  1. I did not really need a new battery, but have got one coming to me. (Varta silver) Consequently, my 2002 Quantum from bought new from VAG dealer is up for grabs for free. I use an Airflow trickle charger all the time and this battery still holds its charge and starts the VR6 readily, even if disconnected from the charger for over a week. PM me and I will arrange to let you know when battery is available for pickup. Should get my replacement delivered and installed by weekend. If no one is interested, clearly, it will go for recycling, but I genuinely feel it could be useful to someone still. Iain
  2. I have the Airflow conditioner. It has kept my Quantum 62Ah June 2002 battery in strong condition to date! Should I renew battery now, though, guys?
  3. Pics at South Queensferry on warmest ever March day (27th). 24C at Aboyne. We had about four days in a row with 20-22C. It is now 6C having plunged from 11C in minutes and is snowing in the north.
  4. Cheers. - Down among all those agricultural and forestry folks - probably into messing about with diesels and things like that since you were 2!
  5. My Varta went in the car in June 2002. Trickle charger gives unbelievable longevity and power in my experience.
  6. Is your VR6 engine running properly? I get 32 mpg on typical run like today's. In town, mixed roads, up to 80 brief spells on Mway.
  7. Thanks Paul! Sailed straight through this time and payment by Paypal. Best regrds Iain
  8. One of our sons had one for about a year. The VAG service/parts bills were horrendous - at least from our experience.
  9. Dagnappit! My membership has lapsed and I cannot register or get a username or password on the site. Also it says it does not have my email address. It must have - I have had the same one for ages. I am going round in circles - anyone help, please?
  10. Interesting and impressive project - well done Rich_T. In which part of Scotland are you located?
  11. They also supplied an alloy crack pipe (bottom of cooling system). You buya da car (£4.2K) you getta dese alloy bits!
  12. There was a group buy a few years ago when some of us bought the aircraft grade alloy replacement by Gruvenparts of US.
  13. These tales are always helpful to everyone and help build our knowledge of what sh!t can happen to us unwitting souls. Remember, though, guys, you do not need to use your current-drawing fog lamps unless the visibility is less than 100 metres in fog/smoke or blowing snow. IIRC. In Scotland, the police will delight in booking you if you do.
  14. You are so lucky - I wanted to do things like that but ran out of opportunities and commitment, due to pattern my life took. I am 66 and have a bought-new Schecter Strat and Boogie Mesa Studio amp still waiting to be used again "when I get more time". doh! At 14, I should've plucked up courage 1959-ish and gone to speak to those boys playing skiffle (tea-box/broom handle bass) on our tenement's back green. lol! I didnt even get a record player until I started work at 19 in 1964 - fat chance of getting a guitar before then from my mother.
  15. A singer, too, Wullie? You never cease to amaze.
  16. I have been mellowing, Wullie. My last purchases were DVDs of The Transatlantic Sessions. I met Aly Bain at Queen St station several years ago in a taxi queue. I told him how great that (then) new series was. "Write and tell them" he said. I didnt, but the idea has taken off big style and is in series 6 next iirc. Alison Kraus, Julie Fowlis and Karen Mathieson backed by supreme musicians/pickers from Scotland Ireland US Canada, etc. Bliss when you need it.
  17. Thrash punk? Man - I am 66 - it took me ten years to get used to Johnny Rotten! lol!
  18. Dont like to moan about the forum - havent actually done so ever tbh. Grateful to Andi and ors who have kept it in great shape fo eons! However, I now find the system more of a pita than it has ever been. I was trying to edit/delete Gallery posts and it did not respond
  19. My hunch about this rare item was right - watched it go for £950. Went to local guitarist who said he did not know if it worked either - but still glad to get it. I was only prepared to bid £400 max. Even when you think you are the only person looking at such a rare item, others are after it, too. Someone even bidding by phone on this.
  20. In Northern England auction is a 1962 Fender Tremolux Blonde (piggyback) guitar amp. I have seen it and clean looking valves all in place. Item does look a bit scruffy, but it is a 50-year old classic. Rules are that everything is sold as seen. Does that apply to electrical things like this? The difference in price between badly-blown unit and working could be £hundreds - even more? What would you pay for one assuming worst - ie it is u/s.
  21. Yes, my VR6 does 24mpg at worst in stop/start/urban and 31-37mpg on long runs mixed with some urban. A happy engine!
