort the problem out - which they did. However it has always had this little rattle ever since which has started to get worse. Either that or I'm becoming more & more paranoid about it.

My 80k FSH G60 has a very slight engine rattle between 3k & 4K RPM. Having listened to the lump with my stethoscope the rattle appears to be coming from from the bottom end. :( I have just fitted a brand new oil pump to see if it was that which was packing up but it has only quietened the rattle down a little - however the noise reduction could be due to new Quantum Silver oil. It does'nt sound like the lifters to me (It's not tinny enough - it's more of a dull rattle if you know what I mean) but I will need to investigate this further by inspecting them. The motor also seems to tick over a little lumpy which again could indicate lifters. But I have my doubts as the noise appears to be from the bottom end. So it looks like it may be the bottom however I will need to investigate this when I get back from my holiday in 2 weeks time. The motor on mine is tuned to around 220bhp so the bottom end may be seeing an excelerated life cycle causing it to wear quicker. Has any one got any other theories on this or had a similar problem at 80K :?:

I've just bought an iPAQ and installed the TomTom3 GPS sat nav software on it. It also came with a free speed camera pack that works in the same way as the Road Angel, but with this method you get the route finder and a pocket pc for the same price(ish) as the Road Angel. I'm also running a SD715iS snooper to pick up the mobile and laser too - this works okay but you pick up a lot of shite like automatic shop doors and traffic lights.

I left this guy some neutral feedback on E-Bay - not negative - only neutral I just said it took a lot of faffing about to get it to work and he got shitty saying it's a fault with my computer! I have since left him a note to come and check out this thread if he does'nt beleive me. So If you are reading this - Maybe you should atempt to address the problem or at least let people know that it does not work well with IE6 etc in your ad. Instead your first reaction is to slate the buyer for identifying a problem with the goods! Still at the end of the day your nothing more than a software pirate and we are foolish enough to line your pockets. Tosser

Just had a Milltek fitted to my G60 and it does the same thing - got a saxo driving scrote with it the other day - got right next to him for the gear change and BANG! right next to the open window - bloody great.
-
I've just had a Milltek system fitted to my G60 and I'm very pleased with it. :D It sounds pretty beefy on tickover but is very quite under exceleration etc. I had it profesionally fitted and the garage said it was well made and very straight forward to fit. It's early days yet as the system has only been on for a couple of days now but all the signs are good. However if anything does go wrong I'll let you know. JMR are extremely nice to deal with and I have no problem reccomending them to anyone. (and I already have)

Did it macke much difference over the std one?

Had'nt thought of that! Wonder how much she'd fetch on E-bay

Today is a sad day for me. My MK1 Golf goes to its new home  I have owned her for 4 years - which does'nt sound like a long time but when you consider that I'm 35 and have owned 32 cars it gives you some indication how frequently I change my ride! The Golf has been sold to finance my G60 Corrado upgrdes which makes it a little easier. I have also sold it to my mother who lives in Spain so at least it will see its days out in sunnier climate and won't be driven quite so hard. 8) Just thought I'd share that one with you.... :(

Whats the fastest you have ever been in your Corrado?

Man that s**t sucks... I'd give a months salary just to catch someone doing that to my motor - I really would - it'd be worth it just to see the look on their face as I take a f**king claw hammer to them! I hope you find find them  -
VW used to offer a glove box option for MK1's - it fits straight into the standard radio opening! Its the ideal size for putting your sunglasses or mobile phone in - well handy. I bought one a while ago for my cabriolet the part number is 321857233B01C and it cost £6.99 +vat. It should fit a Corrado too as all the stereo cut outs are the same size 8)
-
Better off putting it in a Beetle or camper - much easier to do than a Corrado
-
I also heard this to about a stock 1.8 GTi cam - came from a good source too
-
I might be wrong but it could be the abs sensor in the brake shoes - if the shoes are worn you could have metal to metal contact with the abs sensor which might explain the grinding and the fault. Like I said I may be completely talking crap but I think there may a sensor embeded in the pad?? My Corrado does not have abs but I had a similar problem to yours on my Jag that was caused by what I have explained.
-
I see both you guys are MK based?? Maybe we should meet up at some point - It would be good to meet some like minded individuals

Was gonna sell her but could'nt bring my self to do it

What's the top end on a tuned G60? I've had mine up to 150mph a couple of times (whilst on autobahn) this is on the speedo and not timed so not too sure 4real. My freind also has a tuned edition 1 Golf that'll hit 155mph on the speedo.
