I got mine for VR6 about a couple of years ago from Revolution in Gateshead. Price was best I could see at that time. Waiting time was about 8 weeks as they were not on the shelf.
  3. biggerbigneil said You sound young biggerbigneil! Remember, you will not have to work Saturdays and Sundays all your working life! You have to view things in the long-term. Endeavour and sacrifice are all part of life for those who want to have a fruitful career so that they can spend their money and leisure time in a way that is rewarding to them. Of course, there is nothing worse than having to work in a job you loathe for one or more reasons, but persistence and loyalty do count for a lot to employers. I have no experience of working in the motor industry and my grown up children work as BP chemist, newspaper editor and in banking. They all moan about things at work just as we their parents did! There are very few cushy numbers today in the working environment, be grateful you have been offered an interview with a big company and give it your best shot. Good luck. :2gunfire:
  4. Neil g60 said Bought this a few months ago - token support for Ossie, a shambling wreck, but a good man at heart, I am certain. As for Heavy Metal, they and Deep Purple got there first and had top 20 singles when Alan Freeman hosted the top 40 on Radio 1 about 1969. I think I still have a bit of that program on reeltoreel tape. You young guys dont do what I have done, ie lost/scrubbed old recordings on tape or whatever medium you are now using. You always regret it later! I still enjoy listening to live performances I have recorded from about 1976 onwards. Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll!
  5. Its the solvents in the paint which are inflammable. Once they have evaporated, the paint should not burst into flames! Hot oil in the sump will further bake off any solvent. I have painted sumps often with Hammerite.
  6. Scope there kev for a comment about how likeable the Englishman (or Scot, etc, etc.) is in other countries. However, most of us know you are damned fine and could have plenty of friends outwith East Anglia :salute:
  7. kevhaywire said That narrows it down a bit. Somewhere rural in England?
  8. 16vg60 At over £300, I should hope so, actually!
  9. Has got extras but looks tastefully minimalist. Very beautiful car. Neat buildings, tarmac and concrete, too! 8)
  10. MIke Edwards said Low humidity today, but atmospheric pressure not high - close to normal at around 1012mb. Can be 1040-1050mb very occasionally. You can get better!

Thanks for taking time to answer that, Dennis. Series, starring John Lithgow, is actually quite good, I think. The references to Canadians have only been 2 or 3 times in maybe 20 programs. Perhaps the writers have a "thing" about Canadians. I noticed the comments because I have never heard them before in any American movies, sitcoms, etc. Any nation that gives us Joni, The Band and Neil Young cannot be too bad, anyway. Best regards, Iain
  12. fla said Fla - A guy who thinks like me. I actually stuck a black vinyl/rubber strip on the sills of my Peugeot about 13 years ago. Most of it is still on. I got the stuff from Halfords. Typically for some items in that store, it was the only roll they had and looked like it had been on the shelf for years.

Like me, many will appreciate your inputs, Insane_VR6. 8) Off topic this, but why do the yanks make fun of the Canadians, for example, on "3rd Rock from the sun"? I have something in mind, but would rather hear from a Canadian.
  14. I have only seen about 3 since I got mine 3 years ago. I need to get out more.
  15. IMHO, this is one of the best threads since I have been a member here. The value of this forum is being well demonstrated. The marketplace is a jungle for the consumer. As I have said before "too much information", today. Can be as bad as too little. You can never eliminate bias and prejudice, whether it is based on true experience or not - that is the nature of the beast that is the human being. However, informed opinion from all sides helps us make our own decisions about what product we will go for, or what is a reasonably wise line of action to take. Big thanks to all you guys who chip in with your hard-won knowledge, I am sure I speak for many when I say it is well appreciated. PS - MOT in May - C 10 years old. Prepared to hear bad news about requirement for exhaust/catalyst, hence interest here!
  16. I suppose it is possible the gent who owned my C from new for seven years had connections with junkies. He was a teacher in a public school after all. :norty:

Believe part no. is T10029. I havent tried to order yet, though.
  18. They are everywhere. About four years ago in a highland glen with single track road, having heard a car stop, I came up from the river on foot to see a scabby black Celica with about five baseball-hatted twerps eyeballing my car. Needless to say, they then sped away. The glen is frequented by Munro-baggers who leave plenty of expensive cars parked all over the place. The police say that visitors' cars offer rich pickings for the low life who come up in a couple of hours or so from the nearest city of a Saturday.
  19. Agree with theRuler. Thinners is best for most things like that but you have to avoid getting it on stuff like plastics and vulnerable paints which can be softened by it.
  20. Three more pics of A series from contemporary brochures. Boring looking saloon in the background of first pic is undoubtedly the Opel Ascona. This was a saloon version of the Manta, very understated looks, but many successes for years in competition.
  21. Pic from 1975 brochure. Did not buy one. Couldnt afford it and anyway, the doors did not clunk as well as the A series ones - ie it had become tinnier. I have road tests for Manta in 1972-ish "Car" (comparison with 1st Toyota Celica) and "Motor". No alloy wheels with the Manta, even in 1975/6, whatever the spec. The wheels shown are steel with 4 sections painted black. When I got new 1978 Cavalier GL, it had same wheels as shown on Manta Berlinetta but no black paint - I painted the appropriate bits and had slightly different look to others. Vauxhall came up trumps getting in with Opel thro' General Motors. Cars previous to Cavalier were absolute dogs and rustbuckets such as Viva, Chevette, etc. Things were getting better as far as corrosion protection went, but my new 1972 Manta still had no bitumen underseal and handfulls of mud could be dug out from behind the headlights via the wheelarch. I made my own wheelarch inserts for the Manta and the following 3 cars I had before they became a standard item due to consumer pressure and competition from, initially I think, the Swedes.
  22. Riley - I had only had three bicycles when I was 25! Pic of Manta for you. From brochure circa 1973.
