Guy goes into VW garage with his Corrado and reports "My foglight glass is broken!" Crabby old service manager says "Ah, sir, you've been using 'em, haven't you?" Certainly in Scotland, foglights should only be used in weather conditions comprising visibility of 100 metres or less, particularly in fog or blowing snow. Over the year as a whole, these criteria are rarely reached in most of the UK. From heresay, the police here seem to delight in booking posers in swish motors who flaunt that law. IMO, these expensive glasses break so easily through thermal stress, it is best to leave the front fogs off unless the fog is so thick you are having to drive at 30 mph or less.

Just ordered a couple of these - thanks for heads up. Funny, while I was doing it a gent came to the door asking if the Corrado was for sale. His son is working on a big building contract down the road and asked dad to make enquiries on his behalf. Told him I wasnt selling just yet, but gave a good plug for the forum.

20 miles from Stirling, here in Linlithgow we have two garages I go to. 1 - Tarduff motors - small family run business - generally very good with all makes. 2 - Hunters - larger family run business. Have VW technicians from places that closed down, and claim knowledge of VR6. Have been quite a bit with C, but had a couple of issues, mainly due to numpty, unsupervised "technicians". Would probably use again if stuck, though.

Akai GX4000D Reel to Reel tape recorder for sale. (Craigowl's)

Thanks, James. The only piece of hi fi I have from my 1st system of 1970 is a Thorens TD150/II. They got it right 40 years ago and I will be keeping it. I still have many vinyls - including the 1st LP I bought aged 19 - Rolling Stones (1st) in mono! -
Been a fan of analogue tape since 1967, and now have stuff by Studer, Nakamichi and everyone else just about. I bought four of these Akais and some parts on ebay and have mechanically checked them out, replaced belts where necessary and test driven three of them to my satisfaction. They came from 100% sellers, but as you know, that does not always mean AOK! Anyway, I have picked two to keep for myself, sold one for £277 a couple of weeks ago, and now have one left. 10% discount for CF members with over 100 posts! I am not making a profit on these - I merely spent money to see what was going on after 17 years since my last deck wore out. Just hoping to recover what they cost me. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250776506187&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

My ABS light stays on when I start car for first time. If I drive somewhere, or stop engine and restart for 2nd time light goes off as normal. Replaced sensors a few months ago in attempt to correct, but after a while of being OK fault has reappeared. Can live with this, obviously, and car passed MOT like this, but wondered if anyone had answer to problem.

ABC 1kg Power Fire Extinguisher £6.99 at LIDL
craigowl replied to science's topic in Suppliers Forum
Yes - I've had one before. Will get down to Boness for one when it stops flippin' snowing. -
Corrado light switches can be very ropey components. On this forum, shorting has been known to set cars on fire such that they were totally burnt out and destroyed. A fix using an extra fuse is described here on the forum. Consequently, though I am no electrician, I would not think it wise to use a lead off the switch.

Thanks for that, young man. :salute:

"I'm freezing my ass off out here this week while he works on another "project" - just an excuse for faffing about in the garage away from the missus, if you ask me!"

Brrr!....cough.....cough...must get a room tonight.

If you have watched motor car evolution over the past 40 years you will have noticed a long time ago that new models tend to be bigger, more sophisticated and more ££££ than their predecessors carrying the same name.

Oh, yeah? - We believe you. You wouldnt be one of those bikers who always passes me at about 120 - when I'm doing 60-70 on the Crianlarich to Glencoe stretch of the A82? :cuckoo:  When I was 20 I made the mistake of accepting a lift to the office from a Manxman. "Not too fast" - I said - "never been on a motor bike before". Sh!!t - we were at work before he got out of 3rd gear! - No crash helmets then either - not that they would have made a blind bit of difference. :gag:

I agree with kev Further, do you want to be viewed as a disappointed, ripped off poser with a self-esteem problem? or do you prefer to keep a low profile and know that your car, though not flaunting its "Storm" identity, is just what you and a few others know it is? Sorry, when you are old like me you will understand.

MIne sits on top of the dvd rack above this PC. It will remain there until I put the car up for sale. Some of you may remember a badge going for about £120 on ebay - very attractive, easily lifted items for thiefs. A few years ago, I spent hours experimenting at moulding copies, but any that I stuck on the car did not look good from close up, though from a distance they were OK. Easy to mould them, but a pig to paint for a non-artist like me! Anyone that cracks this job could make a small fortune, I reckon.

Cheeky plug - and almost on topic :norty: My immaculate parcel shelf from 205 we had from new is on ebay. 20% discount to CF member, so £20 for shelf. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :MESELX:IT

You may think you've had it bad up there Iain but I'm afraid it just isn't so! I travelled up to spend Christmas/New Year with friends in Leven and I can only tell you that it was easy to tell where the England/Scotland border was. Let's just say one side of Berwick was gritted and the other side hadn't been touched. As for the M8, there had certainly been craters but by the time I drove down it on the 5th Jan they'd all been fixed. Down here in Bournemouth there are still some monster potholes which have been untouched since before Christmas. You've never had it so good mate :D You came up to Leven and never dropped in on us with an expensive Christmas prezzy? In fact no even a cheapo prezzy!!!
-
Reminds me of a Fiesta at the front.
-
The roads are in such bad condition after unprecedented wintry weather up here that the AA girl on BBC Radio Scotland has started to report the worst craters individually on the M9 and M8!
-
Sorry to hear that, chum. Glad YOU are OK, though.

Seems as common as it was in November 1968 when it happened to us in Aviemore for the first time ever. I have always thought that auto designers should have paid attention to, albeit humdrum, stuff like this instead of all those fancy gimmicks we can do without. FFS - look at the difference and great leaps in technology that have been made to the cars we drive since we had our crap British Leyland 1100 (new in 1966). 42 years on, rain sensors, windscreen and mirror heaters, etc. etc. - they should get the finger out! Winter driving is enough of a hassle, particularly when you have to drive every day to earn a crust - without headaches of this kind! :bad-words: :bad-words:

Looks like the 28 cm (undrifted) snow depth on the lawn this morning may be one of the deepest falls of my lifetime - and it's in November - very freaky! Cold air from the Arctic or northern continental Europe: 1 - makes its way across North Sea 2 - picks up loads of moisture and is heated from below by water of 7C 3 - result - pronounced convective instability - cumulonimbus clouds - frequent heavy snow and hail showers - even thunder and lightning from some of them yesterday in Fife, Dundee and Newcastle. Next? - Snow showers getting less frequent here after tonight as pressure rises. Long clear nights, little wind, severe frosts, possibly minus 20C at least in some places. Alpine conditions to be enjoyed - if you like that sort of thing. No sign of relief by mild, wet, Atlantic airstreams getting to UK for next 8-10 days at least. About an hour agp, Altnaharra was reporting heavy snow and a temperature of minus 9C. Apart from once seeing - decades ago - a heavy snow shower reported at Aberdeen (Dyce) Airport when the temperature was minus 15C, I do not recall seeing reports of falling snow in the UK with such low air temperatures. Most of our stuff falls at around, or just above zero C, I would say, hence it is mostly just messy and wet. Not this winter or last winter, it would appear!

In theory, there is no excuse for crashing in snow. Driving a car is a technical procedure carried out by humans deemed fit for driving a vehicle. Trouble is we are only deemed fit to drive after carrying out a brief test in, mostly, reasonably good weather conditions. I have been lucky enough to avoid crashing as a result of snow or ice, but mostly this is due to driving with great caution and vigilance. So-called macho men would probably say I drive like a "pussy". So be it - I dont want to get hurt, hurt anyone else or hurta da car, OK?!
