Dr F said - Is that parking sensors you have on there mate? :( - Yep - had them fitted some years ago. Got to admit, rearward vis in the C for parking is very poor. Knocked over a wooden fence post in a car park, then decided to have 'em fitted. Now I just hurtle backwards until the bleeping becomes a prolonged note :cuckoo: !

Tons of solid matter go up into the air from the earth every minute of every day. What goes up does mostly come down, though. david is so right about the pollen. It is extremely light, and with convection currents it readily soars up into the clouds on a sunny day. The pic is of oil seed rape pollen which came down in a shower here a few years ago. There are several acres of it around here, but the fields are some distance away. Descending air in the evening, or in association with showers or thunderstorms brings a vast amount of stuff (much of it bad) back to earth. Years ago a huge thundercloud over the London area which had been hoovering up all the muck from below let it all go in the evening with the heavy rain. Many, many people - usually asthma or bronchial cases - were admitted as emergency cases to hospitals. Mostly due to mankind (and leaving out volcanoes!) The air is far from clean - even though you can see through it and never usually think about what it may contain. Not trying to be alarmist - I think it is something we should all be aware of. We live a few miles away from a huge petrochemical complex which once had a release of bromine gas into the atmosphere. The halogen bromine is heavier than air and due to the prevailing northeasterly breeze and a night time temperature inversion it rolled through the Forth Clyde valley to the east of Glasgow where several people with asthmatic/respiratory problems had to be admitted to hospital. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sneachda/4 ... 109145692/ So many young people seem to have allergies and asthmatic conditions compared with when i was a boy - even though the Clean Air Act of 1956 IIRC had not come into force. The whole subject is both fascinating and concerning. As usual Wikipedia seems to have reams of stuff available. Choose with the usual caution, though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_pollution

 Couldn't hose off mine.

You have to believe it is a problem if you dont want to take chances with your cars paintwork and glass. Fallout and pollution is always worse than the man in the street realises. Drop a spot of dye in a pond and eventually the whole pond will be discoloured due to the molecular movement within the water. After the Chernobyl explosion we were told the UK was in no danger as the plume was going eastwards. Later it doubled back and the rainfall brought down radioactive stuff like caesium and strontium 90 which is still in our heathland in NW ENgland, Wales and SW Scotland. Lambs are still unfit for human consumption if raised in that area and are still being monitored. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/dec/2 ... restricted The dust on my car a few days ago exhibited the sparkle to be found from crystalline silica. At least clean you wipers and glass before using them. The abrasions can be permanent. A website describes what you have to do in areas where serious ash fallout occurs. You would not believe what is damaged and has to be binned or cleaned by specialists wearing masks, etc. A bit of a novelty here, but don't underestimate it. Northerly winds expected to reach UK again first couple of days of May. Hopefully volcano will be quiet this time or we could see the same upheaval.

craigowl replied to Mawrick's topic in Drivetrain
IIRC I vowed I would not deal with that company again , but the one guy (agent?) who did help me was good. Customer care? - Never heard of it chum! -
Anyone got a picture of how the rubber around aux water pump
craigowl replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
Here are pix I took just now. Starter, etc very difficult to get your nose or camera in there! If you are more specific perhaps can get a pic. -
Maybe others can confirm, but if engine/oil is seriously overheating, you would smell it if you have been around cars for a while. No? Perhaps you/someone could check temperature of engine and oil with one of those infra red sensors? Original in car could be innacurate - possibly experts can comment on these views? kev's oil probably gets warmer than lukewarm. e.g. (Sorry that should have read.....gets hot enough to incinerate a chip butty to ash in a millisecond.)

Hi, joey. Never got over sharing a room with two scousers when I started work at 19! It was 1964 and Merseyside was the centre of the creative universe! :help:  Bought the Mrs a Stephen Gerrard calendar last year - this year our daughter gave her a Torres one. Love that man Rafa, too, what style, so there! Yes, have heard of resonance in things like exhausts. I havent run mine except home from the garage - hope I dont find the same. Best of luck in solving your niggles - I am sure someone on here will have experience of the buzzing exhaust.
-
Ach, I hope it's just 'cos you are being overfussy, Joey. Strange that, though, as you seem to be from Liverpool. :)

Vr6's come with an oil cooler standard mate its just a very small one on the front of block Temps seem high mate whats it like when your not thrashing it though ?? Ooops, sorry! - my ignorance on that point. Jon. I was thinking of one of those add ons that some have and have discussed on here. Probably need bigger oil cooler with supercharged, etc versions?
-
I dont have oil cooler in (standard) VR6. My oil temps are 80-100C normally. Dont thrash it, but have been in heavy traffic in hot weather, etc. From previous discussions your temp. sounds high, but not excessively so. Why the oil cooler anyway? :confused4:

Fitted today. £47 incl VAT. Pretty good, I thought, when you think of the trouble it must be to remove 15-year old original bits. Rather them than me! Started up warily - no loud noise - came home - highish revs at times with window open - no loud noise - not much different to original - pleased with that! Nice low frequency burble heard when standing at rear with engine idling. Hopefully can pass in MOT in May now.

Had a Golf Mk2 Gti that was in a bad way after having lots of suspension components renewed - one of the front tyres had become bald in several weeks it was so bad. I went to a local VAG dealer who had just got the most up to date computerised alignment equipment (this was a few years back). They even showed me the thing in the workshop and explained the printout. What a transformation - the car became brilliant to drive. Did cost a bit, though, ( > £100 about 9 years ago) but I always reckoned it was worth having a VAG done by people who know about VAG, in that case.

They think it's just another of their geeky and embarassing dad's interests.

Sure - glad it may help you. :D -
Really, I am of course, far too old to be sporting such a gleaming end.

Photos of Jetex 3-silencer exhaust received yesterday. Car booked in for fitting tomorrow. Also got call from Reuben of Tuning Werkes (Croydon) to ask if exhaust arrived ok - "which was nice."

All I know is that the first set that came to me did not fit right and my garage man described why. I sent his diagram and his comments to the supplier's expert (him who said "Not another f***in' Corrado?!" - He was actually very helpful and a really funny guy) and the correct set came. I will try and dig out paperwork. -
Don't worry about it, joey - those diagrams are like "spot the difference" took me a while to see what was going on.
-
Three box - dont want it to be farty loud like what those young pests drive about with in our High Street. Maggot willies!! I call those drivers in my best Victor Meldrew style.

Jetex exhaust ordered on Thursday from Tuning Werkes (Croydon) arrived today (Monday). Prompt, or what? Booked in for fitting at local garage on Wednesday.
-
From experience on here you should not need the CAT replaced unless you are very unlucky or being duped by whoever tells you it needs replaced. Try not to think of it - they are expensive! I am getting Jetex from Tuning Werkes for £15 less than your ebay link to demontweeks, but what do I know - I am old and deluded.
-
I think this will be exchange. When I spoke to a VAG parts man about the prices last week I asked same question about huge price of the smaller rear calipers. He said he and colleagues were puzzled, too - "some of pricing by VAG has no rhyme or reason! :confused4: :cuckoo:
-
They were 15 years old. By one of our garages in the town - Hunters of Linlithgow. For info: To nearest £, (VAT included) - Bill came to: Fronts (2) - £95 Rears (2) - £142 Labour 3 hours - £134 Brake fluid service - £25 Total - £395. Ah well, when I am finished, I will have spent about £1600 in a few months. Fuel pump/big service plugs oil etc/discs/rear bearings/calipers/exhaust. Corrados, eh? Looking forward to worry-free spring and summer motoring in the Highlands
